Deactivating the front passenger’s front airbag *

To ensure the safety of your child, it is
essential to
deactivate
the passenger
’s
airbag
when you install a rear-facing
child seat on the front passenger seat.
Otherwise, the child would risk being
seriously injured or killed if the
airbag

were to infl ate.

 With the ignition switched off ,
insert the key into the passenger’s
airbag deactivation switch, turn
it to the "OFF" position, then re-
move the key keeping the switch in
the new position. Reactivation
As soon as the child seat is removed,
turn the airbag switch to the
"ON" po-
sition to reactivate the airbag and thus
ensure its safety function.
* According to country. When the ignition is on, this
warning lamp remains on in
the instrument panel while
the airbag is deactivated.
In the "OFF" position, the passen-
ger airbag will not be deployed in the
event of an impact.

Front lateral airbags
The lateral airbags protect the driver
and passengers in the event of a se-
rious side impact in order to limit the
risks of injury to the chest.
Each lateral airbag is fi tted into the
front seat back.
Deployment
The lateral airbags are deployed inde-
pendently of each other in the event
of a serious side impact applied to
all or part of the side impact zone B ,
perpendicular to the longitudinal cen-
treline of the vehicle on a horizontal
plane directed from the outside to the
inside of the vehicle.
The lateral airbag infl ates between the
front occupant of the vehicle and the
corresponding door trim panel.
In the event of a fault
If this warning lamp comes on, ac-
companied by an audible signal and a
message in the multifunction screen,

A. Front impact zone.

B. Side impact zone.
Curtain airbags
The curtain airbags protect the driver
and passengers in the event of a se-
rious side impact in order to limit the
risks of injury to the head.
Each curtain ai bag is fi tted into the
door pillars and the upper part of the
passenger compartment. Deployment
It is deployed at the same time as the
corresponding lateral airbags in the
event of a serious side impact applied
to all or part of the side impact zone
B ,
perpendicular to the longitudinal cen-
treline of the vehicle on a horizontal
plane directed from the outside to the
inside of the vehicle.
The curtain airbag infl ates between
the front or rear occupant of the vehi-
cle and the windows.

Knee airbag *
- Do not sit with your knees any nearer to the steering wheel than
necessary.
Front airbags
- Do not drive holding the steering
wheel by its spokes or resting your
hands on the centre part of the
wheel.
- Passengers must not place their feet on the dashboard.
- Smoke as little as possible; de- ployment of the airbags can cause
burns or the risk of injury from a
cigarette or pipe.
- Never remove or pierce the stee- ring wheel or hit it violently.
* According to country.
Front lateral airbags
- Only put approved covers on the
seats. These will not hamper the
deployment of the lateral airbags.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
- Do not fi x or attach anything to the seat backs. This could cause injury
to the chest or arms when the lat-
eral airbag infl ates.
- Do not sit with the upper part of the body any nearer to the door than
necessary. Curtain airbags
- Do not fi x or attach anything to the
pillars or the roof. This could cause
injury to the head when the curtain
airbag infl ates.
- Do not remove the grab handles in- stalled on the roof, they play a part
in securing the curtain airbags.
For the airbags to be fully ef-
fective, observe the following
safety rules:
- Wear a correctly adjusted seat belt.
- Sit in a normal upright position.
- Do not leave anything between the occupants and the airbags (a child,
pet, object...). This could hamper
the operation of the airbags or in-
jure the occupants.
- After an accident or if the vehicle has been stolen or broken into,
have the airbag systems checked.
- All work on the airbag system is strictly forbidden unless it is car-
ried out by qualifi ed personnel of
the PEUGEOT network.
- Even if all of the precautions men- tioned are observed, a risk of in-
jury or of slight burns to the head,
chest or arms, when an airbag is
deployed, cannot be ruled out. The
bag infl ates almost instantly (within
a few milliseconds) then defl ates
within the same time discharging
the hot gas via openings provided
for this purpose.

 Move the lever in the gate to select
a position.
The indicator corresponding to the posi-
tion selected appears in the instrument
panel screen.

P ark: to immobilise the vehicle and
to start the engine, with the parking
brake on.

R everse: to reverse (select this posi-
tion with the vehicle stationary, engine
at idle).

N eutral: to start the engine and to park,
with the parking brake on.

Note: if position N is inadvertently en-
gaged while driving, allow the engine
to return to idle before engaging posi-
tion D then accelerate.

D rive: to drive in automatic mode.

M anual: to drive selecting the gears.

S : sport programme.

 : snow programme.
"PORSCHE TIPTRONIC SYSTEM" AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
The six speed automatic gearbox of-
fers, as required, the comfort of the
auto-adaptive programme enhanced
by a selection suited to dynamic driv-
ing conditions: sport, or to driving on a
slippery road: snow.
However, manual selection is still pos-
sible using the gear lever.
Moving Off
With the engine running, to move off
from position P :

 to exit position P,
you must

press the brake pedal,

 select position R , D or M , then
gradually release the pressure on
the brake pedal; the vehicle moves
off immediately.
To move off from position N :

 with your foot on the brake, release
the parking brake,

 select position R , D or M , then
gradually release the pressure on
the brake pedal; the vehicle moves
off immediately.
Starting the engine

 with the parking brake on, select
position P or N in the gate,

 turn the ignition key. Always keep your foot on the
brake on a steep incline.
When the engine is at idle,
brakes not applied, if posi-
tion R , D or M is selected, the vehicle
moves even without the accelerator
being pressed.

