signal becomes continuous and the "Danger"
symbol appears depending on the display.
The volume of the audio equipment decreases
during the transmission of the parking
assistance bleeps.
Switching the system off
Change to neutral, the system is again
inactive.
AUDIBLE AND/OR VISUAL
REAR PARKING
ASSISTANCE
If fitted on your vehicle, the system is audible
and/or visual and consists of four proximity
sensors, located in the rear bumper.
The sensors detect any obstacle: person,
vehicle, tree, gate, behind the vehicle during
the manoeuvre.
Objects the size or thickness of which is
detected at the beginning of the manoeuvre,
may no longer be detected at the end of the
manoeuvre: blind spots between and below
the sensors.
Examples: stake, roadworks cone,
kerbstone. Switching the system on
The system is activated as soon as reverse gear
is engaged.
This is accompanied by an audible signal and
displaying of the vehicle, depending on the display
.
The proximity information is given by:
an audible signal, which becomes more rapid
as the vehicle approaches the obstacle,
a graphic on the display, with blocks which
become progressively closer to the vehicle.
Depending on the display, the audible signal is
transmitted by a buzzer or by the rear speakers
which transmit:
on the right if an obstacle is detected on the
right,
on the left if an obstacle is detected on the
left,
on the right and on the left if an obstacle is
detected in the centre.
When the distance between the rear of
the vehicle and the obstacle is less than
approximately thirty centimetres, the audible Activation/Deactivation
The system can be activated
or deactivated from the display
configuration menu.
The activation and deactivation of the
system are memorised when the engine is
switched off.
This function will be deactivated
automatically when the vehicle is towing
a trailer or when a bicycle carrier is fitted
(vehicle fitted with towing attachment or
bicycle carrier recommended by PEUGEOT).
In bad or wintry weather, ensure that the
sensors are not covered with mud, frost or
snow.
If there is an operating fault (e.g.
sensors dirty), when reverse gear is
engaged, the service warning light comes
on, accompanied by an audible signal (short
bleep or long bleep if the sensors are dirty)
and a message on the display.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

FRONT AND 2ND ROW REAR
SIDE SEAT BELTS
The front and 2nd row rear side seats
are fitted with pre-tensioners
and force limiters.
To adjust the height:
 To lower the attachment point,
squeeze control and slide
it downwards.
 To raise the attachment point,
slide control upwards.
To lock:
 Pull the strap, then insert the buckle
into the stalk. 
Check that the seat belt is secured
correctly by pulling the strap.
The lap strap must be positioned as low as
possible on the pelvis. The chest strap must
pass over the hollow of the shoulder.
Check that the seat belt is fastened correctly
by pulling the strap.
Inertia reel seat belts
These are fitted with a device which locks
the seat belt automatically in the event of an
impact or emergency braking.
Safety in the event of a frontal impact has
been improved by the introduction of
pre-tensioning and force-limiting seat belts.
Depending on the seriousness of the impact,
the pre-tensioning system instantly tightens
the seat belts firmly against the body of the
occupant. The pre-tensioning seat belts are armed
when the ignition is on.
The force-limiting device reduces the
pressure of the seat belt against the
occupant’s body in the event of an accident.

4
A bag placed on the front passenger
seat or a pet sitting on this seat may
trigger the lighting of this warning light.
SEAT BELTS
Front seat belt warning
light
If the driver and/or front passenger
has/have not fastened his/their
seat belt, this warning light comes on.
Then, at a speed in excess of approximately
15 mph (25 km/h), it flashes accompanied by
an audible signal of increasing volume (for
approximately 90 seconds) and the message
"Seat belt reminder" on the display.
2nd row rear side seat belts
For your comfort, if you are not using
the seat belt, slide the seat belt loop to the
upper stop to prevent the tongue
from vibrating.
3rd row rear side seat belts
The 3rd row rear side seats are fitted with
two seat belts which are both three-point
inertia reel belts with force limiter.

