The fog lig hts op erate only when the head lig hts are
on low b eam. Push
the fog lig ht switc h to turn the fog lig hts on.
Press the switc h ag ain to turn them off.

lig hts are on.
Wiper and washer
WARNING
In freezing weather, do not use the windshield washer until the
windshield is sufficiently warmed by the defroster.Otherwise the washer fluid can freeze on the windshield, blocking
your view.
CAUTION
Do not operate the washer continuously for more than ten se-
conds, or when the washer fluid tank is empty. This may cause
overheating of the washer motor. Check the washer fluid level fre-
quently, such as at fuel stops.

Automatic climate control system (if equipped) NOTE Operate the automatic climate control system when the engine is
running. When the engine coolant is cold, for instance in cold weather, the
air flows through the windshield defroster outlets and the blowerruns at the lowest speed to prevent cold air from blowing directly
against the driver and front passenger. In the “AUTO” mode, if the air temperature in the passenger
compartment is cooled down to the specified temperature, the air
conditioner compressor stops automatically. For efficient defogging
or dehumidifying in cold weather, press the “A/C” switch on.
Even when cooling is not necessary, setting the temperature
much lower than the current outlet air temperature turns on the airconditioner compressor automatically and the “A/C” indicator light
on the control panel comes on.
The automatic c limate c ontrol system automatic ally c ontrols outlet air
temp erature, fan sp eed , air flow d istrib ution air-i nlet c ontrol, and air c on-
d itioner c omp ressor op eration. It ac tivates when th e “AUTO ” switc h is
p ressed , and is used in c onjunc tion with the Temp er ature c ontrol d ial to
maintain a c onstant, c omfortab le c limate within the p asseng er c omp art-
ment.
The temp erature c an b e set within a rang e of 65 – 85 F (18 – 32 C).
NOTE
The temperature is shown in units of Fahrenheit for US model and in Centigrade for Canadian model.

energ y-saving op eration. It is therefore rec ommend e d that the AUTO
mod e b e used only in hig h humid ity c ond itions. Manual mode operation:
When the Automatic Climate Control system is op erat ing in the AUTO
mod e, p ressing the “
”, “”, “MODE ”, “A/C ” or

” switc h shifts the op eration into the “MANUAL ” mod e and the
ind ic ator lig ht “AUTO ” on the c ontrol p anel will g o out.
When the “
”, “”, “MODE ”, “A/C ” or “”
switc h is p ressed , the c orresp ond ing func tion c an b e c ontrolled ind e-
p end ently, while automatic c ontrol of the other fun c tions are main-
tained .
To c hang e the system b ac k to the AUTO mod e, p ress t he “AUTO ”
switc h. n OFF switch
The Automatic Climate Control system turns off (the air c ond itioner
c omp ressor and fan turn off) when the “OFF ” switc h is p ressed .
When the “OFF ” switc h is p ressed , the outsid e air introd uc tion mo d e
( “
” p osition) is automatic ally selec ted .
NOTE Setting the light switch to the “p ” or “ a ” position causes the
illuminating icons on the display panel to dim. When traveling with the lights on in gloomy daylight or in twilight, press the OFFswitch for 1 second or longer if you feel it is too hard to identify
the icons clearly. The brightness comes back to normal. n OUT.TEMP switch
To c hec k the outsid e air temp erature, p ush the “OUT.TEMP ” switc h.
The outsid e air temp erature will b e d isp layed for f ive sec ond s, and
then the d isp lay automatic ally c hang es b ac k to the insid e air temp er-
ature.
The d isp lay c hang es over from the insid e air temp er ature to the out-
sid e air temp erature as its normal ind ic ation if yo u keep the switc h
p ressed for more than 2 sec ond s.

You can check the outside air temperature even when the Au-
tomatic Climate Control is off. (The ignition switch should be in the “ON” position.)
In the following cases, the display can indicate a higher tem-
perature than the actual outside air temperature: – In direct sunlight
– When the vehicle is parked for a long period of time with the
engine kept running.– During stop and go driving

Promp tly wip e the aluminum wheels c lean of any kind of g rime or
ag ent. If d irt is left on too long , it may b e d iffi c ult to c lean off.
Do not use soap c ontaining g rit to c lean the wheels . Be sure to use a
neutral c leaning ag ent, and later rinse thoroug hly with water. Do not
c lean the wheels with a stiff b rush or exp ose them to a hig h-sp eed wash-
ing d evic e. Clean the vehic le (inc lud ing the aluminum wheels) w ith water as soon
as p ossib le when it has b een sp lashed with sea wate r, exp osed to sea
b reezes, or d riven on road s treated with salt or ot her ag ents.
Cleaning fog light lens (for OUTBACK)

1. Stop the vehic le in a safe p lac e.
2. Stop the eng ine and turn off the fog lig hts.
3. Chec k that the fog lig hts are not hot. Then, g ras p the p rotec tor and
turn it ap p roximately 10  c ounter-c loc kwise.
4. Pull the p rotec tor off the fog lig ht.
5. Wash the lens with water.
6. Ap p ly the p rotec tor to the lens at an ang le of ap p roximately 10 from

3. Remove the b ulb from the head lig ht assemb ly.
4. Install the new b ulb .
5. Install the b ulb hold er in the head lig ht assemb ly b y turning it c loc k-
wise until it loc ks.
6. Remove the elec tric al c onnec tor.
Front fog light (if equipped)

rep lac e the b ulb s if nec essary. Front turn signal light, parking light and side marker light

semb ly has b een removed and then reinstalled , it ma y b ec ome nec es-
