Operating abnormality
Any operating abnormality is indi-
c a t e d b y a n a u d i b l e s i g n a l , a c c o m -
panied by the message "Automatic
gear fault" on the multi-function
d i s p l a y , b y a "-" a n d l a s h i n g o f t h e
S p o r t a n d S n o w w a r n i n g l i g h t s o n t h e
instrument panel display.
In this situation the gearbox oper-
a t e s i n d o w n g r a d e m o d e ( l o c k e d i n
3rd gear). You may feel a substan-
t i a l k n o c k w h e n c h a n g i n g f r o m P to
R and from N to R ( t h i s w i l l n o t c a u s e
any damage to the gearbox).
D o n o t e x c e e d 6 0 m p h ( 1 0 0 k m / h ) ,
respecting local speed limits.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
I f t h e b a t t e r y i s l a t a n d t h e
lever is in position P , i t w i l l
be impossible to change
to another position.
I n p a r t i c u l a r , d o n o t f o r c e t h e l e v e r
or there is a risk the gearbox may
be damaged. When the vehicle is be-
i n g d r i v e n , i l l u m i n a t i o n o f
t h i s w a r n i n g l i g h t a n d o f t h e
STOP

Applying

SPEED LIMITER
T h i s s p e e d l i m i t e r , o f t h e n e w g e n e r -
a t i o n , h a s a d i s p l a y o n t h e i n s t r u m e n t
panel to indicate the programmed
speed.
It prevents exceeding of the vehicle
speed programmed by the driver.
When the programmed speed is
r e a c h e d , p r e s s i n g t h e a c c e l e r a t o r
pedal no longer has any effect.
T h e l i m i t e r o p e r a t e s w i t h a p r o -
grammed speed of at least 18 mph
a p p r o x . ( 3 0 k m / h ) ; i t r e m a i n s a c t i v e
regardless of any action on the brake
and clutch pedals.
The operating actions must be
carried out:
- when stationary, with the
engine running,
or
- with the vehicle moving. The indicator light on the in-
strument panel comes on at
the same time.
Instrument panel display
When the speed limiter function is
a c t i v e , p r e s s i n g t h i s b u t t o n d i s p l a y s
the distance recorders.
A f t e r a f e w s e c o n d s o r w h e n t h i s b u t
-
t o n i s p r e s s e d a g a i n , t h e d i s p l a y r e -
turns to the speed limiter function.
Selecting the function
F Place the dial 1 in the LIMIT
position. The limiter is not yet
a c t i v e . B y d e f a u l t , t h e d i s p l a y
indicates: Storing a speed
A s p e e d c a n b e s t o r e d w i t h o u t a c t i

vating the limiter.
Press buttons 2 and 3 b r i e l y t o d e -
crease or increase by 1 mph (1 km/h).
An extended press decreases or
increases by 5 mph (5 km/h).
A maintained press decreases or
increases the programmed speed in
steps of 5 mph (5 km/h).
Activating/deactivating the limiter
Pressing button 4 once activates the
l i m i t e r , p r e s s i n g t h e b u t t o n a g a i n d e -
activates it.

CRUISE CONTROL
T h i s c r u i s e c o n t r o l , o f t h e n e w g e n e r -
a t i o n , h a s a d i s p l a y o n t h e i n s t r u m e n t
panel to indicate the memorised ref-
erence speed.
It enables the vehicle to maintain a
steady speed programmed by the
driver.
In order for it to be memorised or ac-
t i v a t e d , t h e v e h i c l e s p e e d m u s t b e
greater than 24 mph approx. (40 km/h)
w i t h a t l e a s t f o u r t h g e a r e n g a g e d f o r
v e h i c l e s i t t e d w i t h a m a n u a l g e a r b o x .
O n v e h i c l e s i t t e d w i t h a n a u t o m a t i c
g e a r b o x , t h e l e v e r m u s t b e i n p o s i t i o n D
at a speed greater than 24 mph approx.

