Overheating of engine andtransmission
In demanding driving conditions, such as drivingin mountainous areas or hot weather, there is arisk of the engine or transmission overheating,especially when carrying heavy loads.
Engine power may be temporarily limited.
Remove any auxiliary lights mounted in frontof the grille when driving in hot weather.
If the temperature in the engine's coolingsystem becomes too high, a warning symbolwill appear in the instrument panel along withthe message Engine temperature Hightemperature Stop safely. Pull over to asafe location and let the engine idle for a fewminutes to cool down.
If the message Engine temperature Hightemperature Turn off engine or Enginecoolant Level low, turn off engine is dis-played, stop the vehicle and turn off theengine.
If the transmission begins to overheat, analternative gear shifting program will beselected. An integrated protective functionwill also be activated, the warning symbol willilluminate and the message Transmissionwarm Reduce speed to lowertemperature or Transmission hot Stopsafely, wait for cooling will be displayed inthe instrument panel. Follow the recommen-dations given by reducing speed or stopping
the vehicle safely and letting the engine idlefor a few minutes to let the transmissioncool.
If the vehicle begins to overheat, the air con-ditioning may be temporarily switched off.
After a prolonged period of driving indemanding conditions, do not turn off theengine immediately after stopping.

NOTE
It is normal for the engine's cooling fan tooperate for a short time after the engine isswitched off.

Battery drain
The electrical functions in the vehicle drain thebattery to varying degrees. Avoid using ignitionmode II when the engine is switched off. Useignition mode I instead, as this uses less electri-cal current.
Note that certain accessories may also drainpower from the electrical system. Do not usefunctions that use a lot of electrical current whenthe engine is turned off. Examples of such func-tions are:
blower
headlights
windshield wipers
audio system (especially at high volume).
If the starter battery voltage is low, a message isshown in the driver display. The vehicle's energy-saving function will then turn off or reduce certainfunctions, such as the blower and/or the audiosystem.
–Charge the battery by starting the engineand let it run for at least 15 minutes (drivingcharges the battery faster than letting theengine idle).

Jump starting using another battery
If the start battery is discharged, current fromanother battery can be used to start the vehicle.
Jumper cable connecting points.
CAUTION
The charging point of the vehicle is onlyintended for jump starting the vehicle in ques-tion. The charging point is not intended forjump-starting another vehicle. Using thecharging point to start another vehicle couldcause a fuse to blow, which would cause thecharging point to stop working.
If a fuse has blown, 12 V Battery Fuse failureService required will be displayed in the instru-ment panel. Volvo recommends contacting anauthorized Volvo workshop.
To avoid short circuits or other damage, the fol-lowing steps are recommended when jump star-ting the battery:

Recovery
This section refers to transporting the vehiclewith a tow truck or similar vehicle.
Call a professional towing service for assistance.
In certain conditions, the towing eyelet can beused to pull the vehicle onto a flatbed tow truck.

CAUTION
Note that vehicles with Twin Engine mustalways be towed raised with all wheels on thetow truck.
For vehicles equipped with leveling control*:If the vehicle is equipped with pneumatic suspen-sion, this feature must be turned off before thevehicle is lifted onto a tow truck. Turning off thefunction in the center display.
1.Tap Settings in the Top view.
2. Tap My CarParking Brake andSuspension.
3.Select Disable Leveling Control.
The vehicle's location and ground clearancedetermine if it can be lifted onto a tow truck. Ifthe incline of the tow truck is too steep or if theground clearance under the vehicle is insufficient,attempting to pull it up may result in damage. Inthis case, the vehicle should only be lifted withthe tow truck's lifting equipment.
WARNING
No person or object should be behind the towtruck when the vehicle is lifted onto the bedof the truck.

Calibrating the compass*
The globe is divided into 15 magnetic zones.The compass should be calibrated if the vehicleis driven from one zone to another.
To calibrate the compass:
1.Stop the vehicle in a large, open area awayfrom steel constructions and high-voltagepower lines.
2.Start the engine and switch off all electricalequipment (climate system, wipers, etc.) andmake sure all doors are closed.

NOTE
Calibration may fail or not even be initiated ifelectrical equipment is not turned off.
3. Hold the button on the bottom of the rear-view mirror pressed for about 3 seconds(using e.g. a paper clip). The number of thecurrent magnetic zone is shown.

4. Press the button on the underside of themirror repeatedly until the desired magneticzone (1–15) appears (see the map of mag-netic zones).
5.Wait until the display again shows C, orpress and hold the button on the undersideof the rearview mirror for approx. 6 secondsuntil C is displayed.
6. Drive slowly in a circle at a speed of no morethan 10 km/h (6 mph) until a compass direc-tion is shown in the display. This indicatesthat calibration is complete. Drive in a circletwo more times to fine-tune the calibration.
7.Vehicles with heated windshields*: If C isshown in the display when the windshieldheating function is activated, perform step 6above with the heating function on.
8. Repeat the above procedure as needed.

