QSensor detection range
The detection range of the Parking Support Brake function differs from the
detection range of the Toyota parking assist-sensor. (P. 455)
Therefore, even if the Toyota parking assist-sensor detects an obstacle and
provides a warning, the Parking Support Brake function may not start operat-
ing.
QSystem operation
When the vehicle is stopped by system operation, the Parking Support Brake
function stops and the PKSB OFF indicator illuminates.
QSystem recovery
When the Parking Support Brake function is stopped by system operation
and you would like to resume operation, either turn the Parking Support
Brake function on again (P. 464), or turn the power switch off and then back
on. Furthermore, when the vehicle moves with an obstacle no longer in the
traveling direction of the vehicle, or when the traveling direction of the vehicle
changes (such as when switching from moving forward to backing up, and
vice versa), system operation automatically resumes.
QObstacles not detected by the sensors
The following obstacles may not be detected by the sensors.
OObjects such as people, cloth and snow, that are difficult for sonic waves to
reflect off of. (In particular, people may also not be detected depending on
the type of clothing they are wearing.)
OObjects not perpendicular with the ground, objects not at a right angle to the
traveling direction of the vehicle, uneven objects or waving objects
OLow objects
OThin objects such as wires, fences, ropes and signposts
OObjects that are extremely close to the bumper
QSituations in which the system may not operate properly

QSituations in which the system may operate even if there is no possibil-
ity of a collision

QIn the unlikely event that the Parking Support Brake function mistakenly
operates at a crossing or elsewhere
Even in the unlikely event that the Parking Support Brake function mistakenly
operates at a crossing or elsewhere, brake control is canceled after approxi-
mately 2 seconds, allowing you to proceed forward and leave the area. Fur-
thermore, brake control is also canceled when the brake pedal is depressed.
Depressing the accelerator pedal again allows you to proceed forward and
leave the area.

Q When removing and installing the 12-volt battery
The system needs to be initialized.
The system can be initialized by driving the vehicle straight a head for 5 sec-
onds or more at a speed of approximately 35 km/h (22 mph) or hi gher.
Q When “PKSB Unavailable” is displayed on the multi-information display
and the PKSB OFF indicator flashes
O Ice, snow, dirt, etc., may have adhered to the sensor. If this occurs, remove
the ice, snow, dirt, etc., from the sensor to return the system to normal.
Also, a warning message may be displayed at low temperatures du e to ice
forming on the sensor, and the sensor may not detect obstacles. Once the
ice melts, the system will return to normal.
O If this message is shown even after removing dirt from the sensor, or shown
when the sensor was not dirty to begin with, have the vehicle i nspected at
any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, o r any reliable
repairer.
Q When “PKSB Malfunction Visit Your Dealer” is displayed on the multi-
information display, the PKSB OFF indicator flashes and the buz zer
sounds
The system may not be operating properly. Have the vehicle insp ected at any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or an y reliable
repairer.
WARNING
Q Cautions regarding the use of the system
Do not rely solely upon the system. Relying solely upon the sys tem may
lead to an unexpected accident.
O Driving safely is the sole responsibility of the driver. Pay careful attention
to the surrounding conditions in order to ensure safe driving. The Parking
Support Brake function can provide support to lessen the severi ty of colli-
sions. However, it may not operate depending on the situation.
O The Parking Support Brake function is not a system designed to com-
pletely stop the vehicle. Furthermore, even if the Parking Supp ort Brake
function is able to stop the vehicle, brake control is canceled after approxi-
mately 2 seconds, so depress the brake pedal immediately.
O It is extremely dangerous to check the system operations by intentionally
driving the vehicle into the direction of a wall, etc. Never at tempt such
actions.

WARNING
QWhen to disable the Parking Support Brake
In the following situations, disable the Parking Support Brake as the system
may operate even though there is no possibility of a collision.
O When inspecting the vehicle using a chassis roller, chassis dynamo or free
roller
O When loading the vehicle onto a boat, truck or other transport vessel
O If the suspension has been modified or tires of a size other than specified
are installed
O If the front of the vehicle is raised or lowered due to the carried load
O When equipment that may obstruct a sensor is installed, such as a towing
eyelet, bumper protector (an addi tional trim strip, etc.), bicycle carrier, or
snow plow
O When using automatic car washing devices
O If the vehicle cannot be driven in a stable manner, such as when the vehi-
cle has been in an accident or is malfunctioning
O When the vehicle is driven in a sporty manner or off-road
O When the tires are not properly inflated
O When the tires are very worn
O When tire chains, compact spare tire or an emergency tire puncture repair
kit are used
Q To ensure the system can operate properly

Q Handling the suspension
Do not modify the suspension, as changes to the height or incli ne of the
vehicle may prevent the sensors from correctly detecting obstac les, may
cause the system not operate, or may cause the system to operat e unnec-
essarily.
Q If the Parking Support Brake function (static objects) operates unnec-
essarily, such as at a railroad crossing

NOTICE
QPreventing sensor malfunctions
O If the area around a sensor is subjected to an impact, equipment may not
operate properly due to a sensor malfunction. Have the vehicle inspected
at any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer , or any reli-
able repairer.
O When using a high-pressure washer to wash the vehicle, do not spray
water directly on the sensors. The sensors may not function pro perly if
subjected to an impact from strong water pressure.
O When using steam to wash the vehicle, do not direct steam too close to
the sensors. The sensors may not function properly if subjected to steam.