Reactivating the cruise control
After cancellation of the cruise con-
t r o l , press button 4 . Y o u r v e h i c l e w i l l
return to the last memorised speed.

It is also possible to reactivate the
cruise control by pressing button 2 or

Changing the memorised
reference speed
To memorise a speed higher than the
p r e v i o u s o n e , t h e r e a r e t w o o p t i o n s :
Without using the accelerator:
F press button 3 ;
A brief press increases by 1 mph
(1 km/h).
An extended press increases by 5 mph
(5 km/h).
A maintained press increases in
steps of 5 mph (5 km/h).
Using the accelerator:

until the required speed is

In the event of a cruise control mal-
f u n c t i o n , t h e m e m o r i s e d s p e e d i s
e r a s e d , t h e d a s h e s l a s h f o r a f e w
seconds:
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have
the system checked.
When changing the memo-
rised reference speed by
m e a n s o f a m a i n t a i n e d p r e s s ,
pay attention as the speed
can increase or decrease rapidly.
Do not use the cruise control on slip-
p e r y r o a d s o r i n h e a v y t r a f i c .
I n t h e e v e n t o f a s t e e p s l o p e , t h e c r u i s e
control cannot prevent the vehicle from
exceeding the programmed speed.
I n a n y e v e n t , t h e c r u i s e c o n t r o l c a n n o t
replace the need to observe the speed
l i m i t s , n o r c a n i t r e p l a c e t h e n e e d f o r
vigilance and responsibility on the part
of the driver.
To prevent the mat from becoming
caught under the pedals:
- ensure that the mat and i t s i x i n g s a r e p o s i t i o n e d
correctly.
- n e v e r i t o n e m a t o n t o p o f another.
You are advised to keep your feet
near the pedals.

In exceptional conditions (starting a

advisable to disarm the ASR and
E S P s y s t e m s , s o t h a t t h e w h e e l s c a n
move freely and regain grip.

to the right. Operating check
The ASR/ESP systems
offer exceptional safety
i n n o r m a l d r i v i n g , b u t t h i s
should not encourage the
driver to take extra risks or drive at
high speed.
The correct functioning of these
systems depends on observation
of the manufacturer's recommen-
d a t i o n s r e g a r d i n g w h e e l s ( t y r e s
a n d r i m s ) , t h e b r a k i n g c o m p o -
n e n t s , t h e e l e c t r o n i c c o m p o n e n t s
and the PEUGEOT assembly and
operation procedures.
A f t e r a n i m p a c t , h a v e t h e s y s t e m
checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Operation of the ASR and ESP
systems T h e s w i t c h l i g h t s u p a n d t h e
w a r n i n g l i g h t c o m e s o n , a c
-
companied by a message
on the multifunction display:
the ASR and ESP systems are dis-
armed.
These are triggered again :
F automatically if the ignition is
s w i t c h e d o f f ,
F m a n u a l l y b y p r e s s i n g t h e s w i t c h
again. When a malfunction of the
s y s t e m s o c c u r s , t h e s w i t c h
l i g h t l a s h e s a n d t h e w a r n i n g
light comes on.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have
the systems checked.
T h e w a r n i n g l i g h t l a s h e s i f
the ASR or ESP is activated.
Activation of the ASR and ESP
systems
W h e n t h e i g n i t i o n i s o n , t h e A S R a n d
E S P s y s t e m s a r e a l w a y s a c t i v e .
These systems are linked and com-
plement the ABS.
The ASR system optimises drive to
p r e v e n t t h e w h e e l s s k i d d i n g , b y a c t
-
i n g o n t h e b r a k e s o f t h e d r i v e w h e e l s
a n d o n t h e e n g i n e . I t a l s o a l l o w s t h e
directional stability of the vehicle to
be improved on acceleration.
I f t h e r e i s a v a r i a t i o n b e t w e e n t h e t r a -
j e c t o r y f o l l o w e d b y t h e v e h i c l e a n d
t h a t r e q u i r e d b y t h e d r i v e r , t h e E S P
system automatically acts on the en-
gine and the brake of one or more
w h e e l s , i n o r d e r t o p u t t h e v e h i c l e
b a c k o n c o u r s e , w i t h i n t h e l i m i t s o f
t h e l a w s o f p h y s i c s .

