Speed warning 1: setting a speed Limit
Warning threshold 1 is set by the button.
Storing the maximum speed
- Drive at the desired maximum speed.

Resetting the maximum speed
- Drive the vehicle at a speed of at least 3 mph (5 km/h)
- Press the knob for more than 2 seconds.
The speed warning symbo l (USA models) /') (Canada models) will
appear briefly in the display when you release the button to indicate
that the maximum speed has been stored successfully .
The maximum speed remains stored until it is changed by pressing the button again briefly or until it is deleted by a lengthy push on the
button. •

To store maximum speed
- Turn off the ignition.
- Briefly press the button in the instrument cluster
=> fig. 22. The odometer and the d igital clock are now illu­
minated .
- Press the button for at least 2 seconds. The currently
stored maximum speed appears in the display
or the
crossed out symbol for warning threshold 2, if no maximum speed was set previously .
- Press the function selector switch in the wiper lever@
=> fig. 23 up or down to change the set value . Values run
up or down in steps of 6.2 mph (10 km/h).
To delete maximum speed
- Turn off the ignition.

brightness increases again, the low beams are turned off again auto­
matically =>& .
In the
AUTO position the low beams are switched off automatically
when the ignition is turned off.
Light Sensor Malfunction*
In the event of a light sensor ma lfunct ion, the driver is notified in the
instrument cluster display:
Automatic headlights/automatic wipers defective
For safety reasons the low beams are turned on permanently with t he
switch in
AUTO*. H owever, you can continue to turn the lights on and
off using the light switch. Have the light sensor checked as soon as
possible at a dealership.
Coming home/leaving home function*
The function is sw itched on when the sw itch is in the AUTO* position
and the function is shown as active in the driver information system.
The
coming home funct ion illuminates the area around the vehicle
when the ign it ion is switched
off and the driver's door is opened. The
length of time the lights rema in on can be set in the menu display
( Illumination > Exterior lights > coming home ).
The leaving home function illuminates the area around the vehicl e
when u nlocking it .
& WARNING
• Never use daytime running lights to see where you are going.
They are not bright enough and will not let you see far enough
ahead for safety, especially at dusk or when it is dark. Always
switch on the low beams at dusk or when it is dark.
• Automatic headlights are only intended to assist the driver .
They do not relieve the driver of his respon sibility to check the
headlights and to turn them on manually according to the current
light and visibility conditions. For example, fog and rain cannot be

detected by the light sensors. So always switch on the headlights
under these weather conditions and when driving
in the dark io.
• Crashes can happen when you cannot see the road ahead and
when you cannot be seen by other motorists.
- Always turn on the headlights so that you can see ahead and
so that others can see your car from the back.
(I) Tips
• With the switch in AUTO front fog lights cannot be turned on in
addition.
• Th e light senso r for headlight control is located in the rear view
mirror mount . Do not apply any stickers to the windshield in this area
to prevent malfunctions or fail ures .
• Some exterior lighting functions can be adjusted in the driver
information system => page 22 ,
• If you remove the ignition from t he ignition lock whi le the head­
lights are still on, a buzzer will sound as long as the driver's door is
open to remind you to turn off the lights .
• Always observe the specific local regulat ions for your area as to
when to use your lights.
• With automatic headlights, the high-beam funct ion is also avail­
able, but with one restr iction:
If you have not switched the high
beams back to low beams during automatic headlig ht operation (for
example, after driving through a tunnel), only the low beams come
on the next time automatic headlights are switched on . To use the
high beams, you first have to pull the high beam lever back and then
push the lever forwa rd again .
• In cool or damp weather, the inside of the headlights, turn signa ls
and ta il lights can fog over due to the temperature difference
between the inside and outside. They will clear shortly after switching
them on. This does not affect the serv ice life of the light ing . _,,

- On the uppe r end of the wiper arm at the corrugat ion ,
squeeze the plastic retainer together on both sides in the
direction of the arrow~ fig . 64.
- Rotate the wiper blade in the direction of the arrow @

The front wiper blades measure lef t side 23 .20 in . ( 590 mm) and
right s ide 18.50 in . (470 mm) in length ,
Clean yo ur wipe r blades regularly with a windshie ld washer so lu tion
to prevent st reaking. If the blades are very dirty, for example with
insec ts, caref ully clean the blades with a spo nge or a sof t brush .
I f the w iper blades begin to streak the windshield, this could be
caused by residue left on the windsh ie ld by automatic car washes.
Fill the windsh ie ld washe r con taine r with a spec ial solu tion ava ilab le
at your authori zed Audi dealer to remove the residue .
Be sure to inspe ct the cond it io n of your w iper blades regu larly . F or
safety reasons, replace your wiper b lades once or twice a year if
necessary. See your authorized Audi dealer for replacement blades.

• Clean your wiper blades regularl y with a wind shield wa sher
solut ion to pre vent streaking. If the wiper blades are very dirty , .,,_

for example with insects, carefully clean the wiper blades with a
sponge or a soft brush.
• For your safety, you should replace the wiper blades once or
twice a year. See your authorized Audi dealer for replacement
blades.
0 Note
• The wiper blades may only be changed=> page 68 in the service
position! Otherwise, you risk damaging the paint on the hood or the
windshield wiper motor.
• You should not move your veh icle or press the windshield wiper
lever when the wiper arms are folded away from the windshield. The
windshield wipers wou ld move back into their original position and
could demage the hood and windshield.
• To help prevent damage to the wiper system, always loosen
blades which are frozen to the windshield before operating wipers.
• To help prevent damage to w iper blades, do not use gasoline,
kerosene, paint thinner, or other solvents on or near the wiper
blades.
• To help prevent damage to the wiper arms or other components,
do not attempt to move the wipers by hand .
(I) Tips
• Commercial hot waxes applied by automatic car washes affect the
cleanability of the glass surface.
• You can also use the service position, for example, if you want to
protect the windshield from icing by using a cover.
• You cannot act ivate the service position when the hood is open.
• Th e front wiper blades are different lengths; the blade on the
driver's side is longer.•

