Automatic climate control system (if equipped) NOTE Operate the automatic climate control system when the engine is
running. When the engine coolant is cold, for instance in cold weather, the
air flows through the windshield defroster outlets and the blowerruns at the lowest speed to prevent cold air from blowing directly
against the driver and front passenger. In the “AUTO” mode, if the air temperature in the passenger
compartment is cooled down to the specified temperature, the air
conditioner compressor stops automatically. For efficient defogging
or dehumidifying in cold weather, press the “A/C” switch on.
Even when cooling is not necessary, setting the temperature
much lower than the current outlet air temperature turns on the airconditioner compressor automatically and the “A/C” indicator light
on the control panel comes on.
The automatic c limate c ontrol system automatic ally c ontrols outlet air
temp erature, fan sp eed , air flow d istrib ution air-i nlet c ontrol, and air c on-
d itioner c omp ressor op eration. It ac tivates when th e “AUTO ” switc h is
p ressed , and is used in c onjunc tion with the Temp er ature c ontrol d ial to
maintain a c onstant, c omfortab le c limate within the p asseng er c omp art-
ment.
The temp erature c an b e set within a rang e of 65 – 85 F (18 – 32 C).
NOTE
The temperature is shown in units of Fahrenheit for US model and in Centigrade for Canadian model.

AUTO mode operation:
The Automatic Climate Control system automatic ally c ontrols the air
temp erature of the p asseng er c omp artment in the AUT O mod e. When
the “AUTO ” switc h is p ressed , the ind ic ator lig ht “AUTO ” on the c on-

flow d istrib ution, air-inlet c ontrol, and air c ond i tioner c omp ressor op -
eration are automatic ally c ontrolled . ECON (economy) mode:
When you p ress the “AUTO ” switc h while the system is in the AUTO
mod e, it selec ts the ECON (ec onomy) mod e, turning o n the

When the Automatic Climate Control system is op erat ing in the AUTO
mod e, p ressing the “

To c hang e the system b ac k to the AUTO mod e, p ress t he “AUTO ”
switc h. n OFF switch
The Automatic Climate Control system turns off (the air c ond itioner

NOTE Setting the light switch to the “p ” or “ a ” position causes the
illuminating icons on the display panel to dim. When traveling with the lights on in gloomy daylight or in twilight, press the OFFswitch for 1 second or longer if you feel it is too hard to identify
the icons clearly. The brightness comes back to normal. n OUT.TEMP switch
To c hec k the outsid e air temp erature, p ush the “OUT.TEMP ” switc h.
The outsid e air temp erature will b e d isp layed for f ive sec ond s, and
then the d isp lay automatic ally c hang es b ac k to the insid e air temp er-

The d isp lay c hang es over from the insid e air temp er ature to the out-
sid e air temp erature as its normal ind ic ation if yo u keep the switc h
p ressed for more than 2 sec ond s.

4-14NOTE
You can check the outside air temperature even when the Au-
tomatic Climate Control is off. (The ignition switch should be in the “ON” position.)
In the following cases, the display can indicate a higher tem-
perature than the actual outside air temperature: – In direct sunlight
– When the vehicle is parked for a long period of time with the
engine kept running.– During stop and go driving
