The fog lig hts op erate only when the head lig hts are
on low b eam.
Push the fog lig ht switc h to turn the fog lig hts on .
Press the switc h ag ain to turn them off.

The ind ic ator lig ht loc ated on the switc h will illu minate when the fog
lig hts are on.
Wiper and washer
WARNING
In freezing weather, do not use the windshield washer until the
windshield is sufficiently warmed by the defroster.Otherwise the washer fluid can freeze on the windshield, blocking
your view.
CAUTION
Do not operate the washer continuously for more than ten se-
conds, or when the washer fluid tank is empty. This may cause
overheating of the washer motor. Check the washer fluid level fre-
quently, such as at fuel stops.

ve any snow from the
wind shield . To turn on the wind shield wip er d eic er, p ush the switc h. The
ind ic ator lig ht loc ated on the switc h lig hts up whi le the wind shield wip er
d eic er is op erating .
The wind shield wip er d eic er will automatic ally shut off after ab out 15 min-
utes. If the wip er b lad es have b een d eic ed c omp lete ly b efore that time,
p ush the switc h to turn it off. It also turns off w hen the ig nition switc h is
turned to the “ACC ” or “LOCK ” p osition. If d eic ing is not c omp lete when
you restart your vehic le, you have to p ush the swit c h to turn the d eic er
on ag ain. Rear window defogger switch
CAUTION
Do not use sharp instruments or window cleaner containing
abrasives to clean the inner surface of the rear window. They may
damage the conductors printed on the window. To prevent the battery from being discharged, do not operate
the defogger continuously for any longer than necessary.
The rear wind ow d efog g er op erates only when the ig n ition switc h is in
the “ON ” p osition.

p ush the switc h ag ain.
The ind ic ator lig ht loc ated on the switc h is on whi le the outsid e mirror
d efog g er is op eration. The d efog g er will automatic a lly shut off after
ab out 15 minutes. If the mirror c lears b efore that time, p ush the switc h
to turn it off. It also turns off when the ig nition switc h is turned to the
“ ACC ” or “LOCK ” p osition. If d efrosting or d efog g ing is d esired wh en
you restart your vehic le, you have to p ush the swit c h to turn it on
ag ain.
NOTE While the outside mirror defogger is operating, the rear window defogger also operates

Synthetic leather upholstery
The synthetic leather material used on the SUBARU m ay b e c leaned
using mild soap or d eterg ent and water, after first vac uuming or
b rushing away loose d irt. Allow the soap to soak in for a few minutes
and wip e off with a c lean, d amp c loth. Commerc ial f oam-typ e c lean-
ers suitab le for synthetic leather materials may b e used when nec es-
sary. NOTE Strong cleaning agents such as solvents, paint thinners, window
cleaner or gasoline must never be used on leather or syntheticinterior materials.
Cleaning aluminum wheels Promp tly wip e the aluminum wheels c lean of any kind of g rime or
ag ent. If d irt is left on too long , it may b e d iffi c ult to c lean off.
Do not use soap c ontaining g rit to c lean the wheels . Be sure to use a
neutral c leaning ag ent, and later rinse thoroug hly with water. Do not
c lean the wheels with a stiff b rush or exp ose them to a hig h-sp eed wash-
ing d evic e. Clean the vehic le (inc lud ing the aluminum wheels) w ith water as soon
as p ossib le when it has b een sp lashed with sea wate r, exp osed to sea
b reezes, or d riven on road s treated with salt or ot her ag ents.
Cleaning fog light lens
If the fog lig ht p rotec tor oug ht to b e removed for c leaning the fog lig ht
lens, follow then the instruc tion g iven in “Fog lig ht ” sec tion (Rep lac ing
b ulb s) und er Chap ter 10.
When c leaning the fog lig ht lens, p ark the vehic le on a safe p lac e, stop
the eng ine and c onfirm that the fog lig ht lens is n ot hot b efore p roc eed -
ing with the work.

CAUTION
Halogen light bulbs become very hot while in use. If you touch the bulb surface with bare hands or greasy gloves, finger prints
or grease on the bulb surface develop into hot spots, causing thebulb to break. If there are finger prints or grease on the bulb sur-face, wipe them away with a soft cloth moistened with alcohol.
To remove and install the fog light protector

1. Unhook the lower p art of the fog lig ht p rotec tor b y p ulling the hook
d own.
2. Pull the p rotec tor to remove it.
3. To install the p rotec tor, first insert the up p er p art of the p rotec tor
into the g ap b etween the fog lig ht and b od y, then p ush the lower p art
of the p rotec tor until it c lic ks.
4. Make sure that the p rotec tor is loc ked in p lac e b y p ulling it lig htly.

2. Remove the fog lig ht assemb ly b y removing the two sc rews.
3. Disc onnec t the c onnec tor.
4. Remove the fog lig ht b ulb b y turning it c ounterc l oc kwise.
5. Rep lac e the b ulb with a new one. Then rec onnec t t he c onnec tors
and reinstall the removed p arts in the reverse ord e r of removal.
