(If your vehicle is AWD with automatic transmission) Before
driving your vehicle with the temporary spare tire, put a spare fuse inside the FWD connector in the main fuse box located inthe engine compartment and confirm that the Front-wheel drivewarning light comes on. The all wheel drive capability of the ve-
hicle has now deactivated. After re-installing the conventionaltire, remove the spare fuse from the FWD connector in order to
reactivate all wheel drive.

Exterior care
Washing
CAUTION
When washing the vehicle, the brakes may get wet. As a result,
the brake stopping distance will be longer. To dry the brakes, drive the vehicle at a safe speed while lightly pressing the brakepedal to heat up the brakes. Do not wash the engine compartment and areas adjacent to it.
If water enters electrical parts or the power steering fluid reser-
voir, it will cause engine trouble or faulty power steering respec-
tively.
The b est way to p reserve your vehic le ’s b eauty is freq uent washing .
Wash the vehic le at least onc e a month to avoid c on tamination b y road
g rime.
Wash d irt off with a wet sp ong e and p lenty of lukew arm or c old water. Do
not wash the vehic le with hot water and in d irec t s unlig ht.
Salt, c hemic als, insec ts, tar, soot and b ird d rop p i ng s should b e washed
off b y using a lig ht d eterg ent, as req uired . If you use a lig ht d eterg ent,
make c ertain that it is a neutral d eterg ent. Do not use strong soap or
c hemic al d eterg ents. All c leaning ag ents should b e p romp tly flushed
from the surfac e and not allowed to d ry there. Rins e the vehic le thor-
oug hly with p lenty of lukewarm water. Wip e the rema ining water off with a
c hamois or soft c loth. NOTE When having your vehicle washed in an automatic car wash, make
sure beforehand that the car wash is of suitable type. If the vehicle
is equipped with a rear spoiler, it may be damaged by the brush, etc.

FMVSS No. 116, fresh DOT 3 or 4 brake fluid
Brake booster
If the b rake b ooster d oes not op erate as d esc rib ed b elow, have it
c hec ked b y your SUBARU d ealer.
1. With the eng ine off, d ep ress the b rake p ed al seve ral times, ap p lying
the same p ed al forc e eac h time. The d istanc e the p e d al travels should
not vary.
2. With the b rake p ed al d ep ressed , start the eng ine. The p ed al should
move slig htly d own to the floor.
3. With the b rake p ed al d ep ressed , stop the eng ine a nd keep the p ed al
p ressed for 30 sec ond s. The p ed al heig ht should not c hang e.
4. Start the eng ine ag ain and run for ab out one minu te then turn it off.
Dep ress the b rake p ed al several times to c hec k the b rake b ooster.
Brake b ooster op erates p rop erly if the p ed al stroke d ec reases with eac h
d ep ression. Battery
WARNING
Before beginning work on or near any battery, be sure to extin-
guish all cigarettes, matches, and lighters. Never expose a bat- tery to an open flame or electric sparks. Batteries give off a gaswhich is highly flammable and explosive. For safety, in case an explosion does occur, wear eye protec-
tion or shield your eyes when working near any battery. Never
lean over a battery. Do not let battery fluid contact eyes, skin, fabrics, or paint be-
cause battery fluid is a corrosive acid. If battery fluid gets on yourskin or in your eyes, immediately flush the area with water thor-
oughly. Seek medical help immediately if acid has entered the

Headlight
CAUTION
Halogen headlight bulbs become very hot while in use. If you touch the bulb surface with bare hands or greasy gloves, fingerprints or grease on the bulb surface develop into hot spots, caus-ing the bulb to break. If there are finger prints or grease on thebulb surface, wipe them away with a soft cloth moistened with al-cohol.

2. Remove the retainer sp ring .
3. Rep lac e the b ulb , then set the retainer sp ring se c urely.

the elec tric al c onnec tor.

1. Remove the p arking lig ht assemb ly mounting sc rew loc ated at the top
of the head lig ht assemb ly using the p hillip s sc rewd river.
2. Move the p arking lig ht assemb ly forward until it p op s out from the
fend er.
3. Remove the b ulb hold er from the p arking lig ht ass emb ly b y turning it
c ounterc loc kwise.
4. Pull the b ulb out of the soc ket. Install a new b u lb .
5. Set the b ulb hold er into the p arking lig ht assemb ly and turn it c loc k-
wise until it loc ks.
6. Set the p arking lig ht assemb ly into the fend er. T ig hten the mounting
sc rew.

1. Remove the b olt sec uring the front turn sig nal li g ht assemb ly.
2. Remove the front turn sig nal lig ht assemb ly from the front b ump er
and remove the b ulb soc ket b y turning it c ounterc lo c kwise.
3. Remove the b ulb from the soc ket b y p ushing it in and turning
c loc kwise, then install a new b ulb .
4. Install the removed p arts in the reverse ord er of removal.
Type B

1. Remove the front turn sig nal lig ht assemb ly mount ing sc rews using
the p hillip s sc rewd river.
2. Remove the lens from the front turn sig nal lig ht assemb ly.

4. Reinstall the lens to the front turn sig nal lig ht assemb ly and tig hten
the mounting sc rews.

1. Pull the left sid e of the turn sig nal lig ht assem b ly while moving it for-
ward in relation to the vehic le.
2. Remove the b ulb hold er from the sid e turn sig nal lig ht assemb ly b y
turning it c ounterc loc kwise.
3. Pull the b ulb out of the soc ket. Install a new b u lb .
4. Set the b ulb hold er into the sid e turn sig nal lig ht assemb ly and turn it
c loc kwise until it loc ks.
5. Reinstall the sid e turn sig nal lig ht assemb ly on the sid e of the front
fend er.
