n Locking the doors
Press the “LOCK ” b utton to loc k all d oors (and the rear g ate on the
wag on and OUTBACK SPORT). The p arking lig hts will f lash one time.
n Unlocking the doors
To unloc k the d river ’s d oor only, p ress and release the “UNLOCK ” b ut-
ton.
To unloc k all d oors (and the rear g ate on the wag on and OUTBACK
SPORT), p ress and hold the “UNLOCK ” b utton.
The p arking lig hts will flash one time.
The vehic le ’s interior (c ourtesy) lig ht will illuminate for 60 sec ond s or
until vehic le is started .
NOTE
1. Parking lights will flash when the vehicle ’s battery is discon-
nected and reconnected.
To stop lights from flashing, either: Press remote transmitter “UNLOCK” button once.
Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position and press pro-
gramming button for one second (see location below).
2. The vehicle ’s interior (courtesy) light and door open warning
light (DOOR AJAR indicator) will illuminate for 60 seconds when
the ignition is turned off, or until the doors are locked with the

3. The instrument panel lights will flash when the parking lightsflash.
4. Your SUBARU Keyless Entry System is equipped with tworemote transmitters.
Programming button location
HS1001BB
The Programming Button is located under the driver ’s side dash
beneath the diagnostic connector. Adding or deleting remote transmitters
Up to four (4) transmitters c an b e p rog rammed to yo ur keyless entry
system. NOTE
Make sure no one else is operating another keyless entry or security system within range of your vehicle when you are pro-gramming remote transmitters. Another transmitter code couldbe inadvertently “learned” by your system, allowing someone
unauthorized access to your vehicle. n To program an additional transmitter
1. Op en the d river ’s d oor.
2. Turn the vehic le ig nition to the “ON ” p osition.
3. Press and hold the Prog ramming b utton in. After ap p roximately 15 sec ond s, the d oor loc ks will c yc le 3 times.

Mod e. Do not release the Programming button.
4. Press the “LOCK ” b utton on the new transmitter. The d oor loc ks will
c yc le onc e.
5. Rep eat step 4 for any ad d itional transmitters.
6. Exit the Transmitter Prog ram Mod e b y releasing th e Prog ramming
b utton and turning the vehic le ig nition off. Test a ll remote transmitters
to ensure that they work p rop erly. n To delete a lost or stolen transmitter
1. Follow step 1 to 3 as d esc rib ed ab ove.
2. Re-p rog ram the remaining transmitters as d esc rib e d in step 4.
If there is only one remaining transmitter, p erform step 4 four
times .
If there are two remaining transmitters, p erform st ep 4 twice for
eac h transmitter. System maintenance
Your keyless entry system d oes not req uire any sp ec ific maintenanc e
exc ep t for oc c asionally c hang ing the transmitter b a ttery. The 12-volt
b attery in the remote transmitter should last ap p ro ximately one year,
d ep end ing on usag e. When the b attery b eg ins to weak en, you will
notic e a d ec rease in rang e, or the d istanc e from yo ur vehic le that the
remote transmitter will op erate. n To change the remote transmitter battery CAUTION
Do not let dust, oil or water get on or in the transmitter when
replacing the battery.

1. Remove the p hillip s sc rew on the b ac k of the remo te transmitter
c ase. Use a small c oin to sep arate the c ase halves and exp ose the
b attery.
2. Remove the old b attery and rep lac e with typ e GP-2 3A or eq uiva-
lent.
3. Close the transmitter c ase and rep lac e the sc rew.
Security system (if equipped) How the security system protects your vehicle
n Starter interrupt
The vehic le ’s starter is d isab led when the system is armed with your
remote transmitter. n Passive starter interrupt (if selected)
The vehic le starter is automatic ally d isab led one m inute after the ig ni-
tion is turned off, even if the system has not been armed with your
remote transmitter . (This op tion may b e ac tivated b y your SUBARU
d ealer for an ad d itional c harg e.) NOTE
If the Passive Starter Interrupt Option is enabled on your system, pay special attention to the “Starter interrupt ” section.

