These systems are linked and com-
p l e m e n t t h e A B S .
T h e A S R s y s t e m o p t i m i s e s d r i v e t o
p r e v e n t t h e w h e e l s s k i d d i n g , b y a c t -
i n g o n t h e b r a k e s o f t h e d r i v e w h e e l s
a n d o n t h e e n g i n e . I t a l s o a l l o w s t h e
d i r e c t i o n a l s t a b i l i t y o f t h e v e h i c l e t o b e
i m p r o v e d o n a c c e l e r a t i o n .
I f t h e r e i s a v a r i a t i o n b e t w e e n t h e
t r a j e c t o r y f o l l o w e d b y t h e v e h i c l e a n d
t h a t r e q u i r e d b y t h e d r i v e r , t h e E S P s y s -
tem automatically acts on the engine
a n d t h e b r a k e o f o n e o r m o r e w h e e l s , i n
o r d e r t o p u t t h e v e h i c l e b a c k o n c o u r s e ,
w i t h i n t h e l i m i t s o f t h e l a w s o f p h y s i c s .

and a message on the multi-function
d i s p l a y .

The ASR/ESP systems offer

d r i v i n g , b u t t h i s s h o u l d n o t
e n c o u r a g e t h e d r i v e r t o t a k e
e x t r a r i s k s o r d r i v e a t h i g h s p e e d .
The correct functioning of these sys-
t e m s d e p e n d s o n o b s e r v a t i o n o f t h e
m a n u f a c t u r e r ’ s r e c o m m e n d a t i o n s r e -
g a r d i n g t h e w h e e l s ( t y r e s a n d r i m s ) ,
t h e b r a k i n g c o m p o n e n t s a n d t h e e l e c -
t r o n i c c o m p o n e n t s , a s w e l l a s t h e
P E U G E O T a s s e m b l y a n d o p e r a t i o n
p r o c e d u r e s .
A f t e r a n i m p a c t , h a v e t h e s y s t e m
checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