Audio, media and Internet
The audio and media system consists of a mediaplayer and a radio. A cellular phone can also beconnected through Bluetooth to use hands-freefunctions or play music in the vehicle. When thevehicle is connected to the Internet, it is alsopossible to use apps to play media.
Audio and media overview
The functions can be controlled using voice com-mands, the steering wheel keypad or the centerdisplay. The number of speakers and amplifiersvaries depending on the audio system installed inthe vehicle.

System updates
The audio and media system is continuouslyimproved. When the vehicle has an Internet con-nection, system updates can be downloaded foroptimal functionality; see support.volvocars.com.

Sound settings
The sound system is precalibrated for optimalsound reproduction, but these settings can bepersonalized.
The system's volume is normally adjusted usingthe volume control below the center display orthe right-side steering wheel keypad. Thisapplies, for example, when playing music or theradio or during phone calls and active traffic mes-sages.

Optimal sound reproduction
The audio system is precalibrated for optimalsound reproduction using digital signal process-ing. This calibration takes into account speakers,amplifiers, passenger compartment acoustics, lis-tener position, etc. for each combination of vehi-cle model and audio system. There is also adynamic calibration that takes into account thevolume control setting and the vehicle's speed.

Different settings are available in Top view under
SettingsSound depending on the vehicle'ssound system.

The App view contains applications (apps) thatprovide access to certain vehicle services.
Swipe the center display screen from right to
left1 to access the App view from the Home view.This view displays downloaded apps (third-partyapps) as well as apps for integrated functions,such as FM radio.

Several basic apps are always available. Moreapps such as web radio and music services canbe downloaded when the car is connected to theInternet.

Download apps
New apps can be downloaded when the vehicleis connected to the Internet.

NOTE
Data downloading can affect other servicessuch as transfer data, e.g. web radio. If theaffect on other services is experienced asproblematic, the download can be interrupted.Alternatively, it may be appropriate to switchoff or cancel other services.

NOTE
When downloading using a phone, pay extraattention to the data traffic costs.
1.Open the Download Center app in Appview.
2.Select New apps to open a list of apps thatare available but are not installed in the vehi-cle.
3.Tap on the row for an app in order to expandin the list and get more information about theapp.
4.Select Install to start the download andinstallation of the app.
>The current status of the download andinstallation will be shown.
If a download cannot be started immedi-ately, a message will be displayed. Theapp will remain in the list and it will bepossible to reattempt downloading.
Canceling a download
–Tap Abort to cancel a download in progress.
Note that only a download can be cancelled. Aninstallation cannot be cancelled once it hasbegun.

Radio
The radio can receive broadcasting from the FMwaveband with HD Radio™ Technology and
SiriusXM® Satellite radio *. When the vehicle hasan Internet connection, it is also possible to lis-ten to web radio.
The radio can be controlledusing voice commands, theright-side steering wheel key-pad or the center display.

Changing wavebands
Swipe from App view on the center display andselect the desired waveband (e.g. FM) or openthe App menu in the instrument panel with theright-side steering wheel keypad and make yourselection there.

Changing a list in a waveband
1.Tap Library.
2.Select playback from Stations, Favorites orGenres.
3. Tap the desired station in the list.
Favorites – only plays selected favorite channels.
Genres - only plays channels broadcasting theselected genre or program type, e.g. pop, classi-cal, etc.
Changing radio stations in a selected
list
–Press or under the center displayor on the right-side steering wheel keypad.
> Move step-by-step through the selectedlist.
It is also possible to change radio station in theselected list via the center display.

Searching for a radio station
The radio automatically compiles a list of theradio stations that are sending out the strongestsignals in the vehicle's current location.
Searching is performed in different ways depend-ing on the waveband selected:
FM, stations, genres and frequency.
1.Tap Library.
2.Tap .
> Search view will displayed and the key-board will open.
3.Enter a search word/phrase.
> The search will start and change as char-acters are entered. Search results will bedisplayed by category.

Searching for a station manually
Searching manually makes it possible to find andtune to stations that are not on the automaticallycompiled list of the strongest stations in the area.
–Tap Manual tuning, drag the control or tap
or . Press and hold to skip to thenext available station in the frequency band.You can also use the right-side steeringwheel keypad.

Storing radio favorites
It is possible to add a radio a radio station in theRadio favorites app and in the list of favoritesfor the waveband (e.g. FM). Instructions for add-ing and removing favorites are provided below.
Radio favorites
Radio favorites shows savedfavorites from all wavebands.
1.Open the Radio favorites app from Appview.
2. Tap the desired station in the list to listen.

Adding and deleting radio favorites
–Tap to add/remove a radio channel fromthe waveband's list of favorites or Radiofavorites.
If a favorite station is deleted here, it will also bedeleted from that waveband's list of favorites.
