ADVICE ON ANTIPOLLUTION AND HOW TO ECONOMISE ON FUEL WHEN DRIVING
RENAULT actively participates in
the reduction of pollutant exhaust
gas emissions and in saving energy.
By virtue of its design, its original
settings and moderate fuel
consumption, your RENAULT
conforms to the current antipollution
standards. Technical design cannot
achieve everything, however. The
level of exhaust gas pollutant
emissions and the fuel
consumption of your vehicle is
within your control. Ensure that
your vehicle is maintained
correctly, and that you drive and use
it carefully.Maintenance
Not observing the antipollution
legislation may lead to the owner of
the vehicle being prosecuted.
Replacing parts of the engine, the
fuel supply system and the exhaust
with parts which are not original
parts recommended by the
manufacturer may mean that your
vehicle no longer conforms to the
antipollution regulations.
Have your vehicle checked and
adjusted by your Renault Dealer in
accordance with the instructions in
your Warranty and Servicing booklet.
Your Renault Dealer has all the
equipment necessary to ensure that
your vehicle is maintained to its
original standard.
Always remember that the emission
of pollutant fumes is directly linked
to fuel consumption.
Engine adjustments
• ignition:this requires no adjustment
• spark plugs:optimum conditions
of use, performance and output
require that the specifications
laid down by our Design
Department be rigorously
adhered to.
If the spark plugs have to be
replaced, use the make, type and
gap specified for your engine.
Consult your Renault Dealer for
this information.
• idle speed:this requires no
adjustment.
• air filter, diesel fuel filter:a
blocked cartridge reduces output
and must be replaced.
• injection pump setting:this must
be set to the recommended values.

ENVIRONMENT
Your vehicle has been designed with
the aim of caring forthe environment.
• Most versions are fitted with a
depollution system incorporating
thecatalytic converter, oxygen
sensor and active carbon filter
(which prevents fuel vapour
evaporating from the fuel tank
into the open air).
•These vehicles run on unleaded
fuel only.
•your vehicle comprises 87%
recyclable partsand already
contains parts which are made
fromrecycled materials(as marked
on the diagram above).
• 95% of the plastic parts in your
vehicle are marked by a symbol
which allows the principal
component material to be identified.
This marking means that the parts
removed can be sorted more
easily, making recycling of each of
them easier. In addition, your vehicle meets the
requirements of European legislation
concerning the protection of the
environment.
Make your contribution to
environmental protection too !
Do not dispose of parts replaced in
the course of routine vehicle
maintenance (battery, oil filter, air
filter...) and oil cans (empty or filled
with old oil...) with household
waste.
Dispose of them through specialist
organisations. In all cases comply
with local legislation.

OPERATING INCIDENTS(continued)
On the open road CAUSES REMEDIAL ACTION
• Abnormal white smoke from the
exhaust.Mechanical fault: cylinder head gasket
blown.Stop the engine.
Consult a Renault Dealer.
• Smoke under the bonnet. Short circuit. Stop the vehicle, switch off the
ignition, disconnect the battery.
Cooling circuit fault. Consult a Renault Dealer.
• The oil pressure warning light
illuminates
- when cornering or braking. The level is too low. Top up the oil.
- at idle speed. The oil pressure is too low. Consult the nearest Renault Dealer.
- is slow to extinguish or remains
illuminated on acceleration.Loss of oil pressure. Stop and call for the assistance of a
Renault Dealer.
• The engine lacks power. Dirty air filter. Replace the cartridge.
Fuel supply fault. Check the fuel level.
Spark plugs faulty, incorrect gap. Consult a Renault Dealer.
• Idle speed unsteady or engine stalls. Lack of compression (spark plugs,
ignition, air leak)Consult a Renault Dealer.
