7. Tap the air filter element lightly to remove
most of the dust and dirt. Blow out the re-
maining dirt with compressed air as shown. If
the air filter element is damaged, replace it.NOTE:_ Check the foam cover for damage and replace it if
necessary. _8. Install the foam cover onto the air filter ele-
ment.
9. Install the air filter element.
10. Install the air filter case cover by fastening the
holders.
11. Install the seat.NOTE:_ The air filter element should be cleaned every 20–
40 hours. It should be cleaned more often if the
ATV is operated in extremely dusty areas. Each
time air filter element maintenance is performed,
check the air inlet to the air filter case for obstruc-
tions. Check the air filter element rubber joint to the
carburetor and manifold fittings for an airtight seal.
Tighten all fittings securely to avoid the possibility
of unfiltered air entering the engine. _

1. Fuel
Check if there is fuel
in the fuel tank.There is fuel.Turn the fuel cock
lever to “OFF”.
Turn the fuel cock
lever to “ON”. Remove the
fuel hose. No fuel.
Clean fuel
cock. Some fuel.Turn the fuel
cock to “RES”.Restart engine.
No fuel.Supply fuel.
2. Compression
Use electric starter to
see if there is
compression.There is compression.
Compression normal.
No compression.Ask a Yamaha dealer to
inspect.
3. Ignition
Remove spark plug and
check electrodes.
WetWipe clean with dry cloth.
DryAttach spark plug cap and
ground to chassis.Use the
electric starter.Spark good.Ignition system
normal.
Spark weak.
Adjust plug gap
or replace plug. No spark.
Ask a Yamaha dealer to
inspect. 4. Battery
Use electric starter.Engine turns over
quickly.Battery good.
Engine turns over
slowly.Check fluid, recharge,
