CHILD SAFETY
123
ADVICE ON CHILDSEATS
The incorrect installation of a child
seat in a vehicle compromises the
child's protection in the event of an
accident.
Remember to fasten the seat belts or
the child seat harnesses keeping the
slack relative to the child's body to a
minimum, even for short journeys.
When installing a child seat using the
seat belt, ensure that the seat belt is
tightened correctly on the child seat
and that it secures the child seat fi rm-
ly on the seat of your vehicle. If your
passenger seat is adjustable, move it
forwards if necessary.
For optimum installation of the "for-
wards-facing" child seat, ensure that
the back of the child seat is in contact
with the back of the vehicle's seat
and that the head restraint does not
cause any discomfort.
If the head restraint has to be removed,
ensure that it is stored or attached se-
curely to prevent it from being thrown
around the vehicle in the event of
sharp braking.
Installing a booster seat
The chest part of the seat belt must
be positioned on the child's shoulder
without touching the neck.
Ensure that the lap part of the seat
belt passes correctly over the child's
thighs.
PEUGEOT recommends the use of
a booster seat which has a back, fi t-
ted with a seat belt guide at shoulder
level.
As a safety precaution, do not leave:

- a child or children alone and un-
supervised in a vehicle,

- a child or an animal in a vehicle
which is exposed to the sun, with
the windows closed,

- the keys within reach of children
inside the vehicle. To prevent accidental opening of
the doors and rear windows, use
the "Child lock".
Take care not to open the rear win-
dows by more than one third.
To protect young children from the
rays of the sun, fi t side blinds on the
rear windows.
Children under the age of 10 must
not travel in the "forwards-facing"
position on the front passenger seat,
unless the rear seats are already oc-
cupied by other children, cannot be
used or are absent.
Deactivate the passenger airbag
when a "rearwards-facing" child seat
is installed on the front seat.
Otherwise, the child would risk being
seriously injured or killed if the airbag
were to infl ate.

CHILD SAFETY
128

This system is independent
and in no circumstances does
it take the place of the central
locking control.
Check the status of the child lock
each time you switch on the ignition.
Always remove the key from the igni-
tion when leaving the vehicle, even
for a short time.
In the event of a serious impact, the
electric child lock is switched off au-
tomatically to permit the exit of the
rear passengers.

MANUAL CHILD LOCK

Mechanical system to prevent opening
of the rear door using its interior control.
The control is located on the edge of
each rear door.

)
Turn the red control one eighth of a
turn using the ignition key as shown
in the label on the door. Check that
the lock is on
.

ELECTRIC CHILD LOCK

Remote control system to prevent opening
of the rear doors using their interior con-
trols and use of the rear electric windows.

)
With the ignition on, press this button.
The indicator lamp in the button comes
on, accompanied by a message to con-
fi rm that the child lock is on.
This indicator lamp remains on until the
child lock is switched off.
It is still possible to open the doors from
the outside and operate the rear elec-
tric windows from the driver's control
panel.
Locking

Unlocking

)
Turn the red control one eighth of a
turn using the ignition key.

Switching on
Switching off

)
With the ignition on, press this but-
ton again.
The indicator lamp in the button goes
off, accompanied by a message to con-
fi rm that the child lock is off.
This indicator lamp remains off while
the child lock is switched off.

Any other status of the indica-
tor lamp indicates a fault with
the electric child lock.
Have it checked by a PEUGEOT
dealer or a qualifi ed workshop.

If even one of the two airbag
warning lamps comes on con-
tinuously, do not install a child
seat on the front passenger seat.
Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT
dealer or a qualifi ed workshop.

Operating fault
If these warning lamps
come on or fl ash, ac-
companied by an au-
dible warning and a
message in the screen,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualifi ed
workshop to have the system checked.
The airbags may no longer be deployed
in the event of a serious impact.

Reactivation
When you remove the child seat, turn
the switch to the "ON"
position to re-
activate the airbag and so assure the
safety of your front passenger in the
event of an impact.

With the ignition on, this warning
lamp comes on in the seat belt and
passenger's front airbag warning
lamps display for approximately
one minute, if the passenger's
front airbag is activated.

To assure the safety of your
child, the passenger's front
airbag must be deactivated
when you install a "rear facing" child
seat on the front passenger seat.
Otherwise, the child would risk being
seriously injured or killed if the airbag
were deployed.
According to version, this
warning lamp comes on in
the instrument panel and/or in
the seat belt and passenger's
front airbag warning lamps
display when the ignition is on and until
the airbag is reactivated.
Deactivation
Only the passenger's front airbag can
be deactivated.

)
With the ignition off
, insert the key
in the passenger airbag deactivation
switch.

)
Turn it to the "OFF"
position.

)
Then, remove the key keeping the
switch in the new position.

STOP & START
The Stop & Start system puts the engine
temporarily into standby - STOP mode -
during stops in the traffi c (red lights, traf-
fi c jams, or other...). The engine restarts
automatically - START mode - as soon as
you want to move off. The restart takes
place instantly, quickly and silently.
Perfect for urban use, the Stop & Start
system reduces fuel consumption and
exhaust emissions as well as the noise
level when stationary.
Operation

Going into engine STOP mode
The "ECO"
warning lamp comes
on in the instrument panel and
the engine goes into standby:

- with the electronic gearbox sys-
tem
, at speeds below 4 mph (6 km/h),
press the brake pedal or put the gear
lever in position N
.
If your vehicle is fi tted with the system,
a time counter calculates the sum of the
periods in STOP mode during a journey.
It rests itself to zero every time the igni-
tion is switched on with the key.
For your comfort, during park-
ing maoeuvres, STOP mode is
not available for a few seconds
after coming out of reverse gear.
STOP mode does not affect the func-
tionality of the vehicle, such as for
example, braking, power steering...

