Moving off
With the engine running, to move off
from position P:
-
it is essential to press the brake
pedal and control A to exit posi-
tion P,
-
select function R, D or M, then
gradually release the pressure on
the brake pedal and control A; the
vehicle moves off immediately.
You can also move off from position
N:
-
release the handbrake, with your
foot on the brake
-
select function R, D or M, then
gradually release the pressure
on the brake pedal; the vehicle
moves off immediately.
WARNING

Automatic operation
Automatic changing of the four gears:
- select function D in the gate.
The gearbox always selects the most
suitable gear according to the follow-
ing parameters:
- the style of driving,
- the road proile,
- the vehicle load.
The gearbox is then operating in
auto-adaptive mode, without any ac-
tion on your part. If you take your foot off the accel-
erator suddenly, the gearbox will not
change to a higher gear for reasons
of safety.
Snow program
In addition to the auto-adaptive pro-
gram, there is a special program.
The program is displayed on the in-
strument panel screen.
This program improves starting and
drive when traction is poor.
- Press button
W once the vehicle
has been started and function D
selected.
The gearbox adapts to driving on
slippery roads.
Note: you can return to the auto-
adaptive program at any time.
- Press button W again to switch off
the program you are in.
Manual operation
Manual changing of the four gears:
- select function M in the gate,
- push the lever to the + sign to
change to a higher gear,
- pull the lever to the - sign to
change to a lower gear.
You can change from position D
(driving in automatic mode) to posi-
tion M (driving in manual mode) at
any time.
Note
It is only possible to change from one
gear to another if the vehicle speed
and engine speed permit. If they do
not, the vehicle will operate tempo-
rarily in automatic mode.
When the vehicle is stationary or
moving very slowly, the gearbox au-
tomatically selects gear M1.
Program W (snow) does not operate
in manual mode.
WARNING
Never select function N when the
vehicle is moving.
Never select functions P or R unless
the vehicle is stationary.
Never change between functions to op-
timise braking on a slippery surface.
Notes
For immediate maximum accelera-
tion without touching the gear lever,
press the accelerator pedal down as
far as it will go (kickdown). The gear-
box will automatically change down
or maintain the gear selected until
maximum engine speed is reached.
When braking, the gearbox will au-
tomatically change down in order to
provide eficient engine braking.

Disarming the ASR system
In exceptional conditions (starting
the vehicle when stuck in mud, on
snow, on unstable ground...), it may
prove useful to disarm the ASR sys-
tem to allow the wheels to skid and
regain grip.
F Press switch A in the centre of the
fascia panel.
TRACTION CONTROL (ASR)
This system is linked to and comple-
ments the ABS. Normal operation of the ABS may
make itself felt by slight vibrations
of the brake pedal.
In emergency braking, press
very irmly without releasing the
pressure.
Illumination of this warning
light indicates a malfunction
of the electronic brake force
distribution, which can cause
a loss of control of the vehi-
cle when braking.
Stop immediately.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
Operation of the ASR system
The indicator light on the
switch and the warning light
come on: the ASR system will
no longer act on the operation
of the engine or the brakes.
The ASR system optimises drive to
prevent the wheels skidding, by act-
ing on the brakes of the drive wheels
and on the engine. It also allows the
directional stability of the vehicle to
be improved on acceleration.
When a malfunction of the
system occurs, the warning
light on the instrument panel
comes on.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer
to have the system checked.
It will come into operation again:
F
automatically above 20 mph
(30 km/h),
F manually when the switch is
pressed again.
The operation of the
system is ensured to
the extent to which the
recommendations of the
manufacturer regarding
the wheels (tyres and wheel rims),
the braking components, the
electronic components and the
assembly and repair procedures
within the PEUGEOT network are
observed.
After an impact, have the system
checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
When this system is operat-
ing, this light lashes.

Recalling the memorised
speed
After cancellation, press button E.
Your vehicle will return to the last
memorised speed.
CRUISE CONTROL
Cruise control enables the vehicle to
maintain a steady speed program-
med by the driver.
In order for it to be memorised, the
vehicle speed must be greater than
approximately 25 mph (40 km/h).
The cruise control controls are loca-
ted on the steering wheel.
Memorising a speed
As soon as you reach the chosen
speed, press control B or C. This
memorises the speed.
Note: It is possible to accelerate
momentarily without disarming the
cruise control.
On a steep descent, the
cruise control may not
be able to prevent the
vehicle from exceeding the
programmed speed.
The cruise control does not, in any
case, replace the need to observe
the speed limits nor does it replace
the need for vigilance and responsi-
bility on the part of the driver
Do not use cruise control on slippery
roads or in heavy trafic.
Operation
F Press control A (ON position).
A speed can be memorised.
F Press control D (OFF position) to
cancel.
Cancelling the memorised
speed
If you wish to cancel the memorised
speed:
F Press button D or the brake or
clutch pedal.
Changing a memorised speed
To memorise a speed higher than the
previous one:
F press button B;
F release it when you have reached
the required speed.
To memorise a speed lower than the
previous one:
F press button C;
F release it when you have reached
the required speed.

Activation
The system is activated as soon as
reverse gear is engaged; an audible
bleep shows that it is active.
The proximity information is given by
an audible signal, which becomes
more rapid as the vehicle approach-
es the obstacle.
When the distance between the rear
of the vehicle and the obstacle is
less than approximately twenty cen-
timetres, the audible signal becomes
continuous.
REAR PARKING ASSISTANCE
This system consists of proximity sen-
sors, located in the rear bumper, and
a special speaker itted in the fascia.
This detects any obstacle (person,
vehicle, tree, gate, etc.) behind the
vehicle. However, it may not detect ob-
stacles located just below the bumper.
An object, such as a stake, a road-
works cone or any other similar
object may be detected at the begin-
ning of the manoeuvre, but may no
longer be detected when the vehicle
is close to it.
In bad or wintry weather, ensure that
the sensors are not covered with
mud, frost or snow.
Detection zoneDeactivation
- Change to neutral, the system is again inactive.
If there is an operating fault,
the audible signal will be a
short bleep followed by a
long bleep when changing to
reverse gear.

AIR BAGS
The air bags have been designed to
maximise the safety of the occupants
in the event of serious collisions.
They work in conjunction with the
seat belts. The electronic detectors
register and analyse any abrupt de-
celeration of the vehicle: if the trig-
gering threshold is reached, the air
bags inlate instantly and protect the
occupants of the vehicle.
Immediately after the impact, the air
bags delate rapidly so that they do
not hinder the visibility of the occu-
pants nor their exit if necessary from
the vehicle.
The air bags are not deployed in the
case of collisions which are not seri-
ous, for which the seat belt is sufi-
cient to ensure maximum protection.
The seriousness of a collision de-
pends on the nature of the obstacle
and the speed of the vehicle at the
moment of the collision.
Air bags only operate when the
ignition is switched on.
Note: the gas escaping from the air
bags can be a minor irritant. If this warning light comes
on on the instrument panel,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer
to have the system checked.
FRONT AIR BAGS
These are folded in the centre of the
steering wheel for the driver and in
the fascia for the front passenger.
They are deployed simultaneously,
except in cases where the passenger
air bag is disarmed.
Disarming the passenger
air bag*
To ensure the safety of your child,
it is essential to disarm the pas-
senger air bag when you install a
rear-facing child seat on the front
passenger seat.
- Remove the ignition key, insert it
into the passenger air bag switch 1
located between the two front seats
and turn it to the "OFF" position.
- The air bag warning light on the in- strument panel is lit throughout the
disarming process.
