When trouble arises

or another duly qualified and equipped professional immediately.
Failure to investigate the cause of the following warnings may lead to
the system operating abnormally and possibly cause an accident.

• The hybrid system;
• The electronic engine control system; or

Indicates a malfunction in:
• The ABS; or
• The brake assist system
Electric power steering system warning light (warn-
ing buzzer)
Indicates a malfunction in the EPS system

Indicates a malfunction in the pre-crash safety system
The warning light will operate as follows, even when the
system is not malfunctioning:
• The light will flash quickly when the system is operating.

• The light will turn on when the pre-crash braking is dis-
abled. (P. 308)
• The light will turn on when the system cannot temporar-
ily be used. (P. 476)

•VSC;
• TRC; or
• Hill-start assist control
Flashes when the above systems and/or ABS are oper-

Indicates a malfunction in:
• The regenerative braking system; or
• The electronically controlled brake system

Parking lock system warning light (warning buzzer)
Indicates a malfunction in the P position control system
• In this situation, there is a possibility that the parking
lock mechanism will not work. When parking, park the
vehicle on a flat surface and apply the parking brake
securely.
• The “POWER” switch may not be turned off. If this hap-
pens, applying the parking brake will enable the switch
to be turned off.
Parking lock system warning message (warning

Indicates a malfunction in the P position control system
when the vehicle is stopped
• In this situation, there is a possibility that the parking
lock mechanism will not work. When parking, park the
vehicle on a flat surface and apply the parking brake
securely.
• The “POWER” switch may not be turned off. If this hap-
pens, applying the parking brake will enable the switch
to be turned off.
Hybrid battery indicator light
The hybrid battery (traction battery) will soon need to be
inspected or replaced
Have the hybrid battery (traction battery) inspected by
any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another
duly qualified and equipped professional immediately.

*: If you continue to use the vehicle in this state, the light starts blinking with
buzzer sounds, and you will soon become unable to start the hybrid system.

*1: Open door warning buzzer:
The open door warning buzzer sounds to alert one or more of the doors is
not fully closed (with the vehicle having reached a speed of 5km/h [3 mph]).
*2: Seat belt warning buzzer:
The seat belt reminder sounds to alert the driver, front passenger and rear
passengers that his or her seat belt is not fastened. The buzzer sounds
intermittently for 30 seconds after the vehicle has reached a speed of at
least 20 km/h (12 mph). Then, if the seat belt is still unfastened, the buzzer
will sound in a different tone for 90 more seconds.

Electric power steering system warning light (warning buzzer)
When the 12-volt battery charge becomes insufficient or the voltage tempo-
rarily drops, the electric power steering system warning light may come on
and the warning buzzer sounds.
If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving
The malfunction indicator lamp will come on if the fuel tank becomes com-
pletely empty. If the fuel tank is empty, refuel the vehicle immediately. The
malfunction indicator lamp will go off after several trips.
Customization
The vehicle speed linked seat belt reminder buzzer can be disabled.
(Customizable features P. 554) However, Toyota recommends that the
seat belt reminder buzzer be operational to alert the driver and front passen-
ger when seat belts are not fastened.
CAUTION
If both the ABS and the brake system warning lights remain on
Stop your vehicle in a safe place immediately and contact any authorized
Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional. The vehicle will become extremely unstable during braking, and the
ABS system may fail, which could cause an accident resulting in death or
serious injury.
When the electric power steering system warning light comes on
The steering wheel may become extremely heavy.
If the steering wheel becomes heavier than usual when operating, hold
firmly and operate using more force than usual.
