AIR BAGS
The air bags have been designed to
maximise the safety of the occupants
in the event of serious collisions. They
w o r k i n c o n j u n c t i o n w i t h t h e f o r c e - l i m -
iting seat belts. The electronic detec-
tors register and analyse any abrupt
deceleration of the vehicle in the im-
pact detection zones (see diagram):
i f t h e t r i g g e r i n g t h r e s h o l d i s r e a c h e d ,
t h e a i r b a g s i n l a t e i n s t a n t l y a n d p r o -
tect the occupants of the vehicle. I m m e d i a t e l y a f t e r t h e i m p a c t , t h e a i r
b a g s d e l a t e r a p i d l y s o t h a t t h e y d o
not hinder the visibility of the occu-
pants nor their exit if necessary from
the vehicle.
The air bags are not deployed in the
c a s e o f m i n o r i m p a c t s , r e a r i m p a c t s
or in certain roll-over conditions. The
s e a t b e l t i s s u f i c i e n t t o e n s u r e m a x i
-
mum protection in these situations.
The seriousness of a collision de-
pends on the nature of the obstacle
and the speed of the vehicle at the
moment of the collision.
Air bags only operate when the
ignition is switched on.
Note: the gas escaping from
the air bags can be a minor
irritant.

These are folded in the centre of the
s t e e r i n g w h e e l f o r t h e d r i v e r a n d i n
the fascia for the front passenger.
T h e y a r e d e p l o y e d s i m u l t a n e o u s l y ,
e x c e p t i n c a s e s w h e r e t h e p a s s e n

g e r a i r b a g i s d i s a r m e d , i n t h e e v e n t
of a serious front impact applied in
the impact zone A in the longitudinal
c e n t r e l i n e o f t h e v e h i c l e , o n a h o r i -
zontal plane and from the front of the
v e h i c l e t o w a r d s t h e r e a r . T h e a i r b a g
i n l a t e s b e t w e e n t h e f r o n t o c c u p a n t o f
the vehicle and the fascia to cushion
h i s f o r w a r d m o v e m e n t . T h e a i r b a g s
therefore limit the risk of injury to the
head and chest.

a slight loss of hearing for a short
time.
Even if all of the precautions men-
t i o n e d a r e o b s e r v e d , i n j u r y o r s l i g h t
b u r n s t o t h e h e a d , c h e s t o r a r m s
w h e n t h e a i r b a g i s t r i g g e r e d c a n n o t
b e r u l e d o u t . I n d e e d , t h e b a g i n l a t e s

Seat belt height adjustment:

d i s p l a y . O n c e t h e s e t w o m i n u t e s h a v e

until the driver’s seat belt is fastened.
Front seat belts with
pre-tensioner and force limiter
Safety in the event of front impacts
has been improved by the introduc-
t i o n o f s e a t b e l t s w i t h p r e - t e n s i o n e r
and force limiter for the front seats.
Depending on the seriousness of the
i m p a c t , t h e p r e - t e n s i o n i n g s y s t e m
instantly tightens the seat belts and
pulls them against the bodies of the
occupants. The pre-tensioning seat belts are ac-
t i v e w h e n t h e i g n i t i o n i s o n .
The force limiter eases the pressure
of the seat belt on the body of the oc-
cupant in the event of an accident.
Rear seat belts
T h e r e a r s e a t s a r e i t t e d w i t h t h r e e
three-point inertia reel seat belts.

that the passengers use

that they are all properly re-
strained before setting off.
Wherever you are seated in

Do not invert the seat belt buckles
a s t h e y w i l l n o t f u l i l t h e i r r o l e f u l l y .
I f t h e s e a t s h a v e a r m r e s t s * , t h e l a p

pass under the armrest.
T h e s e a t b e l t s a r e i t t e d w i t h a n i n -
ertia reel permitting automatic ad-
justment of the length of the strap
to your size. The seat belt is stored
a u t o m a t i c a l l y w h e n n o t i n u s e .
B e f o r e a n d a f t e r u s e , e n s u r e t h a t
the seat belt is rolled up correctly.
T h e l o w e r p a r t o f t h e s t r a p m u s t b e
p o s i t i o n e d a s l o w a s p o s s i b l e o n
the pelvis.
The upper part must be positioned
i n t h e h o l l o w o f t h e s h o u l d e r .
T h e i n e r t i a r e e l s a r e i t t e d w i t h a n
a u t o m a t i c l o c k i n g d e v i c e w h i c h
comes into operation in the event of
a c o l l i s i o n , o n e m e r g e n c y b r a k i n g
or if the vehicle rolls over. You can
release the device by pulling rapidly
on the strap and releasing it. I n o r d e r t o b e e f f e c t i v e , a s e a t b e l t :
- must be tightened as close to the
b o d y a s p o s s i b l e ,
- m u s t r e s t r a i n o n e a d u l t o n l y ,
- must not bear any trace of cuts o r f r a y i n g ,
- must be pulled in front of you w i t h a s m o o t h m o v e m e n t ,
c h e c k i n g t h a t i t d o e s n o t t w i s t ,
- must not be transformed or m o d i i e d t o a v o i d a l t e r i n g i t s
performance.
I n a c c o r d a n c e w i t h c u r r e n t s a f e t y
r e g u l a t i o n s , a l l r e p a i r s a n d c h e c k s
must be carried out by a PEUGEOT
d e a l e r w h o g u a r a n t e e s t h a t t h e w o r k
is carried out correctly.
Have your seat belts checked regularly
by a PEUGEOT dealer and particularly
i f t h e s t r a p s s h o w s i g n s o f d a m a g e .
C l e a n t h e s e a t b e l t s t r a p s w i t h s o a p y
w a t e r o r a t e x t i l e c l e a n i n g p r o d u c t ,
sold by PEUGEOT dealers.
After folding or moving a seat or rear
b e n c h s e a t , e n s u r e t h a t t h e s e a t b e l t
is positioned and rolled up correctly. Recommendations for children:
- use a suitable child seat if the
passenger is less than 12 years
old or shorter than one metre

- do not use the strap-guide* w h e n a c h i l d s e a t i s i n s t a l l e d .
- never use the same seat belt to s e c u r e m o r e t h a n o n e p e r s o n ,
- n e v e r a l l o w a c h i l d t o t r a v e l o n your lap.
Depending on the nature and se-