S-IPA (Simple Intelligent Parking Assist
System)
QFunction summary
The Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System automatically oper -
ates the steering wheel to provide support when backing into an
area near a target parking spot, and when departing from a para llel
parking spot. (Changing the shift position and speed adjustment
when moving forward or backing up are not performed automati-
cally.)
O The Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System does not park the
vehicle automatically. It is a system that provides support whe n
pulling out of a perpendicular or parallel parking spot.
O The Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System provides steering
wheel operation assistance to guide the vehicle toward the
selected intended parking spot. The selected intended parking
spot may not always be reachable, depending on road and vehi-
cle conditions at the time of parking, and the distance to the
intended parking spot.
QLinking with the Parking Support Brake function
While the Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System is operating , if
the system detects an obstacle that could result in a collision , the
emergency brakes operate, regardless of whether the Parking Sup -
port Brake function is on or off. ( P. 475)

Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System
WARNING
OWhen backing up or proceeding forward, be sure to directly confirm the
safety of the area to the front or rear, and the area around th e vehicle, and
slowly back up or proceed forward while adjusting the vehicle s peed by
depressing the brake pedal.
O If it seems the vehicle may make contact with a pedestrian, another vehi-
cle or any other obstacles, stop the vehicle by depressing the brake pedal,
and then press the S-IPA switch ( P. 476) to turn the system off.

QParking Support Brake function while the Simple Intelligent Parking
Assist System is operating
While the Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System is operating, if the system
detects an obstacle that could result in a collision, hybrid system output
restriction control and brake control of the Parking Support Brake function are
operated, regardless of whether the Parking Support Brake function is on or
off. (P. 464)
OAfter the Parking Support Brake function operates, operation of the Simple
Intelligent Parking Assist System is temporarily stopped, and operation of
the Parking Support Brake function is indicated on the multi-information dis-
play. (P. 468)
OWhen operation of the Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System is stopped 3
times by operation of the Parking Support Brake function, the Simple Intelli-
gent Parking Assist System is canceled.
OOnce the Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System becomes available after
the Parking Support Brake function is operated, a message prompting you
to shift is displayed on the multi-information display. Operation of the Simple
Intelligent Parking Assist System can be resumed by shifting according to
the prompt on the multi-information display and pressing the S-IPA switch
(P. 476) again.
QShifting while the Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System is operating
If the system determines that the driver intends to move forward or in reverse,
assistance continues even if the driver shifted before being prompted to do so
by the system. However, because driver operation differs from the guidance
provided by the system, the number of turning maneuvers may increase.
QCustomization

QSwitching using the S-IPA switch
Press the switch
This allows you to switch func-
tions and cancel or restart assist
modes.
While the power switch is on, the vehicle speed is approximatel y
30 km/h (19 mph) or less, each time the S-IPA switch is pressed t he
function switches as follows.

Assistance level indicator
Displays a gauge indicating the
level until the vehicle’s stopping
position/the position at which assist
control ends.
Stop display
When illuminated, depress the
brake pedal and stop the vehicle at
once.
Operation display area
Displays the operating condition of the Simple Intelligent Parking Assist
System.
Advice display
Follow the instructions on the display and perform any indicated opera-
tions. As an example, the illustration shows the display indicating it is nec-
essary to depress the brake pedal in order to control the vehicle speed and
to confirm the safety of your surroundings.
S-IPA switch icon
Displayed when the assist mode can be changed and the system can be
turned off or on using the S-IPA switch.
Steering wheel auto operation display
Displays when the steering wheel auto operation is being performed.

QS-IPA indicator inside the meter (P. 208)
This indicator illuminates when the steering wheel auto operation is being
performed by the Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System. After control
ends, the indicator blinks for a short period of time and then turns off.
QToyota parking assist-sensor pop-up display
While the Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System is operating, if the Toyota
parking assist-sensor function detects an obstacle, the Toyota parking assist-
sensor display automatically pops up on the guidance screen (P. 451),
regardless of whether the Toyota parking assist-sensor function is on or off.

Assist mode will be canceled or stopped in the following cases.
QAssist control is canceled when
OThe system temperature preservation function operates
OThere is a system malfunction
OSystem determined that the parking environment is not suitable
for assist to continue
When assist control is canceled, firmly grasp the steering wheel,
depress the brake pedal and stop the vehicle.
Start again from the beginning, as the system will already be can-
celed. When continuing to park manually, operate the steering
wheel as you normally would.
QAssist control is stopped when

OThe vehicle speed exceeds 7 km/h (4 mph) during assist control
OThe Parking Support Brake function operates
When assist control is stopped, it can be resumed by following the
guidance shown on the screen.
QIf the vehicle speed is about to exceed the speed limit during assist con-
trol
Canceling or stopping assist mode
A buzzer sounds and the message indi-
cating there is possibility that the vehicle
speed may exceed the speed limit.
When the message is displayed, immedi-
ately depress the brake pedal to deceler-
ate. If the vehicle continues to accelerate,
assist control will be canceled when the
vehicle speed exceeds a certain speed.
