■Dynamic radar cruise control can be set when
●The shift lever is in D or range 4 or higher of S has been sele cted.
● Vehicle speed is at or above approximately 30 mph (50 km/h).
■ Accelerating after setting the vehicle speed
The vehicle can accelerate by operating the accelerator pedal. After acceler-
ating, the set speed resumes. However, during vehicle-to-vehicl e distance
control mode, the vehicle speed may decrease below the set spee d in order
to maintain the distance to the preceding vehicle.
■ Automatic cancelation of vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode
Vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode is automatically cance led in the fol-
lowing situations:
● Actual vehicle speed falls at or below approximately 25 mph (40 km/h).
● VSC is activated.
● TRAC is activated for a period of time.
● When the VSC or TRAC system is turned off.
● When snow mode is set.
● The sensor cannot detect correctly because it is covered in some way.
● Pre-collision braking is activated.
If vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode is automatically ca nceled for any
other reason, there may be a malfunction in the system. Contact your Toyota
dealer.

Automatic cancelation of c onstant speed control mode
Constant speed control mode is automatically canceled in the following situa-
tions:
● Actual vehicle speed is more than approximately 10 mph (16 km/h ) below
the set vehicle speed.
● Actual vehicle speed falls below approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) .
● VSC is activated.
● TRAC is activated for a period of time.
● When the VSC or TRAC system is turned off.
● Pre-collision braking is activated.
If constant speed control mode is automatically canceled for an y other rea-
son, there may be a malfunction in the system. Contact your Toyota dealer.
■ Brake system operation sound
If the brakes are applied automatically while the vehicle is in vehicle-to-vehi-
cle distance control mode, a brake system operation sound may b e heard.
This does not indicate a malfunction.
■ Warning messages and buzzers for d ynamic radar cruise control
Warning messages and buzzers are used to indicate a system malfunction or
to inform the driver of the need for caution while driving. If a warning message
is shown on the multi-information display, read the message and follow the
instructions. ( P. 593)
■ When the sensor may not be correctly detect ing the vehicle ahead
In the case of the following and depending on the conditions, o perate the
brake pedal when deceleration of the system is insufficient or operate the
accelerator pedal when acceleration is required.
As the sensor may not be able to correctly detect these types o f vehicles, the
approach warning ( P. 299) may not be activated.
● Vehicles that cut in suddenly
● Vehicles traveling at low speeds
● Vehicles that are not moving in the same lane
● Vehicles with small rear ends (trailers with no load on board, etc.)
● Motorcycles traveling in the same lane

detecting of the sensor
■ Conditions under which the vehic le-to-vehicle distance control mode
may not function correctly
In the case of the following conditions, operate the brake peda l (or accelera-
tor pedal, depending on the situation) as necessary.
As the sensor may not be able to correctly detect vehicles ahead, the system
may not operate properly.
● When the vehicle ahead of you decelerates suddenly
● When driving on a road surrounded by a structure, such as in a tunnel or on
a bridge
● While the vehicle speed is decreasing to the set speed after th e vehicle
accelerates by depressing the accelerator pedal

When your vehicle is pointing upwards
(caused by a heavy load in the luggage
compartment, etc.)
● Preceding vehicle has an extremely
high ground clearance
●When the road curves or when the
lanes are narrow
● When steering wheel operation or your
position in the lane is unstable

system.
The Stop & Start cancel indicator
will come on.
Pressing the switch again will
enable the Stop & Start system and
the Stop & Start cancel indicator
will turn off.

Automatic reactivation of the Stop & Start system
Even if the Stop & Star t system is disabled by the Stop & Start can-
cel switch, it will be automatically enabled when the engine sw itch
is turned off, and then t he engine is started again.
■If the Stop & Start cancel switch is pressed
● When the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start system, pressing
the Stop & Start cancel switch will re start the engine.
● With the Stop & Start system d isabled, pressing the Stop & Start
cancel switch will enable the sy stem but not stop the engine.
From the next time the vehicle is stopped (after the Stop & Sta rt
system has been enabled), the engine will be stopped.
If the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start system when the ve hicle is
on an incline, brake force is temporarily maintained to prevent rolling
backwards until the engine is restarted and drive force is gene rated.
When drive force is generated, the maintained brake force is au tomat-
ically canceled.
● This function operates on flat surfaces as well as steep inclines.
● Sound may be generated from the brakes, but this is not a malfu nc-
tion.
● Brake pedal response may change and vibration may occur, but
these are not malfunctions.

■Operating conditions
●The Stop & Start system is operational when all of the followin g conditions
are met:
• The brake pedal is being depressed firmly.
• The engine is adequately warmed up.
• The outside temperature is 23°F (-5°C) or higher.
• The shift lever is in D.
• is off.
• The hood is closed.
• The driver's seat belt is fastened.
• The driver's door is closed.
• The accelerator pedal is not being depressed.
● In the following situations the engine may not be stopped by th e Stop & Start
system. This is not a malfunction of the Stop & Start system.
• The air conditioning system is being used when the ambient tem perature
is high or low.
• The battery is not sufficiently charged, such as if the vehicle has been
parked for a long time and the battery charge has decreased, the electric
load is large, the battery temperature is excessively low or th e battery has
deteriorated, or is undergoing a periodic recharge.
• The brake booster vacuum is low.
• The vehicle is stopped on a steep incline.
• The steering wheel is being operated.
• Due to traffic or other circumstances the vehicle is being sto pped repeat-
edly.
• The vehicle is being driven in a high altitude area.
• Engine coolant temperature or transmission fluid temperature i s
extremely low or high.
• The battery fluid temperature is extremely low or high.
• For a while after the battery terminals have been disconnected and
reconnected.

• The battery is not sufficiently charged.
■ Hood
●If the hood is opened while the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start sys-
tem, the engine will stall and will not be able to be restarted by the automatic
engine start function. In this case, restart the engine using the normal
engine starting procedure. ( P. 224, 227)
● Even if the hood is closed after the engine is started with the hood open, the
Stop & Start system will not operate. Close the hood, turn the engine switch
off, wait 30 seconds or more, and then start the engine.
■ When to use the Stop & Start system
●When the system cannot operate, is canceled, or is malfunctioning, warning
messages and a warning buzzer are used to inform the driver. ( P. 310)
● Vehicles with a smart key system: If the engine switch is press ed when the
engine is stopped by the Stop & Start system, the engine will s tall and will
not be able to be restarted by the automatic engine start funct ion. In this
case, restart the engine using the normal engine starting proce dure.
( P. 224, 227)
● When the engine is restarted by the Stop & Start system, the po wer outlets
may be temporarily unusable, but this is not a malfunction.
● Installation and removal of electrical components and wireless devices may
affect the Stop & Start system. Contact your Toyota dealer for details.

system is being used in automatic mode, the fan speed may be reduced or
the fan may be stopped while the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start sys-
tem in order to reduce changes in the cabin temperature.
● To ensure air conditioning system performance when the vehicle is stopped,
disable the Stop & Start system by pressing the Stop & Start ca ncel switch.
■ Changing the idling stop time with the air conditioning system on
The length of time the Stop & Start system will operate when th e air condition-
