159Practical information-
TOWING A TRAILER,
CARAVAN, BOAT, etc.
We recommend the use of original PEUGEOT towbars that have been tested and approved from the design stage of your vehicle and that the fit-ting of the towbar is entrusted to a PEUGEOT dealer.
Your vehicle is primarily designed for transporting people and luggage but it may also be used for towing a trailer.
Driving with a trailer subjects the tow-ing vehicle to more significant stress and its driver must be particularly careful.
Air density decreases with altitude, thus reducing engine performance. Above 1 000 metres, the maximum towing load must be reduced by 10 % and so on for every 1 000 metres of altitude.
Driving advice
Distribution of loads: Distribute the load in the trailer so that the heaviest items are as close as possible to the axle and the nose weight approaches the maximum permitted without ex-ceeding it.
Cooling: towing a trailer on a slope increases the temperature of the coolant.
As the fan is electrically controlled, its cooling capacity is not dependent on the engine speed.
On the contrary, use a high gear to lower the engine speed and reduce your speed.
The maximum towing load on a long slope depends on the gradient and the outside temperature.
In all cases, pay attention to the coolant temperature.
If the warning light comes on, stop the vehicle and switch off the engine as soon as possible.
Tyres: check the tyre pressures of the towing vehicle and of the trailer, observing the recommended pres-sures.
Braking: towing increases the brak-ing distance.
Lights: check the electrical signal-ling on the trailer.
Side wind: take into acount the increased sensitivity to side wind.

Fitting/removing the mat
When removing the mat on the driver’s side, push the seat as far back as pos-sible and remove the fixings.
When refitting, position the mat cor-rectly on the pin and clip the fixings.
Check that the mat is secured cor-rectly.
To prevent the mat from becoming caught under the pedals:
- only use mats suited to the fixings already present in the vehicle. It is impe-rative that these fixings are used.- never fit one mat on top of another.
FITTING ROOF BARS
(206 SW)
When fitting transverse roof bars, en-sure that they are positioned correctly.
The correct positions are shown by marks on each of the longitudinal bars.
Use accessories approved by PEUGEOT and follow the manufac-turer’s fitting instructions.
Maximum authorised weight on the roof rack, for a loading height not exceeding 40 cm (except bicycle carriers): 75 kg.
If the height exceeds 40 cm, adapt the speed of the vehicle to the condition of the road, to avoid damaging the roof bars.

161Practical information-
- Clean off bird droppings, resinous deposits, tar stains and grease marks as soon as possible; (these all contain sub-stances which can cause seri-ous damage to the paintwork).- Do not use a dry or abrasive cloth or detergent or solvent products to clean the double lens, com-plex surface headlamps as they are fitted with polycarbonate glass covered in a protective finish.- Do not use petrol, oil or cloth stain removers to clean the bodywork and plastic parts of your vehicle.- To prevent the development of bodywork corrosion as a result of accidental damage (stone chips, scratches, etc.) have them re-paired swiftly.
BODYWORK MAINTENANCE
To preserve the paintwork and the plastic trim on your vehicle, we recommend that you wash them regularly.
- by hand: there are no specific pre-cautions to take;- using an automatic car wash: re-peated use of poorly maintained automatic car washes can lead to the appearance of microscopic scratches which give the paintwork a matt appearance (especially vis-ible on dark colours);- using a high pressure washer: al-ways follow the recommendations on the equipment (pressure and spraying distance). If there are damaged areas on the vehicle (painted bumpers or head-lamps), it is not recommended to direct the high pressure jet onto them. Wash these areas by hand. Also avoid the entry of water into the locks.
For all questions relating to the main-tenance of your vehicle, contact an approved dealer who can advise you on quality products selected by our departments.
