(d) Check the spark plug electrode gap.
Maximum electrode gap for used spark plug:
1.3 mm (0.051 in.)
If the gap is greater than maximum, replace the spark plug.
Correct electrode gap for new spark plug:
1.0 to 1.1 mm (0.039 to 0.043 in.)
(e) Clean the spark plugs.
If the electrode has traces of wet carbon, clean the electrode
with a spark plug cleaner then dry it.
Air pressure: Blow 588 kPa (6 kgf/cm
2, 85 psi)
Duration: 20 seconds or less
HINT:
If there are traces of oil, remove them with gasoline before using
the spark plug cleaner.
2. INSPECT CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR
(a) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals.
RESISTANCE:
835 to 1,400 at cold
1,060 to 1,645 at hot
NOTICE:
ºColdº and ºHotº mean the temperature of the coils themselves.ºColdº is from ±10C (14F) to 50
C (122 F) and ºHotº is from 50 C (122 F) to 100 C (212 F).
3. INSPECT CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR
(a) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals.
RESISTANCE:
985 to 1,600 at cold
1,265 to 1,890 at hot

SPARK TEST
Replace crankshaft position sensor.
CHECK RESISTANCE OF CAMSHAFT POSITION
1. Turn ignition switch ON.
2. Check that there is battery voltage at ignition coil positive (+) terminal.

1.INSPECT IGNITION COIL (WITH IGNITER) AND SPARK TEST
(a)Check for DTCs.
NOTICE:
If DTC is present, perform a troubleshooting in accordance with a proced\
ure for that DTC.
(b)Check that spark occurs. (1)Remove the cylinder head cover No. 2. (See page 14±6)
(2) Remove the ignition coils (with igniter).
(3) Using a 16mm (0.63 in) plug wrench, remove the spark plugs.
(4) Install the spark plugs to each ignition coil (with igniter) and connect the \
ignition coil connectors.
(5) Disconnect the 4 injector connectors.
(6) Ground the spark plugs.
(7) Check if spark occurs at each spark plug while engine is being cranked.
NOTICE:
Be sure to ground the spark plug when checking.
Replace the ignition coil it is given physical impact.
Do not crank the engine for more than 2 seconds.
If the sparks do not occur, do the following test:

(c)Using a 16 mm (0.63 in.) plug wrench, install the spark plugs. Torque: 18 N m (184 kgf cm, 13 ft lbf)
(d)Install the ignition coil with igniter.
Torque: 9.0 N m (92 kgf cm, 80 in. lbf)
(e)Install the cylinder head cover No. 2. (See page 14±6)

INSPECTION
1. INSPECT SPARK PLUG
(a) Clean the spark plugs.
If the electrode has traces of wet carbon, clean the electrode
with a spark plug cleaner then dry it.
Air pressure: Below 588 kPa (6kg/cm
2, 85 psi)
Duration: 20 seconds or less
(b) Check the spark plug for any damage on its thread and
insulator damage.
If there is damage, replace the spark plug.
Recommended spark plug:
DENSO madeK16R±U11
NGK madeBKR5EYA11
(c) Adjust electrode gap.
Electrode gap: 1.0 to 1.1 mm (0.039 to 0.043 in.)

1. INSPECT SPEEDOMETER
(a) Check the operation.
(1) Using a speedometer tester, inspect the speedometer for acceptable indication error and check
the operation of the odometer.

2. INSPECT OUTPUT SIGNAL OF VEHICLE SPEED
(a) Check for the signal.
(1) While driving the vehicle at the speed of 10 km/h,
check the voltage between the terminal C11±15 of
the combination meter assy and the body ground.
Standard: Fluctuation between 10 to 14 V or less is re-
peated 7 times within 1 sec.
NOTICE:
Check it with the ignition switch ON and the connector con-
nected.

3. INSPECT TACHOMETER
(a) Check the operation
(1) Connect a tune±up test tachometer, and start the engine.
NOTICE:
Reversing the connection of the tachometer will damage the transistors and the insides of the
diodes .
When removing or installing the tachometer, be careful not to drop or subject it to heavy
shocks.
(2) Compare the result of the test with standard indication.

4. INSPECT FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE
(a) Inspect the circuit.
(1) Disconnect the connector from the sender gauge.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to ON, then check the posi-
tion of the receiver gauge needle.
Needle position: EMPTY
(3) Connect the terminal 2 and 3 on the wire harness
side connector of fuel sender gauge.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to ON, then check the posi-
tion of the receiver gauge needle.
Needle position: FULL
5. INSPECT FUEL LEVEL WARNING
(a) Inspect the circuit.
(1) Disconnect the connector from the sender gauge.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to ON, check the fuel level needle indicates EMPTY and fuel level warn-
ing light comes on.
6. INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE RECEIVER GAUGE WARNING LIGHT
(a) Inspect the circuit.
(1) Disconnect the connector from the sender gauge.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to ON, check the position of the water temperature receiver gauge
needle.
Needle position: COOL
(3) Ground the terminal 2 on the wire harness side, then check the position of the water temperature
receiver gauge needle.
Needle position: HOT

7. INSPECT SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT & BUZZER
(a) Check the operation.
(1) Turn the ignition switch to ON and check that the warning light comes on.
(2) Fasten the outer belt to the inner belt and check that the warning light goes out.
(3) Disconnect the connector from the buckle switch and ground the terminal on the wire harness
side connector.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to ON and check that the warning light comes on.
8. INSPECT LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT
(a) Inspect the circuit.
(1) Disconnect the connector from the low oil pressure switch.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(3) Ground the terminal of the wire harness side connector, then check the low oil pressure warning
light.
Low oil pressure warning light: Come on
9. INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT
(a) Inspect the parking brake warning light.
(1) Disconnect the connector from the parking brake switch and ground the terminal on the wire har-
ness side connector.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to ON and check that the warning light comes on.
(b) Inspect the brake fluid level warning light.
(1) Disconnect the connector from the brake fluid level warning switch and connect the terminals
on the wire harness side connector.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to ON and check that the warning light comes on.
10. INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH
(a) Inspect the continuity.
(1) Remove the reservoir tank cap and strainer.
(2) Disconnect the connector.
