2 INSPECT GLOW PLUG RELAY ASSY
(a) Remove the glow plug relay.
(b) Check for continuity in the glow plug relay.
(1) Check that there is continuity between the termi-
nals.
Standard:
Tester ConnectionSpecified Condition
No continuity
3−4Continuity
(Apply battery voltage to terminals 1 and 2)
1−2Continuity
(c) Reinstall the glow plug relay.
NG REPLACE GLOW PLUG RELAY ASSY
OK
3 INSPECT FUSE(GLOW FUSE)
(a) Remove the GLOW fuse from the R/B No. 3.
(b) Check for continuity in the GLOW fuse.
Standard: Continuity
(c) Reinstall the GLOW fuse.
NG CHECK FOR SHORT IN ALL HARNESS AND
COMPONENTS CONNECTED TO FUSE
OK
4 INSPECT GLOW PLUG ASSY
(a) Disconnect the glow plug wire.
(b) Measure the resistance in the glow plug.
Standard:
Tester ConnectionSpecified Condition
Glow plug terminal−Body groundApproximately 1.1at 20_C (68_F)
NOTICE:
SExercise extreme care not to damage the glow plug
pipes. Damaging them could cause an open circuit, or
shorten the life of the glow plugs.
SKeep the glow plug free of oil and fuel while cleaning.
SWipe any oil off the terminal and Bakelite washer with
a clean−dry cloth during inspection.
SDo not apply more than11V to the glow plug as it
could cause an open circuit.
(c) Reconnect the glow plug wire.

6 CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR(GLOW PLUG RELAY−ECM, AND GLOW
PLUG RELAY−BODY GROUND)
(a) Disconnect the E9 ECM connector.
(b) Remove the glow plug relay.
(c) Check the resistance between the wire harness side con-
nectors.
Standard (Check for open):

(a) Remove the glow plug relay.
(b) Disconnect the glow plug wire.
(c) Check the resistance between the wire harness.
Standard (Check for open):

(d) Reinstall the glow plug relay.
(e) Reconnect the glow plug wire.

ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM THROTTLE BODY ASSY (2AZ−FSE)

REPLACEMENT
1. REMOVE RADIATOR SUPPORT OPENING COVER
(a) Remove the retainer and 4 clips.
(b) Unfasten the 5 claws, then remove the radiator support opening cover.
2. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM COVER SIDE
(a) Remove the 2 clips, then remove the engine room cover side.
3. DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE NO.3 (BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL)
4. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT (See page 16 −7)
5. REMOVE ENGINE COVER SUB −ASSY NO.1
(a) Remove the 2 nuts, then remove the engine cover No. 1.

6. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP SUB−ASSY
(a) Disconnect the mass air flow meter connector.
(b) Disconnect the VSV connector.
(c) Remove the 2 wiring harness clamps.
(d) Disconnect the ventilation hose.
(e) Disconnect the fuel vapor feed hose No. 1.
(f) Disconnect the fuel vapor feed hose No. 2.
(g) Loosen the hose clamp bolt.
(h) Raise the air cleaner clamp up, then the slide it to the air
cleaner cap.
(i) Remove the air cleaner cap together with the air cleaner
hose No. 1.
(j) Remove the air cleaner filter element.
7. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY ASSY
(a) Disconnect the throttle control motor connector.
(b) Remove the bolt.
(c) Unfasten the clip, then remove the wiring harness protec-
tor.
(d) Remove the bolt, then remove the ground terminal.
(e) Remove the 4 bolts, then remove the throttle body brack-
et.
(f) Remove the 4 bolts, then remove the throttle body.
(g) Remove the gasket from the intake manifold.
