On-board computer display
The on-boa rd comp uter display monitors the
d iffe rent memory levels:
- Sho rt-term memory (on-board computer
1)
- Long-term memory (on-board computer 2)
-Efficiency program
The fo llowing information can be displayed in
on-board computer

er.
- Date
- Estimated range based on current fuel leve l
- T rave l time
- Average consumption
- Average speed
- Distance
- Current fuel consumption
On-board computer D (short -te rm
mem ory )
The sho rt-term memory co llects d riving infor­
mation from the time the ignition is switched
on until it is switched off. If you continue driv ­
ing
w ith in two hours after switc hing the igni­
tion off, the new values a re included when cal­
culating the cu rrent trip information .
If stop­
ped for more the two hours, the short term
memory is automatically erased once you be­
g in d riving.
On-board computer fJ (long-term
memory )
Unlike the short-term memory, the long -term
memory is not erased automa tica lly. You can
selec t the time pe riod for evaluat ing t rip in ­
formation yo urself.

The eff ic iency program can help you to use

items us ing fue l are switched on, the equip­
ment that is cu rrently using the most fuel is
d isplayed .
A scale @ also shows the current total con ­
sumpt ion of all other equipment .

Fue l economy messages are displayed when
fuel consumption is increased by certain con ­
d itions .
If you follow these fuel economy mes­
sages, you can reduce your vehicle's cons ump­
tion of fuel. The messages appear automati-

ca lly and are only displayed in the efficiency
program . The fue l economy messages t urn off
automat ica lly after a certain per iod of t ime .
~ To turn an economy message off immed iate­
ly a fter it appears, press any button on the
mu ltifunction steer ing wheel.
(D Tips
- Once yo u have tur ned a fuel economy
message off, it will o nly appea r again af­
ter you turn the ignition on again.
- T he f ue l economy messages are not dis ­
played in every instance, but rather in in ­
tervals over a period of t ime.
On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL )
The Ma lfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) ¢• in
the instr ument cluste r is part of the On-Board
Diagnost ic (O8D
II) system .
T he warning/i ndicator light ill uminates when
the ignit ion is switched on and goes out after
the engine starts and the id le has stabilized .
This indicates that the MIL i s working proper­
ly.
If the light does not go out after the engine
is started, or illuminates while you are driv­
ing, a malfunction may exist in the engi ne sys­
tem.
If t he light illuminates, the ca talytic con­
verter could be damaged .
Continue driving
with reduced power (avo id­
ing sustained high speeds and/or rapid accel­
erations) and have the cond ition corrected .
Contact your authorized Audi dea ler .
I f the light illuminates, the electronic speed
limiter may also be malfunct io ning . For more
informa tion

If the fuel filler cap is closed incorrectly, this
may also cause the MIL to turn on

tion of the remote control key .
.. If you press a button quickly, the LED blinks
once .
.. If you press a button longer (convenience
opening*) , the LED blinks several times .
.. If the LED does not blink, the remote con ­
trol key battery is dead. The message

Replacing the remote control key battery

.. Insert the new battery with the"+" fac ing
up.
.. Press the cover back onto the key until it

We recommend having the battery replaced
by an authorized Audi dealer or qualified re ­
pa ir facility.

Dead batteries must be disposed of using
methods that will not harm the environ­
ment. Do not dispose of them in house­
hold trash .

The rep lacement battery must meet the
same specifications as the origina l battery.
Remote control key synchronization
The remote control key must be synchronized
if the veh icle does not lock and unlock w ith
the remote control.

The headlights only work when the ignition is
switched on. While start ing the engine or
when switching off the ignition, the head­
lights will go off and only the side marker
lights will be on .
If the system is not operating properly, a
warning symbol in the driver information dis ­
play is displayed
¢ page 25.
Turn the switch¢ fig. 29 to the corresponding
position . When the lights are switched on, the
respective symbol turns on.

In veh icles with all-wea ther lights , the front
l igh ts are adj usted automati cally so that yo u
are less like ly to see glare from your own
headlights, for example when driving on a wet
road.
Headlight range control system
T he headlight range adjus ts automatically
when there is a c hange in vehicle load and
during b raking and accelera ting so that the
headlig hts do not ca use g lare for oncom ing
traffic .
Audi adaptive light *
The ad aptive light only functions when the
li gh t switch is in the AU TO posit ion. You can

