Operating the iPhone® and using the apps while driving can cause driver distraction, accidents, and serious personal injury.

x Select a volume level that allows you to hear audible signals (such emergency vehicle sirens) clearly at all times.
x A volume level that is too high can damage hearing. This is true even if you are exposed to loud noises for only short periods of time.
WARNING
An obstructed field of view may limit visibility and cause accidents and serious personal injury.
x While driving, the iPhone® must be swiveled to the horizontal (landscape) position so that the driver’s view through the windshield is not blocked.

If either the iPhone® or the portable iPhone® holder is loose or not secured properly, it can be thrown around the vehicle interior during sudden braking or driving maneuvers or in a collision and cause injuries.
x Always insert the portable iPhone® holder and the iPhone® securely in their mounts or store them safely in the vehicle.

Never use a mobile telephone, CB radio, or other radio equipment while refueling. The electromagnetic radiation can cause sparks that can ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.
NOTICE
Swiveling the iPhone® mount incorrectly can damage the portable iPhone® holder.
x Do not use the portable iPhone® holder as a handle or use it to hold anything other than the iPhone®.
x Do not press down on the portable iPhone® holder when swiveling the iPhone®. The portable iPhone® holder and the instrument panel could be damaged.

Extremely high or low temperatures can affect the function of the portable iPhone® holder or damage the iPhone®.
x Only use or store the iPhone® at an acceptable temperature. Read and follow the iPhone® owner's manual.
x Always take the portable iPhone® holder with you when leaving the vehicle to help protect it from extremely high or low temperatures or strong sunlight.
NOTICE
The iPhone® must always be switched off in areas where it is required and where the use of mobile devices is prohibited. When switched on, the radiation emitted by the iPhone® can cause interference with sensitive technical and medical devices, which can result in malfunctions or damage to the devices.
NOTICE
Moisture can damage the electrical contacts for the portable iPhone® holder on the instrument panel.
x Do not use anything damp to clean the portable iPhone® holder. Use only a dry cloth.
NOTICE
Do not install the iPhone® in the portable iPhone® holder when there are protective covers on the front or rear of the iPhone®. If there are any protective covers on the front or rear of the iPhone®, remove them before installing the iPhone®.
x Always insert the iPhone® straight into the portable iPhone® holder ⇒ fig. 149. If the iPhone® is inserted at an angle, the electrical contacts on the iPhone® and the portable iPhone® holder could be damaged.
Volkswagen recommends always taking the portable iPhone® holder with you when leaving the vehicle to help prevent theft.
Please check to be sure your version of the iPhone® is compatible with the iPhone® holder in the vehicle. Different portable iPhone® holders are required for different iPhone® versions or models.
