HANDLING NOTE
NOTE:
The front fork requires careful attention. So it is
recommended that the front fork be maintained
at the dealers.
CAUTION:
To prevent an accidental explosion of air,
the following instructions should be
observed:

The front fork with a built-in piston rod
has a very sophisticated internal con-
struction and is particularly sensitive to
foreign material.
Use enough care not to allow any foreign
material to come in when the oil is
replaced or when the front fork is disas-
sembled and reassembled.

Before removing the cap bolts or front
forks, be sure to extract the air from the
air chamber completely.

REMOVAL POINTS
Front fork cap bolt
1. Remove:

Front fork cap bolt 1
From the outer tube.
NOTE:
Before removing the front fork from the
machine, loosen the front fork cap bolt.
2. Remove:

Front fork cap bolt 1
NOTE:

Set the rod holder 2 between the locknut 3
and washer 4.

Hold the locknut and remove the front fork
cap bolt.

REMARQUES CONCERNANT LA
MANIPULATION
N.B.:
Les interventions sur la fourche avant sont très déli-
cates. Il est donc préférable de confier tout travail
sur la fourche aux concessionnaires.
ATTENTION:
Afin d’éviter toute explosion accidentelle due à
la pression d’air, suivre les instructions ci-des-
sous:

La construction interne d’une fourche avant à
tige de piston incorporée est très sophistiquée
et est particulièrement sensible à la présence
de corps étrangers.
Veiller à ne pas laisser pénétrer de corps
étrangers lors du changement de l’huile ou du
démontage et remontage de la fourche.

Avant de retirer les bouchons de fourche ou les
bras de fourche, veiller à laisser s’échapper
tout l’air du réservoir d’air.
POINTS DE DEPOSE
Bouchon de fourche
1. Déposer:

Bouchon de fourche 1
Du fourreau.
N.B.:
Avant de démonter la fourche avant de la moto,
desserrer le bouchon de fourche.
2. Déposer:

Bouchon de fourche 1
N.B.:

Placer l’outil de maintien du ressort de fourche 2
entre le contre-écrou 3 et la rondelle 4.

Maintenir le contre-écrou et retirer le bouchon de
fourche.
Clé pour ressort de fourche:

TELESKOPGABEL
HANDHABUNGSHINWEIS
HINWEIS:
Die Teleskopgabel erfordert besondere Auf-
merksamkeit und sollte am besten vom
Yamaha-Händler gewartet werden.
ACHTUNG:
Um einen plötzlichen Druckverlust und
damit verbundene Gefahren zu vermeiden,
unbedingt folgende Hinweise beachten:

Der feine Teleskopgabel-Mechanismus ist
sehr auf Fremdstoffe anfällig.
Deshalb beim Gabelölwechsel sowie bei
der Demontage und Montage darauf ach-
ten, daß keine Fremdstoffe in die Tele-
skopgabel eindringen.

Vor dem Lösen der Verschlußschrauben
unbedingt die Luft aus den Gabelbeinen
vollständig ablassen.
DEMONTAGE-ARBEITEN
Teleskopgabel-Verschlußschraube
1. Entfernen:

Teleskopgabel-Verschlußschraube 1
vom Außenrohr.
HINWEIS:
Die Verschlußschrauben vor der Teleskopga-
bel-Demontage lockern.
2. Entfernen:

Teleskopgabel-Verschlußschraube 1
HINWEIS:

Den Dämpferrohrhalter 2 zwischen Siche-
rungsmutter 3 und Scheibe 4 ansetzen.

Sicherungsmutter festhalten, dabei Tele-
skopgabel-Verschlußschraube entfernen.
Stangenhalter:

1. Remove:

Dust seal 1

Stopper ring 2
Using slotted-head screwdriver.
CAUTION:
Take care not to scratch the inner tube.

Inner tube 1
Oil seal removal steps:

Push in slowly a the inner tube just before
it bottoms out and then pull it back quickly
b.

Repeat this step until the inner tube can
be pulled out from the outer tube.

Use a damper rod holder 3 to lock the damper

Bend/damage → Replace damper rod.

Use #1,000 grit wet sandpaper.

Out of specification → Replace.
Use the dial gauge 1.
NOTE:
The bending value is shown by one half of the
dial gauge reading.
WARNING
Do not attempt to straighten a bent inner
tube as this may dangerously weaken the
tube.

Score marks/wear/damage → Replace.
Fork spring free length:
430 mm (16.9 in)
<Limit>: 425 mm (16.7 in)
Inner tube bending limit:
0.2 mm (0.008 in)

Front fork assembly
1. Wash the all parts in a clean solvent.
2. Install:

Damper rod 1
To inner tube 2.
CAUTION:
To install the damper rod into the inner
tube, hold the inner tube aslant. If the inner
tube is held vertically, the damper rod may
fall into it, damaging the valve inside.5PA50950
3. Install:

Copper washer 1

O-ring 2

Base valve 3
To inner tube 4.
4. Tighten:

Base valve 1
NOTE:
Use a damper rod holder 2 to lock the damper
rod 3.