n Shock Sensor
The shoc k sensor d etec ts any imp ac t to the vehic le. Lig ht imp ac t will
c ause the siren to emit a warning “c hirp ”; heavier b lows will trig g er
the alarm. (Shoc k sensor sensitivity has b een p rese t, b ut may b e
ad justed b y your SUBARU d ealer.) n Personal protection (Panic) feature
Pressing b oth b uttons on the remote transmitter ac t ivates the Panic
feature, sound ing the siren and flashing the vehic l e’s p arking lig hts.
n Interior status indicator
The b rig ht-red warning lig ht p rovid es a visual d ete rrent to a would -b e
thief.n Emergency override button
Ensures that you will b e ab le to d isarm your alarm system and start
your vehic le if your remote transmitter is lost or b roken. See “The
emerg enc y overrid e/p rog ramming b utton ” Sec tion.

The Status Ind ic ator is a hig h intensity warning li g ht, loc ated on the
d ash to the left of the steering wheel. The Status Ind ic ator d isp lays a
visual ind ic ation of the sec urity system ’s status while c reating a p ow-
erful theft d eterrent. LED status Off: System is d isarmed .
Double-Flash: System is in valet mod e.
Steady Flash: System is armed .
Fast Flash: System has b een trig g ered .
On: System is in p re-arm state (and will arm when all d oors are
c losed ). n The valet button (built into the status indicator)
The Valet Button is used to eng ag e Valet Mode (see “Valet mod e ”
Sec tion). In Valet Mod e, the sec urity system will n ot arm, throug h the
siren will c hirp and keyless entry features will fu nc tion when the sec u-
rity system is d isarmed .

The emergency override/programming button

The Emerg enc y Overrid e/Prog ramming b utton is used t o d isarm the
alarm system in c ase of a lost or b roken transmitte r. It is also used in
c onjunc tion with the transmitter and vehic le ig niti on to p rog ram ad d i-
tional transmitters. The Emergency Override Button is located under the driver ’s side
dash beneath the diagnostic connector. Security system operation
IMPORTANT Security System and Keyless Entry Features Do Not Operate
when the Vehicle Ignition is on.

Arming the system

To arm the system, c lose all d oors, then p ress the “LOCK ” b utton. The
siren will “c hirp ” twic e and the p arking lig hts will flash twic e, ind ic at-
ing the system is armed .
The d oors will also loc k at this time. The status i nd ic ator will b link
stead ily, onc e p er sec ond .
If the siren c hirp s and /or the p arking lig hts flash only once, this ind i-
c ates that the system is in pre-arm mode. The system has d etec ted
that a p rotec ted entranc e is not sec ured . In p re-ar m mod e, the status
ind ic ator stays on and d oes not b link. Chec k to see that all vehic le
entranc es are c losed sec urely. Onc e all entranc es a re sec ured , the
system will c hirp /flash ag ain, and the status ind ic ator will b link
stead ily. The system is now fully armed .

Disarming the system

To d isarm the system, p ress and release the “UNLOCK ” b utton. The
siren will c hirp and p arking lig hts will flash once. The d river ’s d oor will
unloc k at this time, and the vehic le interior (d ome ) lig ht will turn on for
60 sec ond s, or until the vehic le is started .
If the siren c hirp s and p arking lig hts flash four times, the system was
trig g ered in your ab senc e. Refer to the “Trip identification ” sec tion in
this manual. n The alarm cycle
If your alarm system is trig g ered , the siren will s ound and the p arking
lig hts will flash for 60 sec ond s. After this d urati on, the system will
c hec k to see if an entranc e was left op en. If so, t he alarm will c ontinue
to sound . If not, the system will re-arm.

Personal protection alarm (Panic)

Pressing b oth b uttons tog ether on the remote transm itter ac tivates the
Panic feature, sound ing the siren and flashing the p arking lig hts.
Panic is d esig ned to b ring attention to the vehic le and surround ing
area. Press either b utton on the transmitter to tur n off the Panic alarm.
n Disarming the security system in the event of a lost or broken transmitter

If your remote transmitter fails to op erate, the sy stem c an b e d is-
armed using the Emerg enc y Overrid e/Prog ramming b utt on. Follow
the p roc ed ure b elow:
1. Enter the vehic le. The alarm will sound when the d oor is op ened .
2. Insert the ig nition key and turn to the “ON ” p osition.
