AIR BAGS
The air bags havebeen designed to maximise the safety of the occupants in the event of serious collisions. They work in conjunction with the force-limiting seat belts. The electronicdetectors register and analyse any abrupt deceleration of the vehicle: if the triggering threshold is reached, the air bags inflate instantly and pro-tect the occupants of the vehicle.
Immediately after the impact, the air bags deflate rapidly so that they do not hinder the visibility of the occu-pants nor their exit if necessary from the vehicle.
The air bags are not deployed in the case of collisions which are not seri-ous, for which the seat belt is suf-ficient to ensure maximum protec-tion. The seriousness of a collision depends on the nature of the obsta-cle and the speed of the vehicle at the moment of the collision.
Air bags only operate when the ignition is switched on.
Note: the gas escaping from the air bags can be a minor irritant.
FRONT AIR BAGS
These are folded in the centre of the steering wheel for the driver and in the fascia for the front passenger. They are deployed simultaneously, except in cases where the passenger air bag is disarmed.
Front air bag fault
If this warning light comes on, accompanied by an audi-ble signal and a message on the multifunction display, contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have the system checked.
Disarming the passenger air bag*
To ensure the safety of your child, it is essential to disarm the pas-senger air bag when you install a "rear-facing" child seat on the front passenger seat. Otherwise, the child would risk being seri-ously injured or killed if the air bag were to inflate.
With the ignition switched off, insert the key into the passen-ger air bag disarming switch 1,turn it to the "OFF" position, then remove the key keeping the slot in this position.
* According to country.

In the "OFF" position, the passen-ger air bag will not be triggered in the event of an impact.
As soon as the child seat is removed, turn the air bag slot to the "ON" posi-tion to re-activate the air bag and thus ensure the safety of your pas-senger in the event of an impact.
With the ignition on (2nd notch), illumination of this warning light accompanied by a message on the multi-function display, indicates that the passenger air bag is dis-armed (switch in the "OFF" position). The warning light on the instrument panel remains on until the passenger air bag is reactivated.
In the event of permanent lighting of the two air bag warning lights, do not install a rear-facing child seat. Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
Steering column air bag*
The steering column air bag is incor-porated in the fascia below the steer-ing column.
It protects the driver's lower limbs.
It is deployed at the same time as the front air bags.
SIDE AIR BAGS AND
CURTAIN AIR BAGS*
The side air bags are incorporated into the front seat backs on the door side.
The curtain air bags are incorporated in the headlining.
They are deployed independently of each other depending on which side the collision occurs.
This indicator light comes on, accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display to indi-cate the malfunction of at least one of these air bags.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have the system checked.

For the front, steering col-umn, side and curtain air bags to be fully effective, observe the following safety rules:
• Wear a correctly adjusted seat belt.• Sit in a normal upright position.• Do not leave anything between the occupants and the air bags (a child, pet, object...). This could hamper the operation of the air bags or injure the occupants.• All work on the air bag system is strictly forbidden unless it is carried out by qualified personnel of the PEUGEOT network.• After an accident or if the vehicle has been stolen or broken into, have the air bag systems checked.
Front air bags
• Do not drive holding the steering wheel by its spokes or resting your hands on the centre part of the wheel.• Passengers must not place their feet on the fascia.• Smoke as little as possible; deploy-ment of the air bags can cause burns or the risk of injury from a cigarette or pipe.• Never remove or pierce the steer-ing wheel or hit it violently.
Side air bags
• Only put approved covers on the seats. Contact your PEUGEOT dealer.• Do not fix or glue anything to the seat backs. This could cause injury to the chest or arms when the side air bag inflates.• Do not sit with the upper part of the body any nearer to the door than necessary.
* According to version and country.
Steering column air bag*
• Do not sit with your knees any nearer to the steering wheel than necessary.
Curtain air bags*
• Do not fix or glue anything to the roof. This could cause injury to the head when the curtain air bag inflates.• Do not remove the grab handles installed on the roof, they play a part in securing the curtain air bags.