Seat belts
The upper part must be positioned in the
hollow of the shoulder.
The inertia reels are fitted with a device
which automatically locks the strap in the
event of a collision or emergency braking.
You can release the device by pulling the
strap sharply and releasing it.
In order to be effective, a seat belt: must be tightened as close to the body as
possible,
 must restrain one adult only,
 must not bear any trace of cuts or fraying,
 must be pulled in front of you with a
smooth movement, checking that it does
not twist,
 must not be transformed or modified to
avoid altering its performance.
In accordance with current safety
regulations, all work and checks must be
carried out by a PEUGEOT dealer who
guarantees the standard of the work.
Have your seat belts checked regularly by a
PEUGEOT dealer, particularly if the straps
show signs of damage.
Clean the seat belt straps with soapy
water or a textile cleaning product, sold by
PEUGEOT dealers. After folding or moving a seat or rear bench
seat, ensure that the seat belt is positioned
and rolled up correctly.
Recommendations for children: 
use a suitable child seat if the passenger
is less than 12 years old or shorter than
one metre fifty.
 never use the same seat belt to restrain
more than one person,
 never allow a child to travel on your lap.
Depending on the nature and seriousness
of the impacts , the pre-tensioning device
may be triggered before and independently
of the air bags.
In all cases, the air bag warning light comes on.
Following an impact, however minor, or if
the straps show signs of wear, have the
seat belts system checked, and if necessary
replaced, by a PEUGEOT dealer.
* According to model.
116
Wherever you are seated in the
vehicle, always fasten your seat belt,
even for short journeys.
Do not invert the seat belt buckles as they
will not fulfil their role fully.
If the seats have armrests*, the lap part of
the seat belt must always pass under the
armrest.
The seat belts are fitted with an inertia reel
which automatically adjusts the length of the
strap to your size. The seat belt is stored
automatically when not in use.
Before and after use, ensure that the seat
belt is rolled up correctly.
The lower part of the strap must be
positioned as low as possible on the pelvis.
To install the seat belt, move the spring hook
into position to insert it into the stalk.
2nd and 3rd row rear centre seat
belts
The 2nd row rear centre seat and the rear
bench seat centre seat have an integrated
three-point inertia reel seat belt.

Air bags
The air bags have been designed to
maximise the safety of the occupants in the
event of a serious collision; they work in
conjunction with the force limiting seat belts.
In the event of a serious collision, the
electronic detectors record and analyse any
abrupt deceleration of the vehicle: if the
triggering threshold is reached, the air bags
inflate instantly and protect the occupants of
the vehicle.
Immediately after the impact, the air bags
deflate rapidly, so that they do not hinder the
visibility of the occupants nor their possible
exit from the vehicle. The air bags will not be deployed in
collisions which are not serious, for
which the seat belt is sufficient to provide
maximum protection. The seriousness of
the collision depends on the nature of the
obstacle and the speed of the vehicle at the
moment of impact.
Air bags only operate when the ignition is
switched on.
Front air bags
These are folded in the centre of the
steering wheel for the driver and in the
fascia for the front passenger. They are
deployed simultaneously, unless the
passenger air bag has been disarmed.
Front air bag malfunction
If this warning light comes on,
accompanied by a buzzer and a
message on the display , contact
a PEUGEOT dealer to have the system
checked.
SAFETY
4
117
The gas escaping from the inflated air
bags can be a minor irritant.
AIR BAGS

The air bag warning light on the instrument
panel is lit throughout the disarming
process.
In the "OFF" position, the passenger air
bag will not be triggered in the event of an
impact.
As soon as the child seat is removed, turn
the air bag slot to the "ON" position to
re-activate the air bag and thus ensure the
safety of your passenger in the event of an
impact.
Disarming check
This is confirmed by an indicator light,
accompanied by an audible signal and
a message on the display.
Disarming the passenger air bag*
To ensure the safety of your child, it is
essential to disarm the passenger air bag
when you install a rear-facing child seat
on the front passenger seat. Otherwise,
the child would risk being killed or
seriously injured if the air bag were
to inflate.  With the ignition switched off , insert the
key into the passenger air bag disarming
switch 1, turn it to the "OFF" position,
then remove the key keeping the slot in
this position.
Side air bags* and curtain air bags*
The side air bags are incorporated into the
front seat backs on the door side.
The curtain air bags are incorporated into
the door pillars and the upper part of the
passenger compartment.
They are deployed independently of each
other depending on which side the collision
occurs.
Operating check
This is confirmed by an indicator
light, accompanied by an audible
signal and a message on the
multifunction display.
If this indicator light comes on, accompanied
by an audible signal and the message "Air
bag fault" on the multifunction display,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have the
system checked.
Air bags118
In the event of permanent lighting of
the two air bag warning lights, do not
install a rear facing child seat. Contact a
PEUGEOT dealer.
With the ignition on (2nd notch),
illumination of this warning light
accompanied by an audible signal
and the message "Passenger air
bag deactivated" on the display, indicates
that the passenger air bag is disarmed
(switch in the "OFF" position).
