Tone and balance control (AUDIO)
The volume c ontrol d ial 1 normally func tions as a volume c ontrol.
This d ial b ec omes a c ontrol for Bass, Treb le, Fad er or Balanc e when
you selec t the ap p rop riate tone and b alanc e c ontrol mod e.
Choose d esired volume level for eac h mod e b y turnin g the volume
c ontrol d ial. The c ontrol func tion returns to volum e c ontrol mod e after
ab out 5 sec ond s.
To change control modes: Eac h b rief p ress of the “AUDIO ” b utton
2 c hang es c ontrol mod es in the following seq uenc e st arting from vol-
ume c ontrol mod e. (When the rad io is first turned o n, the c ontrol mod e
is in the volume c ontrol.)

The stereo ind ic ator “ST ” will c ome on when an FM stereo b road c ast
is rec eived . Tuning (TUNE)
n Manual tuning (TUNE)
Press the tuning b utton 4 marked “ ” to inc rease the tuning freq uen-
c y and p ress the tuning b utton marked “ ” to d ec rease it.
Eac h time the b utton is p ressed , the freq uenc y inte rval c an b e
c hang ed b etween 10 kHz in the AM mod e and 0.2 MHz i n the FM
mod e.
Constant p ressure on the b utton c auses a c ontinuous c hang e in the
freq uenc y. n Manual tuning for weather band
When weather b and mod e is selec ted , p ress the tunin g b utton

marked “ ” to c hang e the WB c hannel up and p ress the tuning b ut-
ton marked “ ” to c hang e the WB c hannel d own. Eac h time the b ut-
ton is p ressed , the WB c hannel c hang es to the next c hannel.
Constant p ressure on the b utton c auses a c ontinuous c hang e in the
freq uenc y. n Automatic tuning (SCAN)
Press the “SCAN ” b utton
6 to c hang e the rad io to the SCAN mod e. In
this mod e, the rad io sc ans throug h the rad io b and u ntil a station is
found . The rad io will stop at the station for five sec ond s while d isp lay-
ing the freq uenc y, after whic h sc anning will c ontin ue until the entire
b and has b een sc anned from the low end to the hig h end .

When the “SCAN ” b utton is p ressed for automatic tuning , stations a re
sc anned in the d irec tion of low freq uenc ies to hig h freq uenc ies only.
Automatic tuning may not func tion p rop erly if the s tation rec ep tion is
weakened b y d istanc e from the station or p roximity to tall b uild ing s
and hills. Selecting preset stations
Presetting a station with a “p reset b utton ”
5 allows you to selec t that
station in a sing le op eration. Up to six WB (if eq u ip p ed ), AM, FM1 and
FM2 stations eac h may b e p reset. How to preset stations
1. Press the “BAND ” b utton 3 to selec t FM1, FM2, AM or WB (if
eq uip p ed ) rec ep tion.
2. Press the “SCAN ” b utton or tune the rad io manually until the
d esired station freq uenc y is d isp layed .
3. Press one of the p reset b uttons for more than 2 s ec ond s to store
the freq uenc y. At this time, there will momentarily b e no sound from
the rad io. If the b utton is p ressed for less than 2 sec ond s, the p rec ed -
ing selec tion will remain in memory.
NOTE If the connection between the radio and battery is broken for any
reason such as vehicle maintenance or radio removal, all stationsstored in the preset buttons are cleared. If this occurs, it is neces-sary to reset the preset buttons.

NOTE Only use good quality cassettes (cassettes longer than C-90 are
not recommended). Put cassettes back in their boxes immediately after use to protect
them from dust and dirt and to prevent the tape from unwinding. Never expose cassettes to heat, direct sunlight or moisture.
Clean the tape head (once or twice a month) using a wet-type
cleaning cassette .
Cassette slot
Insert a c assette with the exp osed tap e sid e fac ing to the rig ht. After

Tape travel indicators

b ac k. Program button (PROG)
When the p rog ram b utton Y is p ressed d uring p layb ac k, the tap e
travel ind ic ators will switc h and the p layer will b eg in p laying b ac k the
op p osite sid e of the tap e. The same mec hanism is au tomatic ally ac ti-
vated when the end of the tap e is reac hed . This all ows the op p osite
sid e of the tap e to p lay, p rovid ing c ontinuous p lay b ac k.
Fast-forward button (FF)
To fast-forward the tap e, p ress the “FF ” b utton
E. To stop fast-for-
ward ing , lig htly p ress the “
” 8 b utton.
Rewind button (REW)
To rewind the tap e, p ress the “REW ” b utton R. To stop rewind ing ,
lig htly p ress the “
” 8 b utton.
Eject button (

When “
” b utton 8 is p ressed , p layb ac k stop s and the c assette
tap e is ejec ted .
The ejec tion func tion is also ac tive when the ig nit ion switc h is in the
“ LOCK ” p osition. Always make c ertain that you remove the c assette
tap e. Repeat (RPT)
Press the “RPT ” b utton
W while a song is p laying to p lay the song
rep eated ly. The “RPT ” ind ic ator will c ome on and the song will b e
p layed c ontinuously. To c anc el the rep eat mod e, p re ss the b utton
ag ain. Then the “RPT ” ind ic ator g oes out, and normal p layb ac k mod e
is restored .
