side door.Operating the driver’s window
1) Open
2) Automatically open
3) CloseTo open:
Push the switch down lightly and hold it.
The window will open as long as the
switch is held.
This switch also has a one-touch auto
down feature that allows the window to be
opened fully without holding the switch.
Push the switch down until it clicks and re-
lease it, and the window will fully open. To
stop the window halfway, pull the switch
up lightly.
To close:
Pull the switch up lightly and hold it. Thewindow will close as long as the switch is
held.
Operating the passengers’ windows
To open the passengers’ windows, push
the appropriate switch down and hold it
until the window reaches the desired posi-
tion.
To close the window, pull the switch up
and hold it until it reaches the desired po-
sition.

Locking the passengers’ windows1) Lock
2) UnlockTo lock the passengers’ windows, push
the lock switch. When the lock switch is in
the “LOCK” position, the passengers’ win-
dows cannot be opened or closed.
Press the switch again to cancel the pas-
sengers’ window locking.

Passengers’ side switches
To open the window, push the switch
down and hold it until the window reaches
the desired position.
To close the window, pull the switch up
and hold it until the window reaches the
desired position.
When the lock switch on the power win-dow switch cluster, located on the driver’s
side door, is in the “LOCK” position, the
passengers’ windows cannot be operated
with the passengers’ switches.
Rear liftgateThe rear liftgate can be locked and un-
locked using either the keyless entry sys-
tem or the power door locking switches.
Refer to the “Power door locking switches”
and “Remote keyless entry system” sec-
tions in this chapter.
To open the rear liftgate, first unlock the
rear liftgate lock then pull the outside han-
dle up.
Then, hold the rear liftgate and raise it as
high as it will go.

To close the rear liftgate, lower it slowly
and push down firmly until the latch en-
gages.
The rear liftgate can be lowered easily if
you pull down on the recessed grip.
NOTEIf the rear liftgate cannot be unlocked
due to a discharged battery, a fault in
the door locking/unlocking system or
other causes, you can unlock it by
manually operating the rear liftgate
lock release lever.
For the procedure, refer to “Rear lift-gate – if the rear liftgate cannot be un-
locked” in chapter 9 “In case of emer-
gency” .

To prevent dangerous exhaust
gas from entering the vehicle, al-
ways keep the rear liftgate closed
while driving.

Do not attempt to shut the rear lift-
gate while holding the recessed
grip. Also avoid closing the rear
liftgate by pulling on the recessed
grip from inside the cargo space.
There is a danger of your hand be-
ing caught and injured.

Do not jam a plastic bag in or
place cellophane tape on the rear
gas struts or scratch the struts
while loading or unloading cargo.
That could cause leakage of gas
from the struts, which may result
in their inability to hold the rear
liftgate open.

Be careful not to hit your head or
face on the rear liftgate when
opening or closing the rear lift-
gate and when loading or unload-
ing cargo.

Moonroof 3The moonroof has both tilting and sliding
functions.
The moonroof operates only when the ig-
nition switch is in the “ON” position.
Tilt function1) Tilt up
2) Tilt downThe tilting function will only operate when
the moonroof is fully closed.
Push the rear side of the “Tilt” switch to
raise the moonroof.
Push the front side of the “Tilt” switch to
lower the moonroof.Release the switch after the moonroof has
been raised or has been lowered com-
pletely. Pushing the switch continuously
may cause damage to the moonroof.

Sliding function1) Open
2) ClosePush the “Open/Close” switch rearward to
open the moonroof. The sun shade will
also be opened together with the moon-
roof.
Push the “Open/Close” switch forward to
close the moonroof. The moonroof will
stop halfway if you continue to press on
the switch. Release the switch once and
push it again to close the moonroof com-
pletely.After washing the vehicle or after it rains,
wipe away water on the roof prior to open-
ing the moonroof to prevent drops of water
from falling into the passenger compart-
ment.
NOTEIf the moonroof cannot be closed
through switch operation because of
system failure, it can be closed manu-
ally using a hex-head wrench. For the
procedure, refer to “Moonroof – if the
moonroof cannot be closed” section in
chapter 9 “In case of emergency”.

Never let anyone’s hands, arms,
head or any objects protrude from
the moonroof. A person could be
seriously injured if the vehicle
stops suddenly or turns sharply
or if the vehicle is involved in an
accident.
To avoid serious personal injury
caused by entrapment, you must
do the following.

Before closing the moonroof,
make sure that no one’s hands,
arms, head or other objects will be
accidentally caught in the moon-
roof.

