When thevehicle speedexceeds 15km/h (10MPH) ,
the light willblink andthechime willsound unless the
front seatbeltissecurely fastened. Thechime will
continue tosound forabout 95seconds untiltheseat

Supplemental RestraintSystem(SRS)
air bag warning light

When theignition switchisin the ªONº position, the
Supplemental RestraintSystem(SRS)airbag warning
light illuminates forabout 7seconds andthen turns off.
This indicates theSRS airbag system isoperational.
If any ofthe following conditions occur,theSRS air
bag system and/orpre-tensioner seatbeltneed
servicing. Havethesystem checked, andifnecessary
repaired, byaNISSAN dealerpromptly .
. TheSRS airbag warning lightremains illuminated
after about 7seconds.
. The SRS airbag warning lightflashes intermit-
tently . .
The SRS airbag warning lightdoes notcome on
at all.
Unless checked andrepaired, theSRS airbag system
and/or pre-tensioner seatbeltmay notfunction
properly .(See ªSupplemental RestraintSystem
(SRS)º (P.1-27) .)
V ehicle Dynamic Control(VDC)warn-
ing light (except forEurope)/Electronic Sta-
bility Program (ESP)warning light(for

When theignition switchisin the ªONº position, the
V ehicle Dynamic Control(VDC)/Electronic Stability
Program (ESP)warning lightilluminates andthen turns
off.
The warning lightblinks whentheVDC/ESP systemis
operating.
When thewarning lightblinks whiledriving, thedriving
condition isslippery andthevehicle's tractionlimitis
about tobe exceeded.
If the VDC/ESP warninglightilluminates whilethe
engine isrunning orwhile driving, itmay indicate that
the VDC/ESP systemisnot functioning properlyand
may need servicing. Havethesystem checked, andif
necessary repaired,byaNISSAN dealerpromptly .If a
malfunction occurs,theVDC/ESP functionisturned
off, but thevehicle isstill drivable. (SeeªVehicle

is not amalfunction. Restarttheengine after

. Ifwheels ortires other thantheNISSAN
recommended onesareused, theVDC/ESP
system maynotoperate properly andthe
VDC/ESP warninglight
may illuminate.
. The VDC/ESP systemisnot asubstitute for
winter tiresortire chains onasnow covered
road.
The Vehicle Dynamic Control(VDC)/Electronic Stabi-
lity Program (ESP)system usesvarious sensors to
monitor driverinputs andvehicle motion. Undercertain
driving conditions, theVDC/ESP systemhelpsto
perform thefollowing functions.
. Controls brakepressure toreduce wheelslipon
one slipping drivewheel sopower istransferred to
a non slipping drivewheel onthe same axle.
. Controls brakepressure andengine outputto
reduce drivewheel slipbased onvehicle speed
(traction controlfunction) .
. Controls brakepressure atindividual wheelsand
engine outputtohelp thedriver maintain controlof
the vehicle inthe following conditions:
Ð understeer (vehicletendstonot follow the
steered pathdespite increased steeringinput)
Ð oversteer (vehicletendstospin duetocertain
road ordriving conditions) .
The VDC/ESP systemcanhelp thedriver tomaintain
control ofthe vehicle, butitcannot prevent lossof
vehicle control inall driving situations. When
theVDC/ESP systemoperates, theVDC/ESP
warning light
in the meter flashes sonote the
following:
. The road maybeslippery orthe system may
determine someaction isrequired tohelp the
vehicle onthe steered path.
. You may feelapulsation inthe brake pedal and
hear anoise orvibration fromunder thehood. This
is normal andindicates thattheVDC/ESP system
is working properly.
. Adjust yourspeed anddriving tothe road
conditions.
If a malfunction occursinthe system, theVDC/ESP
warning light
illuminates inthe meter. TheVDC/
ESP system automatically turnsoff.
The VDC/ESP OFFswitch isused toturn offthe VDC/
ESP system. TheVDC/ESP offindicator light
illuminates toindicate theVDC/ESP systemisoff.
When theVDC/ESP OFFswitch isused toturn offthe
system, theVDC/ESP systemstilloperates toprevent
one drive wheel fromslipping bytransferring powerto
a non slipping drivewheel. TheVDC/ESP warninglight
flashes ifthis occurs. Allother VDC/ESP
functions areoffand theVDC/ESP warninglight
will not flash. TheVDC/ESP systemisauto-
matically resettoon when theignition switchisplaced
in the ªOFFº position thenback tothe ªONº position.

