Driving
the side of the vehicle.
OIf the orientation of a sensor has been
changed due to a collision or other
impact.

sensor is installed, such as a towing
eyelet, bumper protector (an addi-
tional trim strip, etc.), bicycle carrier,
or snow plow.

stable manner, such as when the
vehicle has been in an accident or is
malfunctioning.
OWhen tire chains, a compact spare
tire or an emergency tire puncture

operate even if there is no possibil-
ity of a collision
In some situations, such as the follow-
ing, the system may operate even
though there is no possibility of a colli-
sion.
OWhen driving on a narrow road.
OWhen driving toward a banner, flag,
low-hanging branch or boom barrier
(such as those used at railroad cross-
ings, toll gates and parking lots).
OWhen there is a rut or hole in the sur-
face of the road.
OWhen driving on a metal cover (grat-
ing), such as those used for drainage
ditches.
OWhen driving up or down a steep
slope.
OIf a sensor is hit by a large amount of water, such as when driving on a
flooded road.
OThere is dirt, snow, water drops or ice
on a sensor. (Cleaning the sensors
will resolve this problem.)
OA sensor is coated with a sheet of
spray or heavy rain.
OWhen driving in inclement weather
such as fog, snow or a sandstorm.
OWhen strong winds are blowing.
OWhen vehicle horns, vehicle detec-
tors, motorcycle engines, air brakes of
large vehicles, the clearance sonar of
other vehicles or other devices which
produce ultrasonic waves are near the
vehicle.
OIf the front of the vehicle is raised or
lowered due to the carried load.
OIf the orientation of a sensor has been
changed due to a collision or other
impact.
OThe vehicle is approaching a tall or
curved curb.
ODriving close to columns (H-shaped
steel beams, etc.) in multi-story park-
ing garages, construction sites, etc.
OIf the vehicle cannot be driven in a
stable manner, such as when the
vehicle has been in an accident or is
malfunctioning.
OOn an extremely bumpy road, on an
incline, on gravel, or on grass.

OStart the hybrid system with the power switch in ACC. The hybrid system
may not start with the power switch turned off. However, the hybrid sys-tem will operate normally from the
second attempt.
OThe power switch mode is recorded
by the vehicle. If the 12-volt battery is reconnected, the vehicle will return the power switch mode to the status it
was in before the 12-volt battery was disconnected. Make sure to turn off the power switch before disconnect
the 12-volt battery. Take extra care when connecting the 12-volt battery if the power switch mode prior to dis-
charge is unknown.
If the hybrid system will not start even after multiple attempts at all methods
above, contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
WARNING
QChemicals in the 12-volt battery
The 12-volt battery contains poison- ous and corrosive sulfuric acid and
may produce hydrogen gas which is flammable and explosive. To reduce the risk of death or serious injury, take
the following precautions while work- ing on or near the 12-volt battery:
ODo not cause sparks by touching the 12-volt battery terminals with tools.
ODo not smoke or light a match near the 12-volt battery.
OAvoid contact with eyes, skin and clothes.
ONever inhale or swallow electrolyte.
OWear protective safety glasses when working near the 12-volt bat-tery.
OKeep children away from the 12-volt battery.
QWhere to safely charge the 12-volt battery
Always charge the 12-volt battery in
an open area. Do not charge the 12- volt battery in a garage or closed room where there is not sufficient
ventilation.
QEmergency measures regarding
electrolyte
OIf electrolyte gets in your eyes
Flush your eyes with clean water for
at least 15 minutes and get immediate
medical attention. If possible, con-
tinue to apply water with a sponge or
cloth while traveling to the nearest
medical facility.
OIf electrolyte gets on your skin
Wash the affected area thoroughly. If
you feel pain or burning, get medical
attention immediately.
OIf electrolyte gets on your clothes
It can soak through clothing on to
your skin. Immediately take off the
clothing and follow the procedure
above if necessary.
OIf you accidentally swallow electro- lyte
Drink a large quantity of water or milk.
Get emergency medical attention
immediately.
QWhen there is insufficient 12-volt
battery fluid
Do not use if there is insufficient fluid in the 12-volt battery. There is a pos-
sible danger that the 12-volt battery may explode.

As the hybrid system needs to be operating during customization,
ensure that the vehicle is parked in a place with adequate ventilation. In a closed area such as a garage,
exhaust gases including harmful car- bon monoxide (CO) may collect and
enter the vehicle. This may lead to death or a serious health hazard.

To prevent 12-volt battery discharge, ensure that the hybrid system is oper-
ating while customizing features.
