To change the mode indication, briefly push the knob.
Each press of the knob changes the function alternately.A trip meter B trip meter
To set the trip meter to zero, select either the A trip or B trip meter and
push the knob and keep it pushed for more than 1 second.
NOTE If the connection between the combination meter and battery is bro-
ken for any reason such as vehicle maintenance or fuse replace-ment, the data recorded on the trip meter will be lost. Tachometer
CAUTION
Do not operate the engine with the pointer of the tachometer in
the red zone. In this range, fuel injection will be cut by the enginecontrol module to protect the engine from overrevving. Theengine will resume running normally after the engine speed isreduced below the red zone.
The tachometer shows the engine speed in thousands of revolutions perminute. Outside temperature indicator (if equipped)
The outside temperature indicator shows the outside temperature in a
range from –22°F to 122 °F ( –30 °C to 50 °C).
The indicator can give a false reading under any of the following condi-tions: When there is too much sun.
During idling; while running at low speeds in a traffic jam; when the
engine is restarted immediately following a shutdown. When the actual outside temperature falls outside the specified indi-
cator range.

The temporary spare tire is smaller and lighter than a conventional tire
and is designed for emergency use only. Remove the temporary spare
tire and re-install the conventional tire as soon as possible because the
spare tire is designed only for temporary use.
Check the inflation pressure of the temporary spare tire periodically to
keep the tire ready for use. The correct pressure is 60 psi (420 kPa, 4.2
kg/cm 2
).
When using the temporary spare tire, note the following: Do not exceed 50 mph (80 km/h).
Do not put a tire chain on the temporary spare tire. Because of the
smaller tire size, a tire chain will not fit properly. Do not use two or more temporary spare tires at the same time.
Do not drive over obstacles. This tire has a smaller diameter, so
road clearance is reduced. When the wear indicator appears on the tread, replace the tire.

NOTE [Automatic transmission vehicle] Before driving your vehicle with the temporary spare tire, put a spare fuse inside the FWD connectorlocated in the engine compartment and confirm that the Front-wheeldrive warning light comes on. The all wheel drive capability of the
vehicle has now been deactivated. After re-installing the convention-al tire, remove the spare fuse from the FWD connector in order to
reactivate all wheel drive.

controlled to operate when the engine coolant reaches a specific tem-
perature.If the radiator cooling fan does not operate even when the engine
coolant temperature gauge exceeds the normal operating range, the
cooling fan circuit may be defective. Check the fuse and replace it if
necessary. If the fuse is not blown, have the cooling system checked
by your SUBARU dealer.
If frequent addition of coolant is necessary, there may be a leak in the
engine cooling system. It is recommended that the cooling systemand connections be checked for leaks, damage, or looseness.
Engine coolant Checking the coolant level
Check the coolant level at each fuel stop.

1. Check the coolant level on the outside of the reservoir while the
engine is cool.
2. If the level is close to or lower than the “LOW” level mark, add
coolant up to the “FULL” level mark. If the reserve tank is empty, re-
move the radiator cap and refill as required.

It is unnecessary to periodically check the battery fluid level or periodi-
cally refill with distilled water. Fuses
CAUTION
Never replace a fuse with one having a higher rating or with mate-
rial other than a fuse because serious damage or a fire could re-sult.

The fuses are designed to melt during an overload to prevent damage to
the wiring harness and electrical equipment. The fuses are located intwo fuse boxes. One is located under the instrument panel behind the
coin tray on the driver’s seat side. The other one is housed in the engine
compartment. The fuse puller and spare fuses are stored in the main
fuse box cover in the engine compartment.
If any lights, accessories or other electrical controls do not operate, in-
spect the corresponding fuse. If a fuse has blown, replace it.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the
“LOCK” position and turn off all electri-
cal accessories.
2. Remove the cover.(For behind the coin tray: open the coin tray and pull it horizontally to
remove it.)
3. Determine which fuse may be blown. The back side of each fuse boxcover and the “Fuse and circuits ” section in chapter 12 in this manual
show the circuit for each fuse.

4. Pull out the fuse with the fuse puller.
5. Inspect the fuse. If it has blown, replace it with a spare fuse of thesame rating.
6. If the same fuse blows again, this indicates that its system has a
problem. Contact your SUBARU dealer for repairs.

Main fuse

The main fuses are designed to melt during an overload to prevent dam-
age to the wiring harness and electrical equipment. Check the main
fuses if any electrical component fails to operate (except the starter mo-
tor) and other fuses are good. A melted main fuse must be replaced.
Use only replacements with the same specified rating as the melted
main fuse. If a main fuse blows after it is replaced, have the electrical
system checked by your nearest SUBARU dealer.
Installation of accessories
Always consult your SUBARU dealer before installing fog lights or any other electrical equipment in your vehicle. Such accessories may cause
the electronic system to malfunction if they are incorrectly installed or if
they are not suited for the vehicle.
