OVERHAUL
1.REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL SUB±ASSY UPPER (See page 71±11)
2.REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL UPPER ASSY (See page 71±11)
3.REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSY RR (See page 71±11) 4. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLEASSY
(a) Using a fine screwdriver, separate the cable outer of the transmission control cable assy from the shift lever plate.
(b) Using a screw driver, disconnect the cable end from the floor shift assy.
5. DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT PARKING LOCK CABLE ASSY
(a) Push the claw and disconnect the parking lock cable assy from the shift lock release link.
(b) Using a screw driver, disconnect the parking lock cable assy from the shift lever plate.

6. REMOVE FLOOR SHIFT ASSY
(a) Disconnect the shift lock control ECU connector and indi-
cator lamp wire connector.
(b) Disconnect the wire harness clamp.
(c) Remove the 4 bolts and floor shift assy.
7. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB±ASSY
(a) Remove the floor shift shift lever knob sub±assy.
8. REMOVE FLOOR SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR
HOUSING SUB±ASSY
(a) Remove the floor shift position indicator housing sub±
assy from the floor shift assy.
9. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR LAMP CAP
(a) Separate the indicator lamp wire sub±assy from the posi-
tion indicator light guide.
(b) Remove the floor shift position indicator lamp cap from
the indicator lamp wire.
10. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR LAMP BULB
(a) Remove the floor shift position indicator lamp bulb from the indicator lamp wire.

11. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR LIGHT GUIDE
(a) Using a small screw driver, remove the position indicator
light guide from the position indicator housing UPR.
12. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR SLIDE COVER
(a) Remove the position indicator slide cover from the posi-
tion indicator housing lower.
(b) Remove the position indicator slide cover No.2 from the
position indicator slide cover.
13. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON
(a) Remove the shift lock release button and spring from the
position indicator housing lower.
14. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR HOUSING LOWER
(a) Remove the position indicator housing lower from the
floor shift assy.

15. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR HOUSING LOWER
(a) Install the position indicator housing lower to the floor shift
assy.
16. INSTALL SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON
(a) Apply MP grease to the spring.
(b) Install the shift lock release button and spring.
17. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR SLIDE COVER
(a) Install the position indicator slide cover No.2 to the posi-
tion indicator slide cover.
(b) Install the position indicator slide cover to the position in-
dicator housing lower.
18. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR LIGHT GUIDE
(a) Install the position indicator light guide to the position indi-
cator housing UPR.

19. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR LAMP BULB
(a) Install the floor shift position indicator lamp bulb to the indicator lamp wire.
20. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR LAMP CAP
(a) Install the floor shift position indicator lamp cap to the indi-
cator lamp wire.
(b) Install the indicator lamp wire sub±assy to the position in-
dicator light guide.
21. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR
HOUSING SUB±ASSY
(a) Install the floor shift position indicator housing sub±assy
to the floor shift assy.
22. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB±ASSY
(a) Install the floor shift shift lever knob sub±assy.
23. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT ASSY
(a) Install the floor shift assy with the 4 nuts.
Torque: 12.0 N
m (122 kgf
cm. 9 ft
lbf)
HINT:
Tighten them in the order, A, B, C and D.
(b) Connect the shift lock control ECU connector and indica-
tor lamp wire connector.
(c) Connect the wire harness clamp.
NOTICE:
Be careful not to put the wirings of the indicator lamp or the
shift lock system between the assy and the floor while
installing the floor shift assy.

(d) After installing the shift lever assy, perform the shift lever
operation as following to check its proper function.
(e) Shift into the P position and back to the D position 5 times
with the shift lock releasa button depressed.
24. CONNECT FLOOR SHIFT PARKING LOCK CABLE
ASSY
(a) Using a small screwdriver, unlock the claw of the lock key
of the automatic adjustment part.
(b) Pass the parking lock cable through the hole of the shift
lever plate.
(c) Insert the slide cap into the shift lever plate.
(d) Apply MP grease to the shift lock release link.
(e) Insert the lever pin into the hole in the cable end.
(f) Lock the lock key.
NOTICE:
At this time, the shift lever should be in the P position and
the ignition key should be set to Lock.

25. CONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSY
(a) Install the control cable to the shift lever plate.
(b) Connect the control cable end to the floor shift assy.
HINT:
Install it with the uneven surface facing up.
NOTICE:

Be sure to face up the projection on the cable end to
prevent torsion on the inner cable.

Be sure to face up the projection on the outer cable
while installing the outer cable to the shift lever plate.

Make sure that the ends of the hooks are open while
installing the outer cable to the shift lever plate.

SHIFT LOCK SYSTEM
ON±VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. CHECK SHIFT LOCK OPERATION
(a) Shift the shift lever to P position.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
(c) Check that the shift lever cannot be shifted to any other positions other than P.
(d) Turn the ignition switch to ON, depress the brake pedal and check that the shift lever can be shifted
to any other positions.
2. CHECK SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON OPERATION
(a) Using a screwdriver, remove the shift lock release button cover.
(b) When operating the shift lever with the shift lock release button pressed and turn the ignition switch
to ACC or ON, check that the lever can be shifted to any other position.
3. CHECK KEY INTERLOCK OPERATION
(a) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(b) Depress the brake pedal and shift the shift lever to any other positions other than P.
(c) Check that the ignition key cannot be turned to LOCK.
(d) Shift the shift lever to P position, turn the ignition key to LOCK and check that the ignition key can be
removed.
4. INSPECT SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU
(a) Using a voltmeter, measure the voltage at each terminal.
HINT:
Do not disconnect the shift lock control ECU connector.

(b) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance at the termi-
nal E (8) and body ground.
HINT:
Do not disconnect the shift lock control unit assembly connec-
tor.
