Bef ore every trip, each vehicle occupant
must adopt the correct sitting position,
correctly fasten the seat belt belonging
to their seat and keep it fastened prop-
erly throughout the trip. This applies to
all vehicle occupants and also in urban
traffic.
x While the vehicle is in motion, secure all
children travelling in the vehicle in a re-
straint system suitable for their weight
and height. They must also wear cor-
rectly fastened seat belts

WARNING
Once triggered, the airbag inflates in frac-
tions of a second at v ery high speed.
x Always leave the deployment zones of
the curtain airbags clear.
x Never secure any items to the cover or in
the deployment zone of the curtain air-
bag.
x There must be no other persons, animals
or objects between the vehicle occu-
pants sitting on the front seats and rear
outer seats and the deployment zones of
the airbags. Ensure that children and
passengers keep to this rule.
x The coat hooks in the vehicle should on-
ly be used for lightweight clothing. Do
not leave any heavy or sharp objects in
the pockets.
x Do not fit any accessories to the doors.
x Do not install any sun blinds onto the
side windows unless they have been ex-
pressly approved for use in your vehicle.
x Only push the sun visors over to the side
windows if no items are attached to the
visors (e.g. pens or a garage door open-
er). Central airbag

x
Close and lock the boot lid and all v ehi-
cle doors when the vehicle is not in use.
Ensure that no one remains in the vehi-
cle.
x Never leave children playing unattended
in or around the vehicle, especially when
the boot lid is open. Children could climb
into the luggage compartment and shut
the boot lid, thereby trapping them-
selves inside. Temperatures inside
a locked vehicle may be extremely hot or
cold depending on the season. This can
cause serious injuries and illness or fa-
talities, especially among small children. WARNING
Serious injuries can occur if the boot lid is
unlocked or opened incorrectly or without
due care and attention.
x It may not always be apparent that the
boot lid is unlocked, f

or example when
a loaded luggage carrier is attached to it.
If unlocked, the boot lid may open sud-
denly while the vehicle is in motion. WARNING
If there is a large amount of snow or
a hea
vy load on the boot lid, the boot lid
may lower by itself and cause serious inju-
ries due to the additional weight.
x Never open the boot lid if it is covered
by a large amount of snow or a load is
attached to it, e.g. a luggage carrier.
x Remove the snow or load before open-
ing the boot lid. WARNING
Do not close the boot lid by pushing it
down with your hand on the window. The
rear window may shatter and cause inju-
ries. NOTICE
Never use the opening mechanism to fix or
hold a load. This could lead to damage that
makes it impossible to close the boot lid. NOTICE
Never use the rear window wiper or the rear
spoiler to fix or hold a load. This may result in
damage that causes the rear wiper or rear
spoiler to be torn off

Practical equipment
Stowage areas Introduction to the topic
WARNING
Loose objects may be flung through the ve-
hicle interior in the e vent of a sudden driv-
ing or braking manoeuvre. This can cause
serious injury and can also lead to loss of
control of the vehicle.
x Stow objects only in closed stowage
compartments.
x Always keep stowage compartments
closed while the vehicle is in motion.
x The coat hooks in the vehicle should on-
ly be used for lightweight clothing
weighing max. 2.5 kg (approx. 5.5 lbs).
Never leave any heavy, hard or sharp ob-
jects in the pockets. WARNING
If the glove box is left open, this can in-
crease the risk of serious injury in the e
vent
of an accident or during sudden braking or
driving manoeuvres.
x Always keep the glove box closed while
the vehicle is in motion. WARNING
Any lighters in the vehicle could be dam-
aged or accidentally lit. This could lead to
serious burns and other injuries.
x Bef

ore closing stowage areas or com-
partments always make sure that there
is no lighter in the way.
x Never stow lighters in stowage areas or
compartments or on other surfaces in
the vehicle. High surface temperatures,
especially in summer, may cause lighters
to self-ignite. WARNING
Incorrect use of the drink holders can cause
injury.
x Ne

