2. Re-p rog ram the remaining transmitters as d esc rib e d in step 4.
If there is only one remaining transmitter, p erform step 4 four
times .
If there are two remaining transmitters, p erform st ep 4 twice for
eac h transmitter. System maintenance
Your keyless entry system d oes not req uire any sp ec ific maintenanc e
exc ep t for oc c asionally c hang ing the transmitter b a ttery. The 12-volt
b attery in the remote transmitter should last ap p ro ximately one year,
d ep end ing on usag e. When the b attery b eg ins to weak en, you will
notic e a d ec rease in rang e, or the d istanc e from yo ur vehic le that the
remote transmitter will op erate. n To change the remote transmitter battery CAUTION
Do not let dust, oil or water get on or in the transmitter when
replacing the battery.

n Shock Sensor
The shoc k sensor d etec ts any imp ac t to the vehic le. Lig ht imp ac t will
c ause the siren to emit a warning “c hirp ”; heavier b lows will trig g er
the alarm. (Shoc k sensor sensitivity has b een p rese t, b ut may b e
ad justed b y your SUBARU d ealer.) n Personal protection (Panic) feature
Pressing b oth b uttons on the remote transmitter ac t ivates the Panic
feature, sound ing the siren and flashing the vehic l e’s p arking lig hts.
n Interior status indicator
The b rig ht-red warning lig ht p rovid es a visual d ete rrent to a would -b e
thief.n Emergency override button
Ensures that you will b e ab le to d isarm your alarm system and start
your vehic le if your remote transmitter is lost or b roken. See “The
emerg enc y overrid e/p rog ramming b utton ” Sec tion.

The emergency override/programming button

The Emerg enc y Overrid e/Prog ramming b utton is used t o d isarm the
alarm system in c ase of a lost or b roken transmitte r. It is also used in
c onjunc tion with the transmitter and vehic le ig niti on to p rog ram ad d i-
tional transmitters. The Emergency Override Button is located under the driver ’s side
dash beneath the diagnostic connector. Security system operation
IMPORTANT Security System and Keyless Entry Features Do Not Operate
when the Vehicle Ignition is on.

Arming the system

To arm the system, c lose all d oors, then p ress the “LOCK ” b utton. The
siren will “c hirp ” twic e and the p arking lig hts will flash twic e, ind ic at-
ing the system is armed .
The d oors will also loc k at this time. The status i nd ic ator will b link
stead ily, onc e p er sec ond .
If the siren c hirp s and /or the lig hts flash only once, this ind ic ates that
the system is in pre-arm mode. The system has d etec ted that a p ro-
tec ted entranc e is not sec ured . In p re-arm mod e, th e status ind ic ator
stays on and d oes not b link. Chec k to see that all vehic le entranc es
are c losed sec urely. Onc e all entranc es are sec ured , the system will
c hirp /flash ag ain, and the status ind ic ator will b l ink stead ily. The sys-
tem is now fully armed .

Disarming the system

To d isarm the system, p ress and release the “UNLOCK ” b utton. The
siren will c hirp and p arking lig hts will flash once. The d river ’s d oor will
unloc k at this time, and the vehic le interior (d ome ) lig ht will turn on for
60 sec ond s, or until the vehic le is started .
If the siren c hirp s and p arking lig hts flash four times, the system was
trig g ered in your ab senc e. Refer to the “Trip identification ” sec tion in
this manual. n The alarm cycle
If your alarm system is trig g ered , the siren will s ound and the p arking
lig hts will flash for 60 sec ond s. After this d urati on, the system will
c hec k to see if an entranc e was left op en. If so, t he alarm will c ontinue
to sound . If not, the system will re-arm.

Valet Mod e p revents the sec urity system from arming , yet allows all
keyless entry and c onvenienc e features to func tion normally.
The valet b utton is b uilt into the status ind ic ator , loc ated on the d ash
to the left of the steering wheel.
To eng ag e Valet Mod e: With the system d isarmed and the vehic le ig nition o ff, p ress the
Status Ind ic ator/Valet Button. The status ind ic ator will b eg in to emit a q uic k d ou b le-flash p attern.
This ind ic ates that the system is in Valet Mod e. To exit Valet Mod e, p ress the Status Ind ic ator/Vale t Button ag ain.
The status ind ic ator will turn off, ind ic ating the system is in normal
op erating mod e. n Trip identification
If the siren c hirp s four times when you d isarm your sec urity system,
this ind ic ates that the system was trig g ered in you r ab senc e. Before
turning the ig nition on, p erform the following op er ation to d etermine
the p rotec ted zone that trig g ered the system. Op en the vehic le d oor and p ress the Emerg enc y Overr id e/Pro-
g ramming b utton.