BATTERY
To charge the battery using a
battery charger:
- D i s c o n n e c t t h e b a t t e r y ,
- F o l l o w t h e i n s t r u c t i o n s f o r u s e
given by the battery charger
m a n u f a c t u r e r ,
- R e c o n n e c t s t a r t i n g w i t h t h e n e g a t i v e ( - ) t e r m i n a l ,
- Check that the terminals and connectors are clean. If they are
c o v e r e d w i t h s u l p h a t e ( w h i t e o r
g r e e n i s h d e p o s i t ) , d i s c o n n e c t
them and clean them.
- Wait for 2 minutes a f t e r s w i t c h i n g o f f
the ignition before
disconnecting the
battery.
- Never disconnect a terminal w h e n t h e e n g i n e i s r u n n i n g .
- Never charge a battery w i t h o u t i r s t d i s c o n n e c t i n g t h e
terminals.
- C l o s e t h e w i n d o w s a n d t h e roof before disconnecting the
battery.
- After every reconnection of t h e b a t t e r y , s w i t c h o n t h e
i g n i t i o n a n d w a i t 1 m i n u t e
b e f o r e s t a r t i n g t o a l l o w t h e
electronic systems to be
i n i t i a l i s e d . I f s l i g h t d i f i c u l t i e s
a r e e x p e r i e n c e d a f t e r t h i s ,
please consult a PEUGEOT
dealer.
It is advisable to disconnect the
battery if the vehicle is not to be
used for a period of more than
one month.
ECONOMY MODE FUNCTION
A f t e r t h e e n g i n e h a s s t o p p e d , c e r t a i n
f u n c t i o n s ( w i n d s c r e e n w i p e r , e l e c
-
t r i c w i n d o w s , c o u r t e s y l i g h t s , a u d i o
e q u i p m e n t , e t c . ) c a n o n l y b e u s e d f o r
a combined duration of approximately
t h i r t y m i n u t e s , t o p r e v e n t d i s c h a r g i n g
the battery.
O n c e t h e t h i r t y m i n u t e s a r e o v e r , a
s w i t c h i n g t o e c o n o m y m o d e m e s -
sage appears on the multi-function
display and the active functions are
put on standby.
These functions are reactivated au-
tomatically next time the vehicle is
driven.
In order to resume the use of these
f u n c t i o n s i m m e d i a t e l y , t h e e n g i n e
must be started and left to run for a
f e w m i n u t e s .
T h e t i m e a v a i l a b l e t o y o u w i l l t h e n b e
d o u b l e t h e d u r a t i o n f o r w h i c h t h e e n -
g i n e i s l e f t r u n n i n g . H o w e v e r , t h i s p e -
r i o d w i l l a l w a y s b e b e t w e e n i v e a n d
thirty minutes.
To start the vehicle from another
battery:
- Connect the red cable to the
positive (+) terminals of the
t w o b a t t e r i e s ,
- Connect one end of the green or black cable to the negative (-)
t e r m i n a l o f t h e s l a v e b a t t e r y ,
- Connect the other end of the green or black cable to an
e a r t h p o i n t o n t h e b r o k e n d o w n
v e h i c l e , a s f a r a s p o s s i b l e f r o m
t h e b a t t e r y ( f o r e x a m p l e , r i g h t -
h a n d e n g i n e m o u n t i n g ) ,
- O p e r a t e t h e s t a r t e r , l e t t h e e n g i n e r u n ,
- Wait for the engine to return to i d l e , t h e n d i s c o n n e c t t h e c a b l e s .
A l a t b a t t e r y p r e v e n t s t h e
engine from starting.
