Driving
Manual operation
 Select position M for sequential changing of the six gears.  Pull the lever towards the + sign to change up a gear.  Push the lever towards the - sign to change down a gear. It is only possible to change from one gear to another if the vehicle speed and engine speed permit; other wise, the gearbox will operate temporarily in automatic mode.
D disappears and the gears engaged appear in succession on the instrument panel.
Invalid value during manual operation
This symbol is displayed if a gear is not engaged correctly (selector between two positions).
Stopping the vehicle
Before switching off the engine, you can engage position P or N to place the gearbox in neutral. In both cases, apply the parking brake to immobilise the vehicle, unless it is programmed to automatic mode.
Operating fault
When the ignition is on, a message appears in the instrument panel screen to indicate a gearbox fault . In this case, the gearbox switches to back-up mode and is locked in 3rd gear. You may feel a substantial knock when changing from Pto R and from N to R . This will not cause any damage to the gearbox. Do not exceed 60 mph (100 km/h), local speed restrictions permitting. Have it checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.
If the engine speed is too low or too high, the gear selected flashes for a few seconds, then the actual gear engaged is displayed. It is possible to change from position D
(automatic) to position M (manual) at any time. When the vehicle is stationary or moving very slowly, the gearbox selects gear M1automatically. The spor t and snow programmes do not operate in manual mode.
You risk damaging the gearbox: - if you press the accelerator and brake pedals at the same time, - if you force the lever from position Pto another position when the battery
is flat. If the lever is not in position P , when the Pdriver's door is opened or approximately
45 seconds after the ignition is switched off, there is an audible signal and a message appears.  Return the lever to position P ; the audible signal stops and the message disappears.
To reduce fuel consumption when stationary for long periods with the engine running (traffic jam...), position the gear lever at N and apply the parking brake, unless it is programmed in automatic mode.

Exterior welcome
lighting
Remote switching on of the lighting makes your approach to the vehicle easier in poor light. It is activated according to the level of light detected by the sunshine sensor.
Switching on
Switching off
The exterior welcome lighting switches off automatically after a set time, when the ignition is switched on or on locking the vehicle.
Programming
The lighting duration is selected via the instrument panel screen configuration menu.
The duration of the welcome lighting is associated with and identical to that of the automatic guide-me-home lighting.
 Press the open padlock on the remote control. The dipped beam headlamps and the sidelamps come on; your vehicle is also unlocked.
Door mirror spotlamps
Switching on
The spotlamps come on: - when you unlock the vehicle, - when you remove the key from the ignition, - when you open a door, - when you use the remote control.
Switching off
They are timed to go off automatically.
To make your approach to the vehicle easier, these illuminate: - the zones facing the driver’s and passenger’s doors, - the zones for ward of the door mirrors and rear ward of the front doors.

In this position, the cour tesy lamp comes on gradually:

Take care to avoid leaving anything in contact with the cour tesy lamps.
With the "permanent lighting" mode, the lighting time varies according to the circumstances: - with the ignition off, approximately ten minutes, - in energy economy mode, approximately thir ty seconds, - with the engine running, unlimited.
- when the vehicle is unlocked, - when the key is removed from the ignition, - when opening a door, - when the remote control locking button is activated, in order to locate your vehicle.
It switches off gradually: - when the vehicle is locked, - when the ignition is switched on, - 30 seconds after the last door is closed.
Permanently off.
Permanent lighting.
Front and rear map reading
lamps
 With the ignition on, press the corresponding switch. When the front cour tesy lamp is on "permanent lighting", the rear map reading lamp comes on as well, unless it is "permanently off ".
From the front, you can deactivate the rear map reading lamps so as to not disturb sleeping rear passengers, for example. However, the rear passengers can force the illumination of a lamp.