ver place hot drinks in a drink holder.
Hot drinks in a drink holder could be
spilled and cause scalding in any sudden
braking manoeuvre or accident.
x Make sure that only drinks of the appro-
priate size are placed in the drink holder.
Drinks must always be stored securely in
the drink holder. WARNING
Closed drink bottles can explode in the ve-
hicle in e
xtreme heat or burst in extremely
cold temperatures.
x Never leave closed drink bottles in an
extremely hot or extremely cold vehicle
for extended periods. NOTICE
x Do not stow any temperature-sensitiv
e
objects, food or medicines inside the vehi-
cle. Hot and cold temperatures could dam-
age them or render them unusable.
x Objects stored in the vehicle that are
made from transparent materials, such as
transparent suction cups on the windows,
can concentrate the sun

DANGER
It is dangerous to transport people in
a trailer and it may also be illegal. WARNING
Improper use of the towing bracket can
lead to a loss of v ehicle control, accidents
and serious injuries.
x Only use the towing bracket if it is fitted
properly and is not damaged.
x Do not carry out any alterations or re-
pairs to the towing bracket.
x Wherever possible, swivel in or remove
the ball coupling when a trailer is not
being used in order to reduce the risk of
injury in rear-end collisions, and the risk
of injury to pedestrians and cyclists
when the vehicle is parked.
x Never install a “weight-distributing” or
“load-balancing” towing bracket to the
vehicle. The vehicle was not constructed
for these kinds of towing brackets. The
towing bracket can fail, causing the
trailer to tear loose from the vehicle. WARNING
Towing a trailer and transporting heavy or
bulky items can change the v
ehicle han-
dling, increase the braking distance and
lead to accidents.
x Always secure loads properly using suit-
able and undamaged lashing, retaining
or securing straps.
x Always adapt your speed and driving
style to suit visibility, weather, road and
traffic conditions. Reduce your speed,
particularly when going downhill.
x Trailers with a high centre of gravity are
more likely to tip over than trailers with
a low centre of gravity.
x Always drive carefully and think ahead.
Accelerate carefully and gently. Avoid
abrupt and sudden driving and braking
manoeuvres. x
Take special care when o
vertaking. Re-
duce your speed immediately if the trail-
er shows even the slightest sign of snak-
ing.
x Never drive faster than 80 km/h
(50 mph) when towing a trailer; also
100 km/h (60 mph) in exceptional cases.
This also applies to countries where
higher speeds are permitted. Keep to
country-specific speed limits which may
be lower for vehicles with trailers than
for vehicles without trailers.
x Never try to stop a trailer from snaking
by increasing your speed.
x Never install a “weight-distributing” or
“load-balancing” towing bracket on the
vehicle. NOTICE
Please observe the notes and information for
v
ehicles with N1 approval

If the vehicle exceeds the gross vehicle
weight rating or the rear axle load, the v
ehi-
cle speed must not exceed 80 km/h when
towing a trailer. This also applies to countries
where higher speeds are permitted. Observe
local speed limits. These may be lower for ve-
hicles with trailers than for vehicles without
trailers.
Any permitted excess loads for the vehicle
are entered in the vehicle documents. If no
excess load has been entered, it is possible to
drive up to 100 km/h, although local regula-
tions must be observed.
Technical data
Technical data can be found in the vehicle
documents. WARNING
Risk of injury and electric shock from ex-
posed wires.
x Ensure the luggage compartment trim is
installed upon or bef

ore delivery, so that
the cables in the rear of the vehicle are
covered up when using the vehicle. WARNING
Risk of severe injuries due to persons being
transported incorrectly.
x Ne

ver transport adults or children in the
middle of the rear bench seat.
x The lack of restraint systems such as
seat belt and head restraint can result in
serious or fatal injury in the event of an
accident. WARNING
Risk of severe and fatal injuries.
x Do not tra

vel with people in the luggage
compartment.
x Observe the safety notes and informa-
tion regarding the luggage compartment
and transporting items
