Starting and stoppingpreconditioning
Preconditioning heats or cools the passengercompartment before driving. Preconditioningcan be started in the center display or from acellular phone.
Starting and stopping from the vehicle
Preconditioning button in the Parking climate tab inClimate view.
1. Open Climate view in the center display.
2.Select the Parking climate tab.
Window for seat/steering wheel heating in the Parkingclimate tab in Climate view.
3. Tap the boxes to select if seat/steeringwheel heating should be activated along withpreconditioning.
4.Tap Preconditioning.
>Preconditioning starts/stops and the but-ton lights up/goes out.
NOTE
Preconditioning is only available when the caris connected to an electrical outlet. A charg-ing post that is not always active, for examplebecause of a timer, can cause loss of functionfor preconditioning.
If the car is not connected to an electricalsocket it is still possible in a warm climate toachieve brief cooling of the passenger com-partment by direct starting preconditioning.
NOTE
The vehicle doors and windows should beclosed during preconditioning of the passen-ger compartment.
Starting from app *
A device with the Volvo On Call* app can be usedto start preconditioning or check settings. Pre-conditioning heats or cools the passenger com-partment (using the vehicle's air conditioning) toa comfortable temperature.
The passenger compartment can also be precon-
ditioned using the Engine Remote Start (ERS)5
function using the Volvo On Call* app.

In rear door *
Lock button with indicator light in rear door.
Illuminated indicator lights in each door indicatethat that particular door is locked. If any door isunlocked and opened, the indicator light in thatdoor will go out. The lights in the other doors willremain illuminated.

Lock confirmation settings
Settings for how the vehicle confirms lockingand unlocking can be adjusted in the center dis-play's Settings menu.
Locking response:
1.Tap Settings in the center display's Topview.
2.Tap My CarLocking.
3.Tap Visible Locking Feedback to deacti-vate the function or to select when the vehi-cle should provide a visible response: duringLock, Unlock or Both.
4.Select to receive an audible response whenlocking the vehicle by marking AudibleLocking Feedback.

1.Tap Settings in the center display's Topview.
2.Tap My CarMirrors and Convenience.
3.Select Fold Mirror When Locked to acti-vate or deactivate the function.

Remote key
The remote key is used to lock and unlock doorsand the tailgate. The remote key must be in thevehicle in order to start the engine.
Remote control key3, on left, and button-less key ((KeyTag)*), on right.
The remote key is not physically used to start theignition because the vehicle is standard-equippedwith keyless start (Passive Start).
To start the vehicle, the key must be in the frontsection of the passenger compartment, e.g. in thedriver's pocket or in a cup holder in the tunnelconsole.

NOTE
Be aware of the risk of locking the remotekey in the vehicle.
If the remote key or Key Tag is left in thevehicle, it will be deactivated when thevehicle is locked and the alarm set usinganother valid key. The deactivated key willbe reactivated when the vehicle isunlocked.
If the remote key or Red Key is left in thevehicle, it will be deactivated even if thevehicle is locked using Volvo On Call, andwill be reactivated when the vehicle isunlocked using Volvo On Call or bypressing the unlock button on the key.
Interference
Electromagnetic fields or obstructing objects mayinterfere with the remote key's functions for key-less start and keyless locking and unlocking*.
NOTE
Avoid storing the remote control key nearmetal objects or electronic devices, e.g. cellphones, tablets, laptops or chargers – pref-erably no closer than 10-15 cm (4-6 in.).
If you experience interference, use the remotekey's detachable blade to unlock the vehicle and
place the remote key in the backup key reader inthe tunnel console cup holder to disarm thealarm.
NOTE
When the remote control key is placed in thecup holder, make sure that no other vehiclekeys, metal objects or electronic devices (e.g.cell phones, tablets, laptops or chargers) arefound in the cup holder. Multiple vehicle keysclose to each other in the cup holder can dis-rupt their functionality.

1.Press the button on the remote key.
>The lock and alarm indicator on the dash-board will go out to indicate that the vehi-cle is no longer fully armed.
The tailgate will be unlocked but remainclosed. However, the side doors willremain locked and armed.
Press lightly on the rubberized pressureplate under the tailgate handle to openthe tailgate.
If the tailgate is not opened within2 minutes, it will be relocked and thealarm armed.
2.With the optional power tailgate* -
Hold and press (about 1.5 seconds) the button on the remote key
>The tailgate will unlock and open. How-ever, the side doors will remain locked andarmed.

Remote key range
In order to function correctly, the remote keymust be within a certain distance from the vehi-cle.
Manual use
The remote key's functions for e.g. locking and
unlocking, which are activated by pressing or
, have a range of approx. 20 meters (65 feet)from the vehicle.
If the vehicle's locks do not react, move closerand try again.
Keyless use 8
The shaded areas around the vehicle illustrate the rangeof the system's antennas.
For keyless use, a remote key or the Key Tagmust be within the shaded areas shown in theillustration, i.e. a semicircle with a radius ofapprox. 1.5 meter (5 feet) along the sides of thevehicle or approx. 1 meter (3 feet) from the tail-gate.
NOTE
The functions of the remote control key canbe disrupted by ambient radio waves, build-ings, topographical conditions, etc. The vehi-cle can always be locked/unlocked using thekey blade.
If the remote key is removed from the
vehicle
If the remote key is removed from thevehicle while the engine is running, thewarning message Vehicle key notfound Removed from vehicle will bedisplayed in the instrument panel and an audiblesignal will sound when the last door is closed.
The message will disappear when the key isreturned to the vehicle and the O button on theright-side steering wheel keypad is pressed orwhen the last door is closed again.

