NOTICEAfter driving your vehicle in water, be sure to
drain the trapped water by removing the check
hose at the bottom of the air filter case, the V-
belt cooling duct check hose, the drive select
lever box check hose and the V-belt case drain
plug. Wash the vehicle in fresh water if it has
been operated in salt water or muddy condi-
tions.

Cleaning the air filter element
There is a check hose at the bottom of the air filter
case and at the bottom of the air duct under the
case. If dust or water collects in a check hose,
empty the hose and clean the air filter element and
air filter case.

6. Wash the sponge material gently but thor-
oughly in parts cleaning solvent. WARNING!
Using gasoline or other flammable sol-
vents to clean the air filter element can
cause a fire or explosion, which could
lead to serious injury.
7. Squeeze the excess solvent out of the
sponge material. NOTICE: Do not twist the
sponge material when squeezing it.
8. Wash the sponge material in warm soapy
water to remove remaining solvent, then
rinse thoroughly with plain warm water.
9. Squeeze excess water out of the sponge ma-
terial. NOTICE: Do not twist the sponge
material when squeezing it.
10. Allow the sponge material to dry thoroughly.
Inspect the sponge material and replace it if

The air filter element should be cleaned every 20–
40 hours. It should be cleaned and lubricated
more often if the vehicle is operated in extremely
dusty areas. Each time air filter element mainte-
nance is performed, check the air inlet to the air fil-
ter case for obstructions. Check the air filter
element rubber joint to the throttle body and mani-
fold fittings for an airtight seal. Tighten all fittings
securely to avoid the possibility of unfiltered air en-
tering the engine.NOTICENever operate the engine with the air filter ele-
ment removed. This will allow unfiltered air to
enter, causing rapid engine wear and possible
engine damage. Additionally, operation with-
out the air filter element will affect the fuel in-
jection system with subsequent poor
performance and possible engine overheating.
