The seatback shouldnotbeinareclined
position anymore thanneeded forcomfort. Seat
belts aremost effective whenthepassenger sits
well back andstraight upinthe seat.
1. Adjust theseat. (SeeªSeatsº (P.1-2) .)
2. Slowly pulltheseat beltoutofthe retractor and
insert thetongue intothebuckle untilyouhear and
feel thelatch engage.

The retractor isdesigned tolock during a
sudden stoporon impact. Aslow pulling
motion permits theseat belttomove, and
allows yousome freedom ofmovement in
the seat.

If the seat beltcannot bepulled fromits
fully retracted position,firmlypullthebelt
and release it.Then smoothly pullthebelt
out ofthe
retractor.

of the shoulder. Itmust notrest against the
neck.
. Besure thattheseat beltisnot twisted in
any way.
. Be sure thattheshoulder beltanchor is
secured bytrying tomove theshoulder belt
anchor upand down afteradjustment.
The shoulder beltanchor heightshould beadjusted to

not falling offyour shoulder.

T o increase yourconfidence inthe seat belts, check
the operation bygrasping theshoulder beltandpulling
forward quickly.The retractor shouldlockandrestrict
further beltmovement. Ifthe retractor doesnotlock
during thischeck, contact aNISSAN dealerimmedi-
ately .

Periodically checkthattheseat beltandallthe metal
components, suchasbuckles, tongues, retractors,
flexible wiresandanchors, workproperly .If loose parts,
deterioration, cutsorother damage onthe seat belt
webbing isfound, theentire seatbeltassembly should
be replaced.
If dirt builds upinthe shoulder beltguide ofthe seat
belt anchors, theseat belts mayretract slowly.Wipe
the shoulder beltguide withaclean, drycloth.
T o clean theseat beltwebbing, applyamild soap
solution orany solution recommended forcleaning
upholstery orcarpet. Thenwipewithacloth andallow
the seat belts todry inthe shade. Donot allow theseat
belts toretract untilthey arecompletely dry.

3. While holding theback doorinposition, pressand
hold theback doorswitch