Insert a new battery with the positive side (+)facing upward. Do not touch the contact sur-faces of the remote key battery.
Place the edge of the battery downwardinto the holder. Slide the battery forward untilit locks into place under the two plasticcatches.
Press the battery downward until it locksinto place under the upper black plasticcatch.
NOTE
Use batteries with the designation CR2032,3 V.
NOTE
Volvo recommends that batteries used in theremote control key satisfy UN Manual of Testand Criteria, Part III, sub-section 38.3. Thefactory installed batteries and batteriesreplaced by an authorized Volvo workshopsatisfy the above criterion.
Replace the battery cover and turn it clock-wise until it points to CLOSE.
Put the rear cover back into position andpress it down until it clicks into place.
Slide the cover back.
>A second click indicates that the cover iscorrectly positioned and locked into place.
Turn the remote key over and press thefront cover down until it clicks into place.
Slide the cover back.
>An additional click indicates that the coveris correctly in place.

Ordering additional remote keys
Two remote keys are provided with the vehicle.One Key Tag is also included if the vehicle isequipped with keyless locking/unlocking*. Addi-tional keys can be ordered.
A total of 12 keys can be programmed and usedfor the same vehicle. An additional driver profilewill be added for each new remote key. This alsoapplies to the key tag.
Loss of a remote key
If you lose your remote key, you can order areplacement from a workshop - an authorizedVolvo workshop is recommended. Bring the otherremaining remote keys to the workshop. As ananti-theft measure, the code of the lost remotekey must be erased from the system.
The current number of keys registered for thevehicle can be checked via driver profiles in the
center display's Top view. Select Settings
SystemDriver Profiles.
NOTE
Volvo recommends that you order a new orduplicate remote control key from an author-ized Volvo workshop.
You can also obtain additional or duplicateremote control keys from certain independentrepair facilities and locksmiths that are quali-fied to make remote control keys. Each keymust be programmed to work with your vehi-cle.

Red Key - restricted remote key*
A Red Key makes it possible for the vehicleowner to set limitations for certain vehicle prop-erties. The limitations are intended to promotesafe use of the vehicle, e.g. when it is loanedout.
For a Red Key, it is possible to define the vehi-cle's maximum speed, set speed reminders andlimit the audio system's volume. Several of thedriver support systems will also always be active.Otherwise, the Red Key functions in the sameway as a standard remote key.
One or more Red Key can be ordered from aVolvo retailer. A total of twelve keys can be pro-grammed and used for the same vehicle. Up toten may be restricted keys, but at least two mustbe standard remote keys.
These restrictions are intended to help reducethe risk of accidents and help the driver feel more
secure when handing over the vehicle to e.g. ayoung driver, parking attendant or workshop. Thesettings for a Red Key cannot be changed by itsuser; a regular remote key is needed to changesettings.

Detachable key blade
The remote key contains a detachable metal keyblade that can be used to activate a number offunctions and preform certain actions.
A Volvo workshop can provide you with the keyblade's unique code, which is recommended incase you need to order a new key blade.
Using the detachable key blade
The detachable key blade can be used to:
manually open the left-side front door if cen-tral locking cannot be activated with theremote key.
emergency lock all doors.
activate/deactivate the rear door mechanicalchild safety locks.
The button-less Key Tag10 does not have adetachable key blade. If needed, use the standardremote key's detachable key blade.
Detaching the key blade
Hold the remote key with the front side(with the Volvo logo) facing up and move thebutton on the key ring section to the right.Slide the front cover slightly upward.
The cover will loosen and can beremoved from the key.
Remove the key blade by pulling it up.

Put the key blade back into its designatedspot in the remote key after use.
Replace the cover by pressing it downuntil it clicks into place.

Locking and unlocking withdetachable key blade
The detachable key blade can be used to unlockthe vehicle from the outside, e.g. if the battery inthe remote key is discharged.
Unlocking
Pull the front left-hand door handle to its endposition to access the lock cylinder.
Put the key in the lock cylinder.
Turn the key clockwise 45 degrees so thatthe key blade is pointing straight rearward.
Turn the key blade back 45 degrees to itsoriginal position. Remove the key from thelock cylinder and release the handle so that itreturns to its original position against thevehicle.
5.Pull the door handle.
> The door will open.
Lock the door in the same way, but turn the key45 degrees counterclockwise in step (3).
Turning off the alarm
NOTE
When the door is unlocked using the detach-able key blade and then opened, the alarmwill be triggered.
Location of the backup key reader in the cup holder.
Turn off the alarm by:
1.Place the remote control key on the key sym-bol in the backup reader in the bottom of thecup holder in the tunnel console.
2. Turn the start knob clockwise and release it.
> The start knob will automatically return toits original position - the alarm signal willstop and the alarm will be turned off.

Locking
The vehicle can also be locked using the remotekey's detachable key blade, e.g. if either the vehi-cle's or remote key's batteries are discharged.
The left-hand front door can be locked by insert-ing the detachable key into the door's lock cylin-der.
This is the only door with a lock cylinder. Theother doors have lock mechanisms in the side ofthe door that must be pushed in using the keyblade. The door will then be locked mechanicallyand cannot be opened from the outside.
The doors can still be opened from inside.
Manual door lock. This is not the child lock.
–Remove the detachable key blade from theremote key. Insert the key blade into theopening for the lock mechanism and pushthe key in as far as possible, about 12 mm(0.5 in).
The door can be opened from both the out-side and the inside.
The door cannot be opened from the outside.To return to position A, open the door usingthe inside door handle.
The doors can also be unlocked by pressing theunlock button on the remote key or the centrallock button in the driver's door.
NOTE
The door's lock controls only lock thatspecific door, not all doors simultane-ously.
A manually locked rear door with an acti-vated manual or electric child safety lockcannot be opened from either the outsideor inside of the vehicle. A rear doorlocked in this way can only be unlockedusing the remote key or the centralunlocking button.
