Quality Grades: Allpassenger cartires must conform
to local safety requirements inaddition tothese
grades.
Quality gradescanbefound where applicable onthe
tire sidewall between treadshoulder andmaximum
section width.Forexample:
T readwear 200Traction AA Temperature A
TREADWEAR
GUID-0571F FF5-1F89-4F2D-8C54-B33C79A693 D9
The treadwear gradeisacomparative ratingbased on
the wear rateofthe tire when tested undercontrolled
conditions onaspecified government testcourse. For
example, atire graded 150would wearoneand one-
half (11/2) times aswell onthe government courseas
a tire graded 100.Therelative performance oftires
depends upontheactual conditions oftheir use,
however, andmay depart significantly fromthenorm
due tovariations indriving habits,service practices
and differences inroad characteristics andclimate.
TRACTION AA,A ,B AND C
GUID-538BC6 4D-3FD2-4494-8890-5 9A412EBD485
The traction grades,fromhighest tolowest, areAA,A ,
B, and C.Those grades represent thetire's ability to
stop onwet pavement asmeasured undercontrolled
conditions onspecified government testsurfaces of
asphalt andconcrete. Atire marked Cmay have poor
traction performance.
WARNING:
The traction gradeassigned tothis tireisbased
on straight-ahead brakingtraction tests,and
does notinclude acceleration, cornering,hydro-
planing, orpeak traction characteristic s.
TEMPERA TUREA,B AND C
GUID-F9 830A06-691 1-457A-B0D 7-F963C50D95EC
The temperature gradesareA(the highest) ,B, and C,
representing thetire's resistance tothe generation of
heat anditsability todissipate heatwhen tested under
controlled conditions onaspecified indoorlaboratory
test wheel. Sustained hightemperature cancause the
material ofthe tire todegenerate andreduce tirelife,
and excessive temperature canlead tosudden tire
failure. Thegrade Ccorresponds toalevel of
performance whichallpassenger cartires must meet
under thelocal regulations. GradesBand Arepresent
higher levelsofperformance onthe laboratory test
wheel thantheminimum requiredbylaw .
WARNING:
The temperature gradeforthis tireisestab-
lished foratire that isproperly inflatedandnot
overloaded. Excessivespeed,under-inflation, or
excessive loading,eitherseparately orincom-
bination, cancause heatbuild-up andpossible
tire failure.
