To defog or defrost the back window,
push the switch with the back window
closed.
The key must be in the “ON” position.
The thin heater wires on the inside of the
back window will quickly clear the surface.
An indicator light will illuminate to indicate
the defogger is operating.
Push the switch once again to turn the
defoggers off.The system will automatically shut off af-
ter the defogger has operated about 15
minutes. But the defogger operates for
MAX. 240 minutes to deal with the outside
temperature when it is below 0
C (32 F)
and the vehicle speed is 60 km/h (37
mph) or faster.
Make sure you turn the defogger off when
the surfaces are clear. Leaving the defog-
gers on for a long time could cause the
battery to discharge, especially during
stop −and− go driving. The defoggers are
not designed for drying rain water or for
melting snow.
NOTICE
When cleaning the inside of the back
window, be careful not to scratch or
damage the heater wires or connec-
tors.

The air conditioning filter may clog af-
ter long use. The filter may need to be
replaced if the air flow of the air condi-
tioning and heater experiences extreme
reductions in operating efficiency, or if
the windows begin to fog up easily.
To maintain the air conditioning efficiency,
inspect and replace the air conditioning
filter according to the maintenance sched-
ule. In dusty areas or areas with heavy
traffic flow, such as inner city or desert
areas, early replacement may be required.
(For scheduled maintenance information,
please refer to the “Scheduled Mainte-
nance Guide” or “Owner ’s Manual Supple-
ment”.)

The power supply starts a few seconds
after the main switch is pressed.
If the main switch is pressed repeatedly
at short intervals, the indicator light may
remain unchanged, but this does not indi-
cate a malfunction.
When the power outlet is in operation, the
sound of the cooling fan may be heard
from the right side of the luggage
compartment. This is normal and does not
indicate a malfunction.
After removing a plug from the power out-
let, ensure that the power outlet lid is
properly closed.
CAUTION
Use of the power outlet when it is
wet with drinking water or snow
may result in electrical shocks and
is extremely dangerous. The power
outlet must be thoroughly dried be-
fore use.
Do not allow children to use or
play with the power outlet.
Be careful not to get any part of
your body caught in the power out-
let lid.
When using electrical appliances,
strictly follow any cautions and no-
tices written on their labels and in
the manufacturers’ instruction man-
uals.
Do not modify, disassemble or
repair the power outlet or its
inverter, in any way. Doing so may
result in unexpected malfunctions
or accidents, which could cause
serious damage or injuries. Contact
a Toyota dealer for any necessary
repairs.
To prevent injuries and accidents, se-
curely fix all electric appliances be-
fore use and do not use any ap-
pliances that may do any of the fol-
lowing:
Distract the driver while driving, or
hamper safe driving.
Result in a fire or burn injuries due
to the appliance rolling, falling or
overheating while driving.
Emit steam, while the windows of
the cabin are closed.
Do not perform any of the following.
Doing so is very dangerous and may
cause unexpected accidents, such as
electric shocks.
Using the power outlet for electric
heaters while sleeping.
Contaminating the power outlet with
liquid substances or mud.
Handling electrical appliance plugs
at the power outlet with wet hands
or feet.

Carpets
Use a good foamtype shampoo to
clean the carpets.
Begin by vacuuming thoroughly to remove
as much dirt as possible. Several types of
foam cleaners are available; some are in
aerosol cans and others are powders or
liquids which you mix with water to pro-
duce a foam. To shampoo the carpets,
use a sponge or brush to apply the foam.
Rub in overlapping circles.
Do not apply water—the best results are
obtained by keeping the carpet as dry as
possible. Read the shampoo instructions
and follow them closely.
Seat belts
The seat belts may be cleaned with
mild soap and water or with lukewarm
water.
Use a cloth or sponge. As you are clean-
ing, check the belts for excessive wear,
fraying, or cuts.NOTICE
Do not use dye or bleach on the
belts—it may weaken them.
Do not use the belts until they be-
come dry.

If you use cleaners or polishing

If you use a liquid car freshener, do
not apill the liquid onto the ve-

tain the ingredients mentioned
above. Immediately clean any spill
using the method mentioned above.
