Adjusting the front and rear shock absorber
assemblies (YXR7FB/YXR700FAB)
WARNING
Always adjust the shock absorbers on the left
and right sides to the same setting. Uneven ad-
justment can cause poor handling and loss of
stability, which could lead to an accident.The spring preload can be adjusted to suit the op-
erating conditions. You can reduce preload for a
softer ride, or increase preload if frequent bottom-
ing occurs or when carrying loads.NOTICEFrequent or severe bottoming can cause in-
creased wear or damage to the vehicle.

The rear wheels need to be removed to adjust the
rear shock absorber assemblies. (See pages
8-113–8-117 for wheel removal and installation
procedures.)
Adjust the spring preload as follows:
To increase the spring preload, turn the spring pre-
load adjusting ring in direction a.
To decrease the spring preload, turn the spring
preload adjusting ring in direction b.
Align the appropriate notch in the adjusting ring
with the position indicator on the shock absorber.TIPA special wrench can be obtained at a Yamaha
dealer to make this adjustment.

Adjusting the front shock absorber assem-

WARNING
These shock absorber assemblies contain
highly pressurized nitrogen gas. Read and un-
derstand the following information before han-
dling the shock absorber assemblies.

Do not tamper with or attempt to open the
cylinder assemblies.


Do not subject the shock absorber assem-
blies to an open flame or other high heat
source. This may cause the unit to explode
due to excessive gas pressure.


Do not deform or damage the cylinders in
any way. Cylinder damage will result in
poor damping performance.


Do not dispose of a damaged or worn out
shock absorber assembly yourself. Take
the shock absorber assembly to a Yamaha
dealer for any service.

TIPAlthough the total number of clicks of a damping
force adjusting mechanism may not exactly match
the above specifications due to small differences
in production, the actual number of clicks always
represents the entire adjusting range. To obtain a
precise adjustment, it would be advisable to check
the number of clicks of each damping force adjust-
ing mechanism and to modify the specifications as
necessary.
WARNING


Suspension components become hot dur-
ing operation. Never touch the compres-
sion damping force adjusting screw, the
rebound damping force adjusting screw or
the oil reservoir with your bare hand or
skin until suspension components have
cooled.


Always adjust the shock absorber assem-
blies on the left and right side to the same
setting. Uneven adjustment can cause
poor handling and loss of stability, which
could lead to an accident.

These shock absorber assemblies contain

dommagement du véhicule. Ne pas conduire le véhicule si un problème est détecté. Si le problème ne peut être ré-
solu en suivant les procédés repris dans ce manuel, faire contrôler le véhicule par un concessionnaire Yamaha.Contrôler les points suivants avant de mettre le moteur en marche :

Broussailles et terrains boisés
Lors de la conduite dans des broussailles ou dans un bois,
toujours tenter de repérer les obstacles, telles des bran-
ches, qui pourraient venir heurter le véhicule des deux
côtés et par le dessus du véhicule, et provoquer ainsi un
accident. Veiller également à être à l’affût de broussailles
qui pourraient venir frapper les occupants à l’intérieur du
véhicule. Ne jamais agripper l’arceau de sécurité. Le pas-
sager doit agripper les poignées des deux mains.
Le pot d’échappement et d’autres pièces du moteur
chauffent très fort quand le moteur est en marche et res-
tent chauds bien après l’arrêt du moteur. Afin de réduire
les risques d’incendie pendant la conduite ou après avoir
quitté le véhicule, évitez l’accumulation de broussailles,
d’herbe ou d’autres matériaux sous le véhicule, à proxi-
mité du pot ou du tuyau d’échappement, ou à proximité
d’autres pièces chaudes. S’assurer de l’absence de débris
sous le véhicule après avoir conduit dans des endroits re-
couverts de matériaux combustibles. Ne pas faire tourner
le moteur ni garer le véhicule dans de l’herbe haute sèche
ou toute autre végétation sèche.Árboles o maleza
En lugares donde haya árboles o maleza, vigile a
ambos lados y por encima del vehículo la presencia
de ramas u otros obstáculos con los que pueda coli-
sionar y sufrir un accidente. Vigile la maleza que, al
pasar, puede penetrar en el vehículo y golpearle a
usted o al pasajero. No se sujete nunca al habitácu-
lo/bastidor. El pasajero debe sujetarse siempre a los
asideros con las dos manos.
El silenciador y otras piezas del motor se calientan
mucho durante el funcionamiento y permanecen ca-
lientes después de parar el motor. Para reducir el
riesgo de incendio durante la marcha o después de
estacionar el vehículo, evite que se enganche male-
za u otros materiales en los bajos, cerca del silencia-
dor o el tubo de escape, o cerca de otras piezas ca-
lientes. Examine los bajos del vehículo después de
utilizarlo en lugares donde se hayan podido engan-
char materiales combustibles. No sitúe el vehículo