Do not leave children unsupervised
inside the vehicle, with position R,
D or M selected, with the engine
running, as the vehicle moves
even without the accelerator being
pressed.
With the ignition off, if the le-
ver is not in position P , an
audible signal is heard when
the driver's door is opened, or
after approximately 45 seconds. Move
the lever to position P . The audible
signal ceases.

the P ark position.
Sport and Snow programmes
These are two special programmes.
The programme selected is displayed
in the instrument panel screen.
It is only possible to change
from one gear to another if
the vehicle speed and engine
speed permit. If they do not,
the vehicle will operate temporarily in
automatic mode.
When the vehicle is stationary or moving
very slowly, the gearbox automatically
selects gear M1 .
Programmes S (sport) and  (snow)
do not operate in manual gear selec-
tion mode.
Operation with manual selection of the gears

 select position M in the gate,

 push the lever towards the + sign
to change up a gear and push
again to change up another gear,

 pull the lever towards the - sign to
change down a gear and pull again
to change down another gear.
You can change from position D (driving in
automatic mode) to position M (driving in
manual mode) at any time.
The auto-adaptive programme

 select position D in the gate: the
gearbox operates in auto-adaptive
mode, without any action on your
part, taking into account the follow-
ing parameters:
- the style of driving,
- the profi le of the road,
- the vehicle load.
To obtain maximum acceleration without
touching the lever, press the accelerator
down fully (kick down). The programme
will change down automatically or will stay
in the gear selected until the maximum
engine speed is reached.
When the brake is applied, the programme
will change down automatically in order to
provide effi cient engine braking.
Sport programme

 Press button S once the vehicle
has been started in position D , the
auto-adaptive programme favours
dynamic driving.
Snow programme
This programme improves starting and
drive when traction is poor.

 Press button  once the vehicle
has been started and position D has
been selected, the auto-adaptive
programme adjusts the performance
of the vehicle to the condition of the
slippery road.
You can deactivate the Sport or Snow
programme at any time by pressing
the button selected.
Releasing the accelerator
sharply does not have any im-
mediate effect on the speed of
the vehicle. Never select position
N when
the vehicle is moving.
Never select positions P or R
unless the vehicle is stationary.
Never change between positions to
optimise braking on a slippery surface.

ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED SUSPENSION
The suspension adapts automatically
and instantly to different driving styles
and road characteristics, improving
the comfort of the occupants and the
vehicle's road holding capabilities. The
suspension favours smooth shock ab-
sorption, ensuring a comfortable ride,
but as soon as conditions demand a
change (sporty driving, tight bends,
avoidance action, etc.) it automatically
selects fi rmer shock absorption, guar-
anteeing optimum road holding.
An operating fault is indi-
cated by this warning lamp,
accompanied by an audible
signal and a message in the
multifunction screen.
In this situation the gearbox operates in
downgrade mode (locked in 3rd gear).
You may feel a substantial jolt when
changing from P to R and from N to R
(this will not cause any damage to the
gearbox).
Do not exceed 60 mph (100 km/h) or
keep within local speed limits.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer as soon
as possible.
Operating check
If the battery is fl at and the le-
ver is in position P , it will be
impossible to change to an-
other position.
In particular, do not force the lever
or there is a risk the gearbox may be
damaged.
Never press both the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal at the same time.
Braking and acceleration should be
done with the right foot. Pressing both
pedals simultaneously may cause
damage to the gearbox.

sition. The cruise control is not
yet active and no speed has been
memorised. The screen indicates:
Switching the function off

 Place switch 1 in position 0 or

LIMIT to switch the system off.
Note: It is possible to accel-
erate and drive momentarily
at a speed greater than the
memorised speed. The value

clutch pedal. The display indicates
(e.g. at 70 mph (110 km/h)):
Activation/memorising a speed
As soon as you reach the chosen
speed, press button 2 or 3 . This
memorises the speed, which will be
maintained automatically. The screen
indicates (e.g. at 70 mph (110 km/h)):
On a steep descent, the cruise
control, which does not act on
the brakes, is not able to prevent
the vehicle from exceeding the
programmed speed.
In no circumstances does the cruise control
replace the requirement to respect speed limits,
nor does it replace the need for vigilance and
responsibility on the part of the driver.
We recommend that your feet remain near
the pedals.
Cruise control function
This enables the vehicle to maintain
a steady speed programmed by the
driver
In order for it to be memorised, the
vehicle speed must be greater than
25 mph (40 km/h) with at least fourth
gear engaged (second gear for the
automatic gearbox), with the engine
running .