Starter interrupt
Starter interrup t is an automatic p roc ed ure. The st arter is d isab led
any time the system is armed , or if the Passive starter interrup t fea-
ture is enab led and the p assive arm time is exp ired . The vehic le also
will not start if p ower is d isc onnec ted from the al arm mod ule.
How starter interrupt works
The alarm system interrup ts the sig nal from the ig n ition key to the
vehic le ’s starter when Starter interrup t is ac tivated . If y ou attemp t to
start the vehic le, the d ash ind ic ator will turn on as usual, b ut the
starter will not “c rank ”, or turn over.
Passive starter interrupt
If the Passive Starter Interrup t op tion has b een ac tivated b y you r
SUBARU d ealer, the starter will b e automatic ally d i sab led one minute
after you turn off the vehic le ig nition, whether or not you arm the sec u-
rity system with your remote transmitter.
Possible situations with starter interrupt or Passive starter inter-
rupt
Passive Starter Interrupt
If you leave the vehic le for a short amount of time , to refuel or g o to
the c ar wash for examp le, always eng ag e the Valet M od e b efore exit-
ing your vehic le. If you forg et to eng ag e Valet Mod e, the Passive
Starter Interrup t will eng ag e and the vehic le will not start when you
return. To enable the vehicle to start, simply press “UNLOCK” on

your remote transmitter, or turn the vehicle ignition to the
“ON”
position and press the Emergency Override/programming button in and release .
If your remote transmitter is lost or b roken and th e Passive Starter
Interrup t has automatic ally eng ag ed , enter the vehi c le, turn the ig ni-
tion to the “ON ” p osition, and p ress the Emerg enc y Overrid e/p ro-
g ramming b utton. This will enab le the vehic le to st art.
In the unlikely event of an alarm system malfunc tio n, your vehic le
may not start. To enab le the vehic le to start, press and hold the
Emergency Override/programming button, and attempt to startthe vehicle while holding the button in .
System maintenance
Your sec urity system d oes not req uire any sp ec ific maintenanc e
exc ep t for oc c asionally c hang ing the transmitter b a ttery. However, it is
sug g ested that the system b e armed and all p rotec te d zones b e
c hec ked ab out onc e a month to make sure that they t rig g er an alarm
c yc le.
To c hang e the remote transmitter b attery, refer to “System mainte-
nanc e ” sec tion und er the head ing of “Keyless entry system ”.
Trouble shooting guide
n If you experience any of the following situations...
Your remote transmitter is lost or broken and your alarm sys-
tem is armed. You attempt to start your vehicle after pressing “UNLOCK” on
your remote transmitter and it does not “crank”.
Perform the following procedure:
1. Use your keys to enter the vehicle. (Depending on your situa-
tion, the alarm may sound when you open the door.)
2. Insert your key into the ignition and turn to the “ON” position.
3. Press and release the Emergency Override Button. The alarm
system will disarm and you will be able to start your vehicle.
4. If your vehicle still will not start, press and HOLD the Emer-gency Override Button in while attempting to start your vehicle.

WARNING
When operating power windows, be extremely careful to pre-
vent anyone ’s fingers, arms or head from being caught in the
window. Always lock the passengers ’ windows using the lock switch
when children are riding in the vehicle. Before leaving the vehicle, always remove the key from the
ignition switch for safety and never allow an unattended child toremain in the vehicle. Failure to follow this procedure could result
in injury to a child operating the power window.

Push the switc h d own until it c lic ks and release it , and the wind ow will
fully op en. To stop the wind ow halfway, p ull the sw itc h up slig htly.
Push the switc h d own lig htly and hold it. The wind o w will op en as long
as the switc h is held .
Pull the switc h up lig htly and hold it. The wind ow will c lose as long as
the switc h is held . n To open or close the passengers ’ windows
To op en the p asseng ers ’ wind ows, p ush the ap p rop riate switc h d own
and hold it until the wind ow reac hes the d esired p o sition. To c lose the
wind ow, p ull the switc h up and hold it until it rea c hes the d esired p osi-
tion. n To lock the passengers ’ windows

switc h is in the “LOCK ” p osition, the p asseng ers ’ wind ows c annot b e