The computer hasabuilt-in diagnostic featurethat
tests thesystem eachtimeyoustart theengine and
move thevehicle forward orinreverse ataslow speed.
When theself-test occurs,youmay hear aªclunkº noise
and/or feelapulsation inthe brake pedal. Thisis
normal andisnot anindication ofamalfunction.

The vehicle shouldbedriven withtheVehicle Dynamic
Control (VDC)/Electronic StabilityProgram (ESP)
system ONformost driving conditions.
When thevehicle isstuck inmud orsnow ,the VDC/
ESP system reduces theengine outputtoreduce
wheel spin.Theengine speedwillbereduced evenif
the accelerator isdepressed tothe floor. Ifmaximum
engine powerisneeded tofree astuck vehicle, turn
the VDC/ESP systemoff.
T o turn offthe VDC/ESP system,pushtheVDC/ESP
OFF switch. TheVDC/ESP offindicator light
will
illuminate.
Push theVDC/ESP OFFswitch againorrestart the
engine toturn ONthesystem.

from therack andkeep andlock them inside the

. Whatever thecondition, drivewithcaution.
Accelerate anddecelerate withgreat care.If
accelerating ordecelerating toofast, the
drive wheels willlose even more traction.
. Allow morestopping distanceincold weath-
er driving. Braking shouldbestarted sooner
than ondry pavement.
. Keep atagreater distance fromthevehicle
in front ofyou onslippery roads.
. Wet ice(08C ,328F andfreezing rain),very
cold snow andicecan beslick andvery
difficult todrive on.The vehicle willhave a
lot less traction orgrip under thesecondi-
tions. Try to avoid driving onwet iceuntil the
road issalted orsanded.
. Watch forslippery spots(glaring ice).These
may appear onanotherwise clearroadin
shaded areas.Ifapatch ofice isseen ahead,
brake before reaching it.Try not tobrake
while actually onthe ice, and avoid any
sudden steering maneuvers.
. Donot use cruise control onslippery roads.
. Snow cantrap dangerous exhaustgasunder
your vehicle. Keepsnow clearofthe exhaust
pipe andfrom around yourvehicle.

If the battery isnot fully charged duringextremely cold
weather conditions, thebattery fluidmayfreeze and
damage thebattery .To maintain maximum efficiency,

1. Ifyou have snow tiresinstalled onthe front/rear
wheels ofyour vehicle, theyshould beofthe same
size, loading range,construction andtype (bias,
bias-belted orradial) asthe rear/front tires.
2. Ifthe vehicle isto be operated insevere winter
conditions, snowtiresshould beinstalled onall
four wheels.
3. Foradditional tractiononicy roads, studded tires
may beused. However, somecountries, provinces
and states prohibit theiruse.Check local,state
and provincial lawsbefore installing studdedtires.
Skid andtraction capabilities ofstudded
snow tires,onwet ordry surfaces, maybe
poorer thanthatofnon-studded snowtires.
4. Snow chains maybeused ifdesired. Makesure
they arethe proper sizeforthe tires onyour
vehicle andareinstalled according tothe chain
manufacturer's instructions.Usechain tensioners
when recommended bythe tire chain manufac-
turer toensure atight fit.Loose endlinks ofthe tire
chains mustbesecured orremoved toprevent the

TEMPERA TUREA,B AND C

The temperature gradesareA(the highest) ,B, and C,
representing thetire's resistance tothe generation of

and excessive temperature canlead tosudden tire
failure. Thegrade Ccorresponds toalevel of
performance whichallpassenger cartires must meet
under thelocal regulations. GradesBand Arepresent
higher levelsofperformance onthe laboratory test
wheel thantheminimum requiredbylaw .
WARNING:
The temperature gradeforthis tireisestab-
lished foratire that isproperly inflatedandnot
overloaded. Excessivespeed,under-inflation, or
excessive loading,eitherseparately orincom-
bination, cancause heatbuild-up andpossible
tire failure.
