WARNING:
While driving, using the cellular phone is ex-
tremely dangerous because it significantly im-
pairs your concentration and diminishes your
reaction capabilities to sudden changes on the
road, and it may lead to a fatal accident. This
applies to all phone call situations such as when
receiving an incoming call, during a phone
conversation, when calling through the phone
book search, etc.
CAUTION:
Certain country or region jurisdictions prohibit
the use of the cellular phone in the car without
hands-free support.
This chapter provides in\formation about the RENAULT
hands-\free phone system using a Bluetooth
Šconnec-
tion.
Bluetooth
Šis a wireless radio communication stan-
dard. This system o\f\fers a hands-\free \feature \for your
cellular phone to enhance driving com\fort.
In order to use your cellular phone with the Bluetooth
Š
o\f the audio system, the cellular phone must \first be set
up. Once it has been set up, the hands-\free mode is
automatically activated on the registered cellular phone
(via Bluetooth
Š) when it comes into range.
A noti\fication message appears on the audio display
when the phone is connected, when an incoming call
is being received, as well as when a call is initiated.
When a call is active, the audio system and
microphone (located near the map light) enable
hands-\free communication.
I\f the audio system is in use at the time, the radio, CD,
or AUX source mode will be muted and will stay muted
until the active call has ended.
The Bluetooth
Šsystem may not be able to connect
with your cellular phone \for the \following reasons:
. The cellular phone is too \far away \from the vehicle.
. The Bluetooth
Šmode on the cellular phone has
not been activated.
. The cellular phone has not been paired with the
Bluetooth
Šsystem o\f the audio unit.
. The cellular phone does not support BluetoothŠ
technology (BT Core v1.2, \bands Free Pro\file v1.0
and Object Push Pro\file v1.0) . NOTE:
For details, see the cellular phone’s owner’s
manual.
\bands-\free phone setup

During the first 1,600 km (1,000 miles\f , follow these
recommen\bations to obtain maximum engine perfor-
mance an\b ensure the future reliability an\b economy of
your new vehicle. Failure to follow these recommen\ba-
tions may result in shortene\b engine life an\b re\buce\b
engine performance.
.Do not \brive at a constant spee\b, either fast or
slow, for long perio\bs of time.
. Do not run the engine over 4,000 rpm (HR12 or

it-yourself” section shoul\b be checke\b perio\bi-
cally.
WARNING:
.Never leave children or adults who would
normally require the support of others alone
in your vehicle. Pets should not be left alone
either. They could unknowingly activate
switches or controls and inadvertently be-
come involved in a serious accident and
injure themselves. On hot, sunny days,
temperatures in a closed vehicle could
quickly become high enough to cause se-
vere or possibly fatal illness to people or
animals.
. Properly secure all luggage to help prevent it
from sliding or shifting. Do not place lug-
gage higher than the seatbacks. In a sudden
stop or collision, unsecured luggage could
cause personal injury.
EXHAUST GAS (carbon monoxi\be\f
WARNING:
.Do not breathe exhaust gas; it contains
colorless and odorless carbon monoxide.
Carbon monoxide is dangerous. It can cause
unconsciousness or death.
. If you suspect that exhaust fumes are
entering the vehicle, drive with all windows
fully open, and have the vehicle inspected
immediately.

5-18Starting and driving
Starting vehicle
1. After \ftarting the engine, depre\f\f the cl\btch pedalto the floor and move the \fhift lever to the “1” (1\ft)
or “R” (Rever\fe) po\fition.
2. Slowly depre\f\f the accelerator pedal, relea\fing the cl\btch pedal and parking brake at the \fame
time.
Shifting gear
SSD0084
To change gear\f, or when \bp\fhifting or down\fhifting,
f\blly depre\f\f the cl\btch pedal, \fhift into the appropriate
gear, then \flowly and \fmoothly relea\fe the cl\btch
pedal.
To en\f\bre \fmooth gear change\f, f\blly depre\f\f the
cl\btch pedal before operating the \fhift lever. If the
cl\btch pedal i\f not f\blly depre\f\fed before the
tran\fmi\f\fion i\f \fhifted, a gear noi\fe may be heard.
Tran\fmi\f\fion damage co\bld occ\br.
Start the vehicle in the “1” (1\ft) po\fition and \fhift to
the “2” (2nd) , “3” (3rd) , “4” (4th) and “5” (5th) gear in
\feq\bence according to the vehicle \fpeed.
Yo\b cannot \fhift directly from the “5” (5th) po\fition into
the “R” (Rever\fe) po\fition. Fir\ft \fhift into the “N”
(Ne\btral) po\fition, then \fhift into the “R” (Rever\fe) po\fition.
If it i\f diffic\blt to move the \fhift lever into the “R”
(Rever\fe) or “1” (1\ft) po\fition, \fhift to the “N” (Ne\btral)
po\fition, and then relea\fe the cl\btch pedal once. F\blly
depre\f\f the cl\btch pedal again and \fhift into “R” or “1”.
S\bgge\fted maxim\bm \fpeed in each gear
Down\fhift to a lower gear if the engine i\f not r\bnning
\fmoothly, or if yo\b need to accelerate.
Do not exceed the maxim\bm \f\bgge\fted \fpeed (\fhown
below) in any gear. For level road driving, \b\fe the
highe\ft gear \f\bgge\fted for that \fpeed. Alway\f ob\ferve
po\fted \fpeed limit\f, and drive according to the road
condition\f which will en\f\bre \fafe operation. Do not
over-rev the engine when \fhifting to a lower gear a\f it
may ca\b\fe engine damage or lo\f\f of vehicle control.
