tween 9.05 kg (20 lb .) and 18.09 kg (40 lb .), whose heig ht is 110 c m
(44.3 in.) or less, who are c ap ab le of sitting up ri g ht alone and whose
should er heig ht is b elow the should er b elt slot.
The c hild should also b e at least one year old . It is imp ortant to use a
rear-fac ing c hild restraint until the c hild is ab ou t a year old . A rear-fac ing
restraint g ives the c hild ’s head , nec k and b od y the sup p ort they would
need in a c ollision. See the “Child restraint systems ” sec tion in this
manual.
WARNING
Do not use the built-in child restraint for infants who require a rear-facing child restraint. In an accident, serious crippling injuryor death could result if the built-in restraint is used for the infant.
If the c hild exc eed s the maximum weig ht and heig ht c ap ac ities of the
b uilt-in c hild restraint (maximum weig ht of 18.09 k g (40 lb .) and maxi-
mum heig ht of 110 c m (44.3 in.)), d o not use the b u ilt-in c hild restraint.
The c hild should use either the vehic le ’s seatb elts or an ap p roved after-
market b ooster seat, if nec essary.
The b uilt-in c hild restraint system c onforms to Fed eral Motor Vehic le
Safety Stand ard No. 213 and Canad a Motor Vehic le Sa fety Stand ard No.
213.4.
Ac c ord ing to ac c id ent statistic s, c hild ren are safe r when p rop erly re-
strained in the rear seating p osition than in the f ront seating p osition.
Child ren ag ed 12 and und er should not sit in the fr ont seat of a c ar
eq uip p ed with a p asseng er ’s SRS airb ag .
WARNING
Make sure the child is securely restrained with the built-in
child restraint. Failure to follow the manufacturer ’s instructions on the use of
this child restraint system can result in your child striking the ve-
hicle’ s interior during a sudden stop or crash.

Snugly adjust the belts provided with this child restraint
around your child. The built-in child restraint should be used for only one child at
a time. Using it for two or more children at the same time couldresult in serious injury or death in an accident. Do not use the center lap and shoulder belt with the child re-
straint. A child using the center seatbelt could slide forward andout from under the seatbelt in a sudden stop or an accident, re-sulting in serious injury to the child.

WARNING
Do not use another child restraint system over the opened
built-in child restraint. Because a child restraint system cannot be secured on the built-in restraint cushion, the restraint could
fall down during sudden braking, a sharp turn or in an accident,
causing serious injury to the child in it. Always keep the child restraint equipped rear seatback locked
securely in place when the child restraint is in use. Otherwise, inan accident, serious injury or death to a child could result if the
seatback falls down. The built-in child restraint, especially metallic parts, can be-
come hot in a vehicle that has been closed up in sunny weather;they could burn a small child. Check the child restraint beforeyou place a child in it.

CAUTION
Be careful not to damage the belt webbing or hardware. Take care that they do not get caught or pinched in the seatback.

Placing a child in the built-in child restraint
1. Before using the b uilt-in c hild restraint, make s ure the vehic le’s rear
seatb ac k is loc ked sec urely in p lac e.

Chec k the c hild ’s size and weig ht to b e sure the c hild is not too s mall

6. Press the removab le p ad ag ainst the hook and loop fasteners
(Velc ro ) and install the p ad to the seatb ac k. Make sure th e b elts g o
throug h the slots in the p ad .
WARNING
If you remove the removable pad for cleaning or other purposes,
do not use the built-in child restraint. If an accident occurs, the
absence of the pad can increase the risk or severity of injury tothe child.