When the vehicle is being driven, illumination of this warning light and of the STOPwarning light, accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display, indicates that the handbrake is still on or has not been properly released.
When parking on a slope, direct your wheels towards the pavement and pull the handbrake.
"2 TRONIC" GEARBOX
The five-speed controlled manual gearbox offers a choice between the comfort of automatic regulation or the pleasure of manual gear changing.
This gearbox enables you to access two driving modes:
- an automated mode for automatic control of the gears by the gearbox and therefore without any action on the part of the driver,- a sequential mode for manual changing of the gears by the driver using the steering wheel controls or the gear lever.
It consists of the following controls:- a gear lever 1 on the centre con-sole for selecting the driving mode, reverse gear and neutral or for changing gear in sequential mode,- a "-" steering wheel control 2 for sequential downward gear changes,- a "+" steering wheel control 3 for sequential upward gear changes.

Stopping - Starting on a slope
The "2 Tronic" gearbox is a control-led manual gearbox which does not have a clutch pedal.
Do not use the accelerator pedal to immobilise the vehicle on a slope, apply the handbrake instead.
When starting on a slope, accelerate gradually while releasing the hand-brake.
Moving off
Select position N.
Switching to sequential mode
Once you have moved off, you can switch to sequential mode by select-ing position M.
"AUTO" disappears and the gears engaged appear in succession on the instrument panel display.
The gear change requests are only carried out if the engine speed per-mits it.
Take your foot off the accelerator pedal gently to engage the gear.
At low speeds, when approaching a stop or traffic lights for example, the gearbox changes down to first gear automatically.
Press the brake pedal firmly while starting the engine.
Start the engine.
"N" appears on the instrument panel display.
Select first gear (position M or A) or reverse (position R).
Release the handbrake.
Release the brake pedal then accel-erate.
"AUTO" and "1" or "R" ororappear on the instrument panel display.
It is possible to start in 2nd gear using the gear lever, in sequential mode only.

Switching to automated mode
Automated mode
After using the sequential mode, you can return to the automated mode by selecting position A.
"AUTO" and the gear engaged appear on the instrument panel dis-play.
The gearbox then operates in auto-active mode, without any action on the part of the driver.
It continuously selects the gear most suited to the following parameters:
- driving style,- road characteristics,- vehicle load.To optimise driving comfort and obtain the most suitable gear, avoid sharp variations in the pressure on the accelerator pedal.
Reinitialisation
Following disconnection of the bat-tery, the gearbox must be reinitial-ised:
The brake pedal must be pressed while starting the engine.
Never select neutral N while the vehicle is moving.
Only engage reverse gear R with the vehicle immobilised and the brake pedal pressed.
In all cases, it is imperative that you apply the handbrake in order to immobilise the vehicle.
On a steep gradient, it is preferable to switch to sequential mode.
"Auto sequential" mode
In the automated mode, you can resume control temporarily at any time using the steering wheel con-trols.
The use of these controls permits manual selection of the gears in situ-ations which require a faster change-down than that offered in automated mode (arrival at a roundabout, exit from a car park with a steep gradient, overtaking...).
The gearbox engages the gear requested if the engine speed per-mits it. "AUTO" is still displayed on the instrument panel.
After a few moments, the gearbox again controls the gears automati-cally.
Stopping the vehicle
Before switching off the engine, you can:
- move to position N to leave the gearbox in neutral.- leave a gear engaged, such as first or reverse. In both cases, it is imperative that you apply the handbrake to immobi-lise the vehicle.
Operating anomaly
With the ignition on, the flashing of "AUTO" and lighting of the service warning light, accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display, indicate a gear-box malfunction.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer without delay.
If you press the accelera-tor pedal beyond the point of resistance, the gearbox selects the gear below to permit sharper acceleration.
- switch on the ignition, "AUTO" and "-" appear on the instrument panel display,- press the brake pedal,- wait approximately 30 seconds until "N" or a gear appears on the instrument panel display,- release the brake pedal. The gearbox is operational again.

SPEED LIMITER
This speed limiter, of the new gener-ation, has a display on the instrument panel to indicate the programmed speed.
It prevents exceeding of the vehicle speed programmed by the driver. When the programmed speed is reached, pressing the accelerator pedal no longer has any effect.
The limiter operates with a pro-grammed speed of at least 18 mph (30 km/h); it remains active regard-less of any action on the brake and clutch pedals.
The speed limiter is switched onmanually: it requires a programmed speed of at least 18 mph (30 km/h).
The speed limiter is switched off by switched offswitched offmanual operation of the control.
By pressing the accelerator pedal firmly, passing the point of resist-ance, it is possible to exceed the pro-grammed speed temporarily.
To return to the programmed speed, simply slow down to a speed below the programmed speed.
The programmed speed value remains in the memory when the ignition is switched off.
