CAUTION
Do not use excessive force or sharp objects to activate the
switches. Do not spray cleaner directly on the dome light lens or the
switches. Remove the lens and use a damp cloth to clean the switch sur-
faces.

Dome light
ON mode: Pressing the “ON ” switc h 7 will turn on main d ome lig ht.
DOOR mode: Pressing the “DOOR ” switc h 6 will allow all three lig hts
to fully illuminate when d oor is op ened and then fa d e out onc e d oor is

Green indicates current switch while the other switches will be
Red . (Map light switches will be Yellow regardless of setting).
Switch indicator lights will shut off when not in use, but will
come back on when any switches are touched. The light assembly is equipped with a time delayed-off feature.
The lights will remain on for a few seconds after all vehicle doorsare closed. If a map light is in use and the door is opened, the map light
will maintain its current setting even after the door is closed. The light assembly is equipped with a 1 hour sleep mode timer
that will turn off any light that may be accidentally left on. Touch-ing any switch will reactivate the unit and allow for continued op-
eration.

To install the cover housing
1. Pull either sleeve on the end of the c over housin g to shorten the
c over ’s leng th.
2. Insert the p rojec tions loc ated on the b oth end s o f the sleeve into
the rec esses of the retainers.
Shopping bag hook (Wagon only)

The shop p ing b ag hook is attac hed to the left sid e of the c arg o area. You
c an hook a lig ht shop p ing b ag or something similar on it.
Cargo anchorage eyelets (if equipped)
CAUTION
The cargo anchorage eyelets are designed only for securing light cargo. Never try to secure the cargo which weights more than theload capacity of the anchorage eyelets. The maximum load
capacity is about 44 lbs (20 kg) per eyelet.

When you feel the ABS system operating, you should maintain
constant brake pedal pressure. Do not pump the brake pedal
since doing so may defeat the operation of the ABS system.
The ABS system p revents the loc k-up of wheels whic h may oc c ur d uring
sud d en b raking or b raking on slip p ery road surfac es . This help s p revent
the loss of steering c ontrol and d irec tional stab il ity c aused b y wheel
loc k-up .
When the ABS system is op erating , you may hear a c h attering noise or
feel a slig ht vib ration in the b rake p ed al. This is normal when the ABS
op erates.
The ABS system will not op erate when the vehic le sp eed is b elow
ap p roximately 6 mp h (10 km/h).
ABS system self-checking
You may feel a slig ht shoc k in the b rake p ed al and hear the op erating
sound of ABS from the eng ine c omp artment just after the vehic le is
started . This is c aused b y an automatic func tional test of the ABS sys-
tem b eing c arried out and d oes not ind ic ate any ab n ormal c ond ition.
ABS warning light

The ABS warning lig ht c omes on when the ig nition sw itc h is turned to
the “ON ” p osition and g oes out after ab out two sec ond s.
This is an ind ic ation that the ABS system is workin g p rop erly.

working p rop erly. The warning lig ht d oes not c ome on when the ig nitio n switc h is
turned to the “ON ” p osition.
The warning lig ht c omes on when the ig nition switc h is turned to
the “ON ” p osition, b ut it d oes not g o out even when the veh ic le sp eed
exc eed s ap p roximately 8mp h (12km/h). The warning lig ht c omes on d uring d riving .
When the warning lig ht is on, the ABS func tion shut s d own; however,
the c onventional b rake system c ontinues to op erate normally. If this
oc c urs, have the ABS system rep aired at the first a vailab le op p ortuni-
ty b y your SUBARU d ealer. NOTE
If the warning light behavior is as described below, the ABS sys- tem may be considered normal. The warning light comes on right after the engine is started
but goes out immediately, remaining off. The warning light remains on after the engine has been
started, but it goes out when the vehicle speed reaches about 8mph (12 km/h). The warning light comes on during driving, but it goes out
immediately and remains off.
When d riving with an insuffic ient b attery voltag e s uc h as when the en-
g ine is jump started , the ABS warning lig ht may c om e on. This is d ue
to the low b attery voltag e and d oes not ind ic ate a malfunc tion. When
the b attery b ec omes fully c harg ed , the lig ht will g o out.

Trailer lights CAUTION
Direct splicing or other improper connection may damage your
vehicle’ s electrical system and cause a malfunction of your ve-
hicle lighting system.
Consult your authorized SUBARU d ealer c onc erning th e c onnec tion
of wires for trailer lig hts. Chec k for c orrec t op er ation of the turn sig -
nals and b rake lig hts and p arking lig hts eac h time you hitc h up .
Side mirrors
After hitc hing a trailer to your vehic le, c hec k tha t the stand ard sid e
mirrors p rovid e a g ood rearward field of view witho ut sig nific ant b lind
sp ots. If sig nific ant b lind sp ots oc c ur with the ve hic le’s stand ard sid e
mirrors, use towing mirrors that c onform with Fed er al, state/p rovinc e
and /or other ap p lic ab le reg ulations. Tires
WARNING
Never tow a trailer when the temporary spare tire is used. The temporary spare tire is not designed to sustain the towing load.
Use of the temporary spare tire when towing can result in failureof the spare tire and/or less stability of the vehicle and may leadto an accident.
Make sure that all the tires on your vehic le are p r op erly inflated to the
p ressure sp ec ified on the tire p lac ard loc ated on t he left c enter p illar
of your vehic le.

Jump starting
WARNING
Battery fluid is SULFURIC ACID. Do not let it come in contact
with the eyes, skin, clothing or the vehicle. If battery fluid gets on you, thoroughly flush the exposed area
with water immediately. Get medical help if the fluid has enteredyour eyes.If battery fluid is accidentally swallowed, immediately drink a
large amount of milk or water, and obtain immediate medicalhelp.
Keep everyone including children away from the battery. The gas generated by a battery explodes if a flame or spark is
brought near it. Do not smoke or light a match while jump start-ing. Never attempt jump starting if the discharged battery is frozen.
It could cause the battery to burst or explode. Whenever working on or around a battery, always wear suit-
able eye protectors, and remove metal objects such as rings,
bands or other metal jewelry. Be sure the jumper cables and clamps on them do not have
loose or missing insulation.Do not jump start unless cables in suitable condition are avail-able. A running engine can be dangerous. Keep your fingers, hands,
clothing, hair and tools away from the cooling fan, belts and anyother moving engine parts. Removing rings, watches and ties isadvisable.
CAUTION
The battery used for boosting must be 12V. Do not jump start un-
less you are sure that the booster battery is correct.