Never refuel with the engine in
STOP mode; you must switch
off the ignition with the key.
Special cases: STOP mode not
available
STOP mode is not invoked when:

- the driver's door is open,

- the driver's seat belt is not fas-
tened,

- the vehicle has not exceeded 6 mph
(10 km/h) since the last engine start
using the key,

- the electric parking brake is applied
or being applied,

- the engine is needed to maintain a
comfortable temperature in the pas-
senger compartment,

- demisting is active,

- some special conditions (battery
charge, engine temperature, brak-
ing assistance, ambient tempera-
ture...) where the engine is needed
to assure control of a system.
In this case, the "ECO"
warning
lamp fl ashes for a few seconds
then goes off.

This operation is perfectly normal.

167
Reactivation

The system is reactivated au-
tomatically at every new start
using the key.

Operating fault

In the event of a fault with the system,
the "ECO OFF"
switch warning lamp
fl ashes then comes on continuously.
Have it checked by a PEUGEOT dealer
or a qualifi ed workshop.
In the event of a fault in STOP mode,
the vehicle may stall: all the instrument
panel warning lamps come on. It is then
necessary to switch off the ignition and
start the engine again using the key.
Before doing anything under
the bonnet, deactivate the
Stop & Start system to avoid
any risk of injury resulting from auto-
matic operation of START mode.

The Stop & Start system
makes use of advanced tech-
nology. For any work on the
system go to a qualifi ed workshop
with the skills and equipment re-
quired, which a PEUGEOT dealer is
able to provide.

Maintenance

This system requires a 12 V battery
with a special specifi cation and technol-
ogy (reference numbers available from
PEUGEOT dealers).
Fitting a battery not listed by PEUGEOT
introduces the risk of malfunction of the
system.
To charge the battery, use a 12 V char-
ger and observe the polarity. Press the "ECO OFF"
switch again.
The system is active again; this is con-
fi rmed by the switch warning lamp go-
ing off and a message in the screen.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
210

Protect your eyes and face
before handling the battery.
All operations on the battery
must be carried out in a well ventilat-
ed area and away from naked fl ames
and sources of sparks, so as to avoid
the risk of explosion or fi re.
Do not try to charge a frozen battery;
the battery must fi rst be thawed out to avoid the risk of explosion. If the bat-
tery has been frozen, before charg-
ing have it checked by a PEUGEOT
dealer or a qualifi ed workshop who
will check that the internal compo-
nents have not been damaged and
the casing is not cracked, which
could cause a leak of toxic and cor-
rosive acid.
Do not reverse the polarity and use
only a 12 V charger.
Do not disconnect the terminals while
the engine is running.
Do not charge the batteries without
disconnecting the terminals fi rst.
Wash your hands afterwards.

Do not push the vehicle to start the
engine if you have an electronic
gearbox or automatic gearbox.

Before disconnecting the battery
Wait 2 minutes after switching off the ig-
nition before disconnecting the battery.
Close the windows and the doors be-
fore disconnecting the battery.

Following reconnection of the battery
Following reconnection of the battery,
switch on the ignition and wait 1 minute
before starting to permit initialisation of
the electronic systems. However, if prob-
lems remain following this operation,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a quali-
fi ed workshop.
Referring to the corresponding section,
you must yourself reinitialise (depending
on version):

- the remote control key,

- the electric blind(s),

- ...

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
214
The maximum towed load on a long in-
cline depends on the gradient and the
ambient temperature.
In all cases, keep a check on the cool-
ant temperature.

Braking
Towing a trailer increases the braking
distance.
To avoid overheating of the brakes on a
long mountain type of descent, the use
of engine braking is recommended.

Tyres

)
Check the tyre pressures of the tow-
ing vehicle and of the trailer, observ-
ing the recommended pressures.

Lighting

)
Check the electrical lighting and sig-
nalling on the trailer.

The rear parking sensors will
be deactivated automatically if
a genuine PEUGEOT towbar
is used.

)
If the warning lamp and the
STOP
warning lamp come
on, stop the vehicle and
switch off the engine as
soon as possible.
FITTING ROOF BARS

Maximum authorised weight
on the roof rack, for a loading
height not exceeding 40 cm
(with the exception of bicycle
carriers): 65
kg.
If the height exceeds 40 cm, adapt
the speed of the vehicle to the pro-
fi le of the road to avoid damaging the
roof bars and the fi xings on the roof.
Be sure to refer to national legislation
in order to comply with the regula-
tions for transporting objects that are
longer than the vehicle.

When fi tting transverse roof bars, use
the four quick-fi t fi xings provided for this
purpose:

)
lift the concealing fl aps,

)
open the fi xing covers on each bar
using the key,

)
put each fi xing in place and lock
them on the roof one by one,

)
ensure that roof bars are correctly
fi tted (by shaking them),

)
close the fi xing covers on each bar
using the key.

If your vehicle is fi tted with
roof fi nishers, do not use them
for carrying loads.