- Fold the windshield wiper arm away from the glass.
- Pull the metal surround of the wiper blade out of the
retainer in the direction of the arrow =:> fig. 66. Hold the
wiper arm firmly by the upper end as you do this.
Attaching the wiper blade
-Adjust the position of the wiper blade in the retainer
~ fig. 66 (see close up).
- Press the wiper blade into the retainer. Hold the wiper arm
firmly by the upper end as you do this.
- Fold the wiper arm back onto the glass.
& WARNING
• To avoid streaks, you should clean the windshield wiper blades
regularly with window cleaner. For heavy soiling, for example,
insects, the wiper blades can also be cleaned with a sponge or a
cloth.

This is especially true for vehicles with low-slung chassis (sports
chassis) and fully loaded vehicles. •
Operate your vehicle economically
and minimize pollution
General
Your personal style of driving will determine the economy
of your vehicle, as well as exhaust and noise levels.
Fuel economy, env ironmental impact, and wear on your eng ine,
brakes and tires largely depend on three factors:
• your personal driving style
• operat ing conditions
• technical lim itations
If you anticipate what you need to do next and drive economically,
you can easily cut your fuel consumpt ion by 10-15 percent. This
sect ion wi ll g ive you some tips on how you can help the environment
and your pocketbook.
[I) Tips
The consumption estimates as published by ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY (EPA) and Transport Canada may not co rre­
spond to your actual consumption on the road, which will vary
depending upon vehicle load and speed, road and weather conditions,
trip length, etc. •
Drive smoothl} and keep a lookout ahead
Vehicles use the most fuel when they are accelerating.
Avoid unnecessary accelerating and braking .
Vehicles use the most fuel when they are accelerating. If you antici­
pate what is go ing to happen next, you will need to brake less and,
thus, accelerate less. Let the vehicle coast whenever possible - for example when you see that the next traffic light is red.
Avoid full throttle
Driving at moderate speeds saves fuel and improves your
mileage.
- Try and keep well below your car's maximum speed.
Accelerating gently reduces fuel consumption, engine wear, and does
not d isturb the env ironment.
Fuel consumption, exhaust emissions and engine noise increase
disproportionately at high speeds. If you drive at approximately three
quarters of top speed, fuel consumption will be reduced by one half.
Never drive faster than the posted speed limit and weather condi ­
tions perm it. •
Reducing unnecessary idling
Even when your car is just idling it burns up fuel.
- Shut the engine off when you are not driving the vehicle .
- Do not warm up the vehicle by letting the engine run at idle .
It makes sense to shut off the engine in traffic jams, when waiting for
trains to pass at railroad crossings, or at traffic lights that have long
wa its on red. Turn ing the eng ine off for just 30-40 seconds saves
more fuel than is burned starting the engine again.
It takes a long time for the engine to warm up fully when it is running
at idle. However, wear and noxious emissions are espec ially high
when the engine is warming up . So you shou ld drive away as soon as .,_

• Snow chain s are available in different sizes. Always make sure
to follow the instructions provi ded by the snow chain manufac­
turer.
• Wh en driving with snow cha in s never drive fa ster than the
speed permitted for your specific snow chains .
• Always observe local regulations.

• Snow chains, which come into direct contact wi th the wheel rim,
can scratch or damage it . The refore, make s ure that the snow chai ns
are sui tably covered. Chec k the pos it ion o f the snow cha ins afte r
driving a few yards and correct if necessary . Follow the instructions
from t he snow chain man ufacturer when doing so .

• If snow chains are installed, the tire p ress ures s houl d not be
sto red in the tire pressure moni to ring system (TPMS) . Otherwise the

Wheel bolts
Wheel bolts must al ways be tight ened to the c orrect
torqu e.
The desig n of whee l bolts is matc he d to the fa ct ory in stalled rims. If
different r ims are fitted, the cor rect wheel bo lts wi th t he r igh t length
and correctly s haped bolt hea ds must be used . Thi s ensures that

wheels are fitted securely and that the brake system funct ions
cor rectly .
I n certa in circumstances, yo u may not use wheel bo lts from a
different vehicle -even if it is the same mo del.
& WARNING
Improperly tightened or maintained wheel bolts can be come
loose causing loss of control, a collision and serious personal
injury.
• Always keep the wheel bolts and the threads in the wheel hubs
clean so the wheel bolt s can turn easily and be properly tightened .
• Never grease or oil the wheel bolts and the th reads in the wheel
hub s. They can become loose while driving if greased or oiled, even
if tightened to the specified torque.
• Only use wheel bolt s that belong to the rim being installed .
• Never use different wheels bolts on your vehicle .
• Always maintain the correct tightening torque for the wheel
bolts to reduce the risk of a wheel loss. If the tightening torque of
the wheel bolts is too low, they can loo sen and come out when the
vehicle is moving . If the tightening torque is too high , the wheel
bolt s and thread s can be damaged and the wheel can become
loose.

T he specified torq ue for the wheel bo lts is 90 ft lb (120 Nm) with a
t o le rance of ± 7,4 ft lb( ± 10 N m). Tor qu e wheel bo lts diagonally.
After cha nging a wheel, the torque must be checked as soon as
pos sible wi th a t orque w rench -prefer ably by an auth oriz e d Aud i
dealer or qualified workshop .•