Install the spring guide with its cut a facing
downward.

NOTE:

Apply the fork oil on the inner tube.

When installing the oil seal, use vinyl seat a
with fork oil applied to protect the oil seal lip.

Install the oil seal with its manufacture’s
marks or number facing the axle holder side.

25. Loosen:

Rebound damping adjuster 1
NOTE:

Loosen the rebound damping adjuster finger
tight.

Record the set position of the adjuster (the
amount of turning out the fully turned in posi-
tion).

Front fork cap bolt 1
Fully tighten the front fork cap bolt onto the
damper rod by hand.
NOTE:
Make sure that there is a clearance a of Zero
~ 1 mm (Zero ~ 0.04 in) between the front fork
cap bolt and locknut 2.

27. Tighten:

Front fork cap bolt (locknut) 1
NOTE:
Hold the locknut 2 and tighten the front fork
cap bolt with specified torque.

28. Install:

Temporarily tighten the cap bolt.

25. Desserrer:

Dispositif de réglage de l’amortissement de
détente 1
N.B.:

Desserrer à la main le dispositif de réglage de
l’amortissement de détente.

Noter le réglage du dispositif de réglage de
l’amortissement de détente (le nombre de tours à
partir de la position vissée à fond).
26. Monter:

Bouchon de fourche 1
Serrer à fond manuellement le bouchon de four-
che sur la tige d’amortisseur.
N.B.:
S’assurer que le jeu a entre le bouchon de fourche
et le contre-écrou 2 correspond à 0 à 1 mm (0 à
0,04 in).
27. Serrer:

Bouchon de fourche (contre-écrou) 1
N.B.:
Maintenir le contre-écrou 2 et serrer le bouchon de
fourche au couple de serrage spécifié.
T R..15 Nm (1,5 m · kg, 11 ft · lb)
28. Monter:

Bouchon de fourche 1
Sur le fourreau.
N.B.:
Serrer provisoirement le bouchon de fourche.
29. Monter:

Guide de protection 1

TELESKOPGABEL
25. Lockern:

Zugstufendämpfung-Einstellschraube 1
HINWEIS:

Zugstufendämpfungs-Einstellschraube bis
zum Anschlag herausdrehen.

Die Einstellung (Anzahl Rasten nach völli-
gem Hineindrehen) aufschreiben.
26. Montieren:

Teleskopgabel-Verschlußschraube 1
Die Teleskopgabel-Verschlußschraube
handfest auf das Dämpferrohr schrauben.
HINWEIS:
Sicherstellen, daß ein Spalt a von Null–1 mm
(0–0,04 in) zwischen der Teleskopgabel-Ver-
schlußschraube und der Sicherungsmutter 2
ist.
27. Festziehen:

Teleskopgabel-Verschlußschraube (Siche-
rungsmutter) 1
HINWEIS:
Verschlußschraube 2 festhalten und Tele-
skopgabel-Verschlußschraube vorschriftsmä-
ßig festziehen.
T R..15 Nm (1,5 m · kg, 11 ft · lb)
28. Montieren:

Teleskopgabel-Verschlußschraube 1
auf das Außenrohr.
HINWEIS:
Verschlußschraube provisorisch festziehen.
29. Montieren:

Schutzführung 1

POINTS DE DEPOSE
Maître-cylindre de frein
1. Déposer:

Demi-palier de maître-cylindre de frein 1

Maître-cylindre de frein 2
ATTENTION:

S’assurer que le maître-cylindre de frein ne
repose pas sur la durit de frein.

Maintenir le couvercle du maître-cylindre de
frein à l’horizontale afin d’éviter toute péné-
tration d’air.
Poignée
1. Déposer:

Poignée 1
N.B.:
Souffler de l’air entre le guidon ou le guide de tube
et la poignée. Retirer ensuite la poignée ainsi libé-
rée.
CONTROLE
Guidon
1. Contrôler:

Guidon 1
Déformation/craquelures/endommagement →
Remplacer.
AVERTISSEMENT
Ne pas tenter de redresser un guidon déformé,
car cela l’affaiblirait dangereusement.
GUIDON
LENKER DEMONTIEREN
DEMONTAGE-ARBEITEN
Hauptbremszylinder
1. Abbauen:

Hauptbremszylinder-Halterung 1

Hauptbremszylinder 2
ACHTUNG:

Den Hauptbremszylinder nicht am Brems-
schlauch hängen lassen.

Den Behälterdeckel waagrecht halten,
damit keine Luft eindringt.
Lenkergriffe
1. Entfernen:

Lenkergriffe 1
HINWEIS:
Die Lenkergriffe mit Druckluft lockern, dann
abziehen.
PRÜFUNG
Lenker
1. Kontrollieren:

Lenker 1
Verbiegung/Risse/Beschädigung → erneu-
ern.
WARNUNG
Niemals versuchen, einen verzogenen Len-
ker zu richten, weil dadurch seine Stabilität
verloren geht.
