flung against the body.
x Ne
ver hold any objects in your hand or
on your lap while the vehicle is in mo-
tion.
x Never transport any objects on the front
passenger seat. The objects could enter
the deployment zone of the airbag dur-
ing sudden braking or driving manoeu-
vres and then be flung dangerously
through the vehicle interior if the airbag
is activated.
x There must be no other persons, animals
or objects between the vehicle occu-
pants sitting on the front seats and rear
outer seats and the deployment zones of
the airbags. Ensure that children and
adults keep to this rule. breathing difficulties, particularly for
people suff
ering from asthma or people
who have (had) other respiratory prob-
lems. To help reduce breathing difficul-
ties, get out of the vehicle or open the
windows or doors for more fresh air.
x If you come into contact with the dust,
you should wash your hands and face
with a mild soap and water before eat-
ing.
x Do not let the dust get into your eyes or
into open wounds.
x If dust has entered your eyes, rinse them
with water. Type of front passenger front
airbag system
Please refer to at the start of the chap-
ter on page 47.
V

olkswagen offers two different front pas-
senger front airbag systems.
Depending on the vehicle equipment, an air-
bag system or an airbag system with front
passenger front airbag deactivation may be
installed.
Airbag system
The front passenger front airbag can be deac-
tivated only by a qualified workshop.
Characteristics of the airbag system:

WARNING
Once triggered, the airbag inflates in frac-
tions of a second at v ery high speed.
x Always leave the deployment zones of
the curtain airbags clear.
x Never secure any items to the cover or in
the deployment zone of the curtain air-
bag.
x There must be no other persons, animals
or objects between the vehicle occu-
pants sitting on the front seats and rear
outer seats and the deployment zones of
the airbags. Ensure that children and
passengers keep to this rule.
x The coat hooks in the vehicle should on-
ly be used for lightweight clothing. Do
not leave any heavy or sharp objects in
the pockets.
x Do not fit any accessories to the doors.
x Do not install any sun blinds onto the
side windows unless they have been ex-
pressly approved for use in your vehicle.
x Only push the sun visors over to the side
windows if no items are attached to the
visors (e.g. pens or a garage door open-
er). Central airbag

x
Close and lock the boot lid and all v ehi-
cle doors when the vehicle is not in use.
Ensure that no one remains in the vehi-
cle.
x Never leave children playing unattended
in or around the vehicle, especially when
the boot lid is open. Children could climb
into the luggage compartment and shut
the boot lid, thereby trapping them-
selves inside. Temperatures inside
a locked vehicle may be extremely hot or
cold depending on the season. This can
cause serious injuries and illness or fa-
talities, especially among small children. NOTICE
Never use the opening mechanism to fix or
hold a load. This could lead to damage that
makes it impossible to close the boot lid. NOTICE
Never use the rear window wiper or the rear
spoiler to fix or hold a load. This may result in
damage that causes the rear wiper or rear
spoiler to be torn off

If the electric windows in the rear
windows are not operated after oper-
ation has been activ
ated, operation of
the electric windows in the front
doors will be activated again after
around ten seconds.
Press the

safety button so that they cannot be
opened or closed.
NOTICE
During sudden rain showers, water can enter
the v ehicle interior via open windows and
cause damage to the vehicle. Correct opera-
tion of the controls also cannot be guaran-
teed. One-touch opening and closing and
the roll-back function will not work if
there is a fault in the electric windows. Go to
a qualified workshop.
Con

venience opening and closing
works only when one-touch opening
and closing is activated for all electric win-
dows. Electric window roll-back
function
The roll-back function f

or the electric win-
dows can reduce the risk of injuries when the
windows are closing.
If the window is not able to close because it
is stiff or because of an obstruction, the win-
dow will immediately open again

The one-touch function can be restored for
individual windows or f
or several windows at
the same time.
Touch panels do not react as expected
Moisture, dirt, grease etc. can restrict func-
tioning of the touch panel. Make sure that
the touch panels are always clean and dry. .

D
NOTICE
Before setting off and bef ore switching on
the ignition, always check the following to
avoid damage to the windows, wiper blades
and wiper motor:
x The wiper lever is located in the basic po-
sition.
x Snow and ice have been removed from the
wiper blades and windows.
x Wiper blades that have become frozen on-
to the glass have been carefully loosened.
Volkswagen recommends using a de-icer
spray for this. NOTICE
Do not switch on the wipers when the win-
dow is dry. Using the wipers when the win-
dow is dry can damage the glass. When switched on, the wipers will
temporarily be switched to the ne

xt
setting down when the vehicle is stationary.
If the driver or front passenger door is
opened when the vehicle is stationary,
the windscreen wipers will move to their ini-
tial position and will be switched off. If the
door is closed within a few seconds or the
wiper lever is moved, the wipers will be
switched back on again.
If the vehicle is parked during cold
weather, the service position of the
windscreen wiper may be helpful in order to
be able to release the wiper blades better
from the windscreen

WARNING
Closing the sun blind without the roll-back
function can cause serious injuries.
x Always close the sun blind carefully.
x Ensure that nobody obstructs the path
of the sun blind, especially if the roll-
back function is not activ
e when it is
closed.
x The roll-back function does not prevent
fingers or other body parts from being
pressed against the roof frame and sus-
taining injury. Introduction to the topic
The Climatronic is an automatic air condi-
tioning system that heats, cools and dehu-
midifies the air. Automatic mode enables the
Climatronic to control the air temperature, air
distribution and air v

olume automatically.
The air conditioning system will work most
effectively if the vehicle interior is kept
closed. Opening the windows and glass roof
to provide fresh air may accelerate cooling
down the vehicle if high temperatures have
built up in the vehicle interior.
Display of active functions
Illuminated symbols on the sensor buttons
indicate that the function is switched on.
Colour-coded function buttons display an ac-
tivated function in the climate settings on
the Infotainment system.
Operating the air conditioning system with
voice commands
Depending on the vehicle equipment, some
functions of the air conditioning system can
be operated with the voice control function

WARNING
Poor visibility through the door windows,
windscreen and rear window increases the
risk of collisions and accidents which can
cause serious injuries.
x Keep all door windows, the windscreen
and the rear window free from ice, snow
and condensation to maintain perf
ect
visibility.
x Adjust the heating, air conditioning and
rear window heating to prevent conden-
sation from forming on the windows.
x Only set off once all windows are clear.
x Use air recirculation mode for a short
period only. Condensation could other-
wise form very quickly on the windows,
greatly reducing visibility.
x Switch off the air recirculation mode
when it is no longer required. NOTICE
Food, medicine and other items that are sen-
sitiv
e to heat or cold could be either dam-
aged or rendered useless by the air flowing
out of the vents.
x Never leave food, medicines or other tem-
perature-sensitive objects in front of the
vents. NOTICE
If the air conditioning system is not working,
switch the air conditioning system off imme-
diately and ha

ve it checked by a qualified
workshop. This can help to prevent secondary
damage. Overview of functions
Please refer to and at the start of
the chapter on page 120.
Some functions of the air conditioning sys-
tem and menus in the Inf

otainment system as well as an air conditioning block for the
rear seats depend on the equipment le

vel.

equipment level, you can set the tem-
perature directly in the Infotainment
system or use the touch sliders be-
neath the Infotainment system. The
selected temperatures are displayed
at the bottom of the screen in the In-
fotainment system.
The temperatures set for the rear row
of seats are shown on the displays for
the air conditioning block for the rear
seats. Adopt temperature settings of driver
side f
or all seats. Switch the seat heating on and off