Child safety
The incorrect installation of a child seat in a vehicle compromises the child's protection in the event of an accident. Remember to fasten the seat belts or the child seat harnesses keeping the slack relative to the child's body to a minimum, even for shor t journeys. When installing a child seat using the seat belt, ensure that the seat belt is tightened correctly on the child seat and that it secures the child seat firmly on the seat of your vehicle. Move the seat for wards if necessary. For optimum installation of the "for wards-facing" child seat, ensure that the back of the child seat is in contact with the back of the vehicle's seat and that the head restraint does not cause any discomfor t. If the head restraint has to be removed, ensure that it is stored or attached securely to prevent it from being thrown around the vehicle in the event of sharp braking.
Advice on child seats
As a safety precaution, do not leave: - a child or children alone and unsuper vised in a vehicle, - a child or an animal in a vehicle which is exposed to the sun, with the windows closed, - the keys within reach of children inside the vehicle. To prevent accidental opening of the doors and rear windows, use the "Child lock". Take care not to open the rear windows by more than one third. To protect young children from the rays of the sun, fit side blinds on the rear windows.
Children under the age of 10 must not travel in the "for wards-facing" position on the front passenger seat, unless the rear seats are already occupied by other children, cannot be used or are absent. Deactivate the passenger airbag when a "rear wards-facing" child seat is installed on the front seat. Other wise, the child would risk being seriously injured or killed if the airbag were to inflate.
Installing a booster seat
The chest par t of the seat belt must be positioned on the child's shoulder without touching the neck. Ensure that the lap par t of the seat belt passes correctly over the child's thighs. PEUGEOT recommends the use of a booster seat which has a back, fitted with a seat belt guide at shoulder level.

Electric child lock
Remote control system to prevent opening of the rear doors using their interior controls and use of the rear electric windows.
Switching on
 With the ignition on, press button A . The indicator lamp on button A comes on,
accompanied by a message to confirm that the child lock is on. This indicator lamp remains on until the child lock is switched off. It is still possible to open the doors from the outside and operate the rear electric windows from the driver's control panel.
Switching off
 With the ignition on, press button A again. The indicator lamp on button A goes off,
accompanied by a message to confirm that the child lock is off. This indicator lamp remains off while the child lock is switched off.
Any other status of the indicator lamp indicates a fault with the electric child lock. Have it checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.
This system is independent and in no circumstances does it take the place of
the central locking control. Check the status of the child lock each time you switch on the ignition. Always remove the key from the ignition when leaving the vehicle, even for a shor t time. In the event of a serious impact, the electric child lock is switched off automatically to permit the exit of the rear passengers.

Electronic stability programme (ESP)
Definitions
Anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake force distribution system (EBFD)
This system improves the stability and manoeuvrability of your vehicle when braking and offers improved control, in particular on poor or slippery road surfaces. The ABS prevents wheel lock in the event of emergency braking. The electronic brake force distribution system manages the braking pressure wheel by wheel.
Emergency braking assistance
In an emergency, this system enables you to reach the optimum braking pressure more quickly and therefore reduce the stopping
distance. It is triggered in relation to the speed at which the brake pedal is pressed. This is felt by a
reduction in the resistance of the pedal and an increase in the effectiveness of the braking.
Anti-skid regulation (ASR)
The ASR system (also known as Traction Control) optimises traction in order to avoid wheel slip by acting on the brakes of the driving wheels and on the engine. It also improves the directional stability of the vehicle on acceleration.
Dynamic stability control (DSC)
If there is a difference between the path followed by the vehicle and that required by the driver, the DSC monitors each wheel and
automatically acts on the brake of one or more wheels and on the engine to return the vehicle to the required path, within the limits of the laws
of physics.