Sun shadeThe sun shade can be slid forward or
backward by hand while the moonroof is
closed.
If the moonroof is opened, the sun shade
also moves back.
Before leaving the vehicle, always
remove the key from the ignition
switch for safety and never allow
an unattended child to remain in
the vehicle. Failure to follow this
procedure could result in injury to
a child operating the moonroof.

Do not sit on the edge of the open
moonroof.

Do not operate the moonroof if
falling snow or extremely cold
conditions have caused it to
freeze shut.

Ignition switchThe ignition switch has four positions:
LOCK, ACC, ON and START.NOTE
Keep the ignition switch in the
“LOCK” position when the engine is
not running.

Using electrical accessories for a
long time with the ignition switch in the
“ON” or “ACC” position can cause the
battery to go dead.
If the ignition switch will not move from
the “LOCK” position to the “ACC” po-
sition, turn the steering wheel slightly
to the left and right as you turn the ig-
nition switch.

If the key is attached to a keyholderor to a large bunch of other keys, cen-
trifugal force may act on it as the vehi-
cle moves, resulting in unwanted turn-
ing of the ignition switch. Also, if a
large keyholder is attached to the key,
your knees or hands may accidentally
touch it in a way that turns the ignition
switch.

LOCKThe key can only be inserted or removed
in this position. The ignition switch will lock
the steering wheel when you remove the
key.
If turning the key is difficult, turn the steer-
ing wheel slightly to the right and left as
you turn the key.

Automatic transmission vehiclesThe key can be turned from “ACC” to
“LOCK” only when the selector lever is in
the “P” position.

Manual transmission vehicles
The key can be turned from “ACC” to

“LOCK” only when the key is pushed in
while turning it.
ACCIn this position the electrical accessories
(radio, cigarette lighter, etc.) can be used.
ONThis is the normal operating position after
the engine is started.

STARTThe engine is started in this position. The
starter cranks the engine to start it. When
the key is released (after the engine has
started), the key automatically returns to
the “ON” position.
For models with immobilizer
If you fail to start your engine with your
registered key, once pull out the key (at
this time, the security indicator light
blinks), and then insert the key in the igni-
tion switch and turn it to the “START” po-
sition and again try to start your engine.NOTEThe engine may not start in the follow-
ing cases:
The key grip is touching another key
or a metallic key holder.


The key is near another key
that con-
tains an immobilizer transponder.

Never turn the ignition switch to
“LOCK” while the vehicle is being
driven or towed because that will
lock the steering wheel, prevent-
ing steering control. And when
the engine is turned off, it takes a
much greater effort than usual to
steer.

Before leaving the vehicle, always
remove the key from the ignition
switch for safety and never allow
an unattended child to remain in
the vehicle. Failure to follow this
procedure could result in injury to
a child or others. Children could
operate the power windows, the
moonroof or other controls or
even make the vehicle move.
Do not turn the ignition switch to the
“START” position while the engine
is running.

Key reminder chime
The reminder chime sounds when the
driver’s door opens and the key is in the
“LOCK” or “ACC” positions. The chime
stops when the key is removed from the
ignition switch.
Ignition switch light

For easy access to the ignition switch in
the dark, the ignition switch light comes on
when driver’s door is opened. The light re-
mains on for 10 seconds and goes out af-
ter driver’s door is closed or if the key is
turned to the “ON” position.
Key interlock release (AT ve-
hicles only)If the key can not be turned to the “LOCK”
position even when the selector lever is in
the “P” position:
1. Take out the screwdriver from the tool
bag.2. Remove the cover under the steering
column using a Phillips screwdriver.
3. Turn the ignition key while pressing the
key interlock release lever.
Take your vehicle to the nearest Saabdealer immediately to have the key inter-
lock system repaired.

Interior lightWhen leaving your vehicle, make sure the
light goes out to avoid battery discharge.
Dome lightThe dome light switch has three positions:
ON: The light stays on continuously.
DOOR (middle position): The dome light
comes on when any of the doors (or the
rear liftgate) is opened. The light remains
on for several seconds and gradually goes
out after all doors (and the rear liftgate)
are closed or if the key is inserted in the ig-
nition switch.
The light can also be turned on by use of
the remote keyless entry transmitter. Seethe “Remote keyless entry system” sec-
tion in chapter 2 for detailed information.
OFF: The light stays off.

Cargo area lightDOOR:The light comes on only when the
rear liftgate is opened.
OFF: The light stays off.