7. Sit the c hild on the c hild restraint.

c hild ’s should er. Insert the tong ue p late into the b uc kle until it c lic ks.
If b oth sid es of the b elt are p ulled out, the b elts will loc k. If the b elts
loc k, allow them to fully retrac t to unloc k the ret rac tor. Then p ull out
only one sid e of the b elt.
9. Pull out the other sid e of lap -should er b elt and p lac e it over the
c hild ’s should er in a sing le motion. Insert the tong ue p l ate into the
b uc kle until it c lic ks. Onc e the b elt retrac ts even slig htly, the ALR will
b e ac tivated and b oth b elts will loc k.
If the b elt stop s b efore the tong ue reac hes the b uc kle, allow b oth
b elts to fully retrac t to unloc k the retrac tor and then sep arately p ull out
the b elts and b uc kle them ag ain.
10. Allow b oth b elts to tig hten snug ly ag ainst the c hild’s should ers.
Bec ause of the ALR func tion, the b elts c annot b e p u lled out simulta-
neously from the retrac tor.
The c olor g reen must ap p ear in the ind ic ator wind ow on eac h tong ue
when b uc kled . If the c olor red ap p ears in the wind o w, the tong ue is
not b uc kled .
WARNING
After inserting the tongue plates, make sure the tongue plates and buckle are locked and that the lap-shoulder belts and crotch
belt are not twisted. If the restraint is used with the tongues and
buckle not locked and/or with the belts twisted, the risk or severi-ty of injury to the child could increase in an accident.
CAUTION
If the child restraint belts do not function normally, contact your
authorized SUBARU dealer immediately.

11. Fasten the rig ht and left halves of the c hest c lip at the level of the
c hild ’s armp its. The c olor g reen must ap p ear in the ind ic ator wind ow
when fastened . If the c olor red ap p ears in the wind ow, the c lip is not
sec urely latc hed .
The p urp ose of the c lip is to keep the should er b el ts p ositioned c or-
rec tly on the should ers.
WARNING
An unfastened chest clip will not help keep the belts on the
child’ s shoulders. In a sudden stop or in an accident, the child
may go too far forward and be seriously injured. Make sure thechest clip is fastened at all times.
12. If the b elts are loose, p ull d own on lap p arts of the b elts to take in
the slac k of the lap and should er b elts.
13. Pull the b elts toward you to make sure the b elt b uc kle is p rop erly
fastened and the retrac tor is loc ked .
14. If the b elts b ec ome too tig ht, unb uc kle the b uc kle and allow b oth
b elts to fully retrac t to unloc k the retrac tor, the n reinsert b oth tong ue
p lates.

Storing the built-in child restraint
Always p rop erly store the b uilt-in c hild restraint b efore using the reg u-
lar lap -should er b elt for the rear-c enter seating p osition.

Replacing restraint system parts after a collision
WARNING
Replace the built-in child restraint equipped vehicle seatback as-
sembly if the child restraint was in use during a serious collision.
The built-in restraint may be severely weakened. In a subsequent
accident, it might not be able to provide adequate protection. Theentire assembly should be replaced even if damage is not ob-vious.
Maintenance CAUTION
Keep the belts free of polishes, oils, chemicals and particularly
battery acid as they may weaken the belts. Never attempt to make modifications or changes that will pre-
vent the built-in child restraint from operating properly.

warm water. Do not use household c leaners. They may weaken the
b elts or d amag e p lastic p arts.
Keep the b uilt-in c hild restraint b elts c lean and d ry. Clean the b elts
with only a mild soap and lukewarm water. Never b le ac h or d ye the
b elts b ec ause this c ould seriously affec t their str eng th.
The removab le p ad is attac hed to the c hild restrain t c ushion and seat-
b ac k with hook and loop fasteners (Velc ro ). It is p ossib le to remove
the p ad , hand wash it in c old water and d ry it in t he shad e. Never
b leac h or iron the p ad .
Period ic ally insp ec t the b elts, tong ue p lates, b uc k le, c lip , retrac tor
and anc horag es of the b uilt-in c hild restraint. If these p arts are d am-
ag ed and /or d o not func tion p rop erly, c ontac t your authorized
SUBARU d ealer for rep lac ement p arts.
*SRS airbag (Supplemental Restraint System airbag)
*SRS: This stand s for sup p lemental restraint system . This name is used
b ec ause the airb ag system sup p lements the vehic le ’s seatb elts.
Vehicle with driver ’s and front passenger ’s SRS air-
bags and lap/shoulder restraints
WARNING
To obtain maximum protection in the event of an accident, the
driver and all passengers in the vehicle should always wear seat- belts when the vehicle is moving. The SRS airbag is designed
only as a supplement to the primary protection provided by the
seatbelt. It does not do away with the need to fasten seatbelts. In
combination with the seatbelts, it offers the best combinedprotection in case of a serious accident.Not wearing a seatbelt increases the chance of severe injury ordeath in a crash even when the car has the SRS airbag.