Snow driving assistance
(Intelligent Traction Control)
Your vehicle has a system to help driving on snow: Intelligent Traction Control . This automatic system continuously checks for situations of difficult sur face adhesion that could make it difficult to move off or make progress on deep fresh snow or compacted snow. In these situations, Intelligent Traction Control takes over from the ASR system, limiting the amount of wheel slip to provide the best traction and trajectory control, even without snow tyres and with or without chains. In extremely severe conditions (snow on top of ice, sand, deep mud…), it can be useful to deactivate the ESP/ASR systems to allow a degree of wheel spin and so recover grip.
Operation
Anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake force distribution (EBFD)
In emergency braking, press ver y firmly without releasing the pressure.
When changing wheels (tyres and rims), make sure that these are approved for your vehicle. Normal operation of the ABS may make itself felt by slight vibrations of the brake pedal.
When this warning lamp comes on, accompanied by an audible signal and a message, it indicates that there is a fault with the ABS, which could cause loss of control of the vehicle when braking.
When this warning lamp comes on, coupled with the STOP warning lamp, accompanied by an audible signal and a message, it indicates that there is a fault with the electronic brake force distribution (EBFD), which could cause loss of control of the vehicle when braking. You must stop as soon as it is safe to do so. In both cases, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a
qualified workshop.

Safety
The driver must ensure that passengers use the seat belts correctly and that they are all restrained securely before setting off. Wherever you are seated in the vehicle, always fasten your seat belt, even for shor t journeys. Do not interchange the seat belt buckles as they will not fulfil their role fully. The seat belts are fitted with an iner tia reel permitting automatic adjustment of the length of the strap to your size. The seat belt is stowed automatically when not in use. Before and after use, ensure that the seat belt is reeled in correctly. The lower par t of the strap must be positioned as low as possible on the pelvis. The upper par t must be positioned in the hollow of the shoulder. The iner tia reels are fitted with an automatic locking device which comes into operation in
the event of a collision, emergency braking or if the vehicle rolls over. You can release the device by pulling firmly on the strap and
releasing it so that it reels in slightly.
Recommendations for children
Use a suitable child seat if the passenger is less than 12 years old or shor ter than one and a half metres. Never use the same seat belt to secure more than one person. Never allow a child to travel on your lap.
In order to be effective, a seat belt must: - be tightened as close to the body as possible, - be pulled in front of you with a smooth movement, checking that it does not twist, - be used to restrain only one person, - not bear any trace of cuts or fraying, - not be conver ted or modified to avoid affecting its per formance. In accordance with current safety regulations, for all repairs on your vehicle, go to a qualified workshop with the skills and equipment needed, which a PEUGEOT dealer is able to provide. Have your seat belts checked regularly by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop, par ticularly if the straps show signs of damage. Clean the seat belt straps with soapy
water or a textile cleaning product, sold by PEUGEOT dealers. After folding or moving a seat or rear bench
seat, ensure that the seat belt is positioned and reeled in correctly.
In the event of an impact
Depending on the nature and seriousness of the impact , the pretensioning device may be deployed before and independently of the airbags. Deployment of the pretensioners is accompanied by a slight discharge of harmless smoke and a noise, due to the activation of the pyrotechnic car tridge incorporated in the system.
In all cases, the airbag warning lamp comes on. Following an impact, have the seat belts system checked, and if necessary replaced, by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Practical information

Complete system consisting of a compressor and a sealant car tridge which permits temporar y repair of a tyre so that you can pairdrive to the nearest garage. It is designed to repair most punctures which could affect the tyre, located on the tyre tread or shoulder.

Removing a wheel
Parking the vehicle
Immobilise the vehicle where it does not block traffic: the ground must be level, stable and not slippery. Apply the parking brake unless it has
been programmed to automatic mode, switch off the ignition and engage first gear * to block the wheels. Check that the braking warning lamp and the P warning lamp in the parking brake control lever come on. The occupants must get out of the vehicle and wait where they are safe. Never go underneath a vehicle raised using a jack; use an axle stand.
List of operations
 Remove the bolt cover from each of the bolts using the tool 3 (according to equipment).  Fit the security socket 4 on the wheelbrace 1to slacken the security bolt (if fitted).  Slacken the other bolts using the wheelbrace 1 only.