deactivate adaptive light in the MMI
¢ pag e 44.
When swi tched on, adapt ive light adjusts to
curves depend ing on the vehicle speed and
steering whee l ang le . This provides b etter
lighting through the curve. The system oper­
ates in a speed range from approx imately 6
mph (10 km/h) to 68 mph (110 km/h) .
Static corner ing light * (vehicles with adaptive
light) -the cornering light switch es on auto­
mat ica lly when the steer ing whee l is turned at
a certa in angle at speeds up to approximately
44 mph (70 km/h) and when the tu rn signal is
activated at speeds up to approximately 25
mph (40 km/h) . The area to the s ide of the ve­
h icle is illuminated bette r when turning .
Speed dependent ligh t dis tributi on* -The
speed dependent light distribution adapts the
light in towns and on h ighways o r express­
ways . Inte rsect io ns can also be illuminated on
veh icles w ith a navigation system* .
Highway light function*
(Vehicles wi th adap tive light or LED head­
lights) -T his function adapts the light ing for
h ighway driving based on vehicle speed .
A WARNING
-Automatic headlights* are only intended
to assist the dr iver. They do not relieve
the driver of responsib ility to check the
headlights and to turn them on ma nually
according to the current light and visibili­
ty conditions . For examp le, fog cannot
be detected by the light sensors. So al­
ways switch on the low beam under
these weather conditions and when driv­
ing in the dark
io .
-Crashes can happen when you cannot see
the road a head and when you cannot be
seen by other motorists . Always turn on
the headlights so that you can see ahead
and so that others can see your car from beh ind.
- Please obse rve lega l regulations when
using the light ing systems descr ibed . Ligh

The rear fog lights shou ld only be turned
on in accordance with traffic regu lations,
to prevent glare for traffic behind your ve­
hicle.
{!) Tips
- The light sensor for the automatic head­
lights* is in the rearview mirror mount.
Therefore , do not place any stickers in
this area o n the windshield .
- Some funct ions of the exterior lighting
can be adjusted

- If you turn off the ignition while the ex­
terior lights are on and open the door,
you will hear a warning to ne.
- In some countries, the tail lights do not
switch on when the daytime runn ing
lamps switch on.
- In cool or damp weather, the inside of
the headlights, turn signals and tail
lights can fog over due to the tempera ­
t u re difference between the inside a nd
outside. They w ill clear shortly after
switching them on . This does no t affect
the serv ice life of the lighting.
- In the event of a light senso r malfu nc­
ti on, the dr iver is notified in the instru­
ment cl uste r display ¢
page 25.

on or the reverse gear is selected .
Digital compass
Switching the compass on and off

"To turn the compass on or off, press the but­
ton @unt il the compass in the mirror ap ­
pears or disappears .
The digi tal compass only works when the igni­
tion is turned on. The directions are indicated
with abbreviations :
N (north), NE (northeast),
E (east), SE (southeast), S (south), SW (south­
west),
W (west), NW (no rthwest) .
You must recalibrate the compass if it does not display the correct direction¢

Adjusting the magnetic zone

The magnetic zone mu st be adjusted correctly
for the compass to read accurately .

Calibrating the compass

A WARNING
-- To avoid endangering yourse lf and other
drivers, calibrate the compass in an area
where there is no traffic .

IAUTO I Switching automatic mode on and
off
The automatic mode is turned on using the
IAUTOI button. AUTO mode switches off once
a button in the climate control system is pressed. Automatic mode maintains a con­
stant temperature inside the vehicle . Air tem­
perature, a irflow and air distribution are con­
trolled automat ica lly. When automatic mode
is act ive, p ress ing the
IAUTOI button briefly
activates "eco" mode*
1>. In "eco" mode*, all
settings are lowered slightly to save fue l.
When in "eco" mode*, eco is shown in the dis­
p lay. To exit "eco" mode*, press the
!AUTO I
button again.
I• I • I Setting the temperature
The temperature can be adjusted individually
for the driver and front passenger using the
dials . Temperatures between 60 ° F (+16 °C)
and 84 °F (+28 °C) can be set. Outside of this
range,
Lo or Hi will appear in the climate con­
trol system display. In both settings, the cli­ mate control runs with constantly at the max­
imum cooling or heati ng level. The tempera­
ture is not regu lated .
Synchronization: By pressing the !AU TO I but­
ton for two seconds, the temperature setting
for the driver is transferred to the front pas­
senger's side. This applies a temperature
change to the front passenge r's side.
~ Adjusting the blower
To prevent the windows from fogging over,
the blower should always run at a low speed.
You can adjust the volume of air generated by
the blower to your preference. To have the
blower regulated automatically, press the
IAUTOI button.
Adjusting the air distribution
The air distribution is adjusted with the 121, ~
and IE:! buttons. To have the air distribut ion
regulated automatically, press the
!AU TO I but­
ton .

T he round air vents in the cockpit are adjusta­
ble ¢ page 68.
T o keep the windows from fogging in damp
weathe r, we recommend open ing the side air
vents and tilting them to the side

Foot vents are located under the front seats
and adjustable vents on the end of the center
console to heat the rear of the vehicle.
I "" MAX ! Switching the defroster on and off
The windshield and side windows are defrost­
ed or cleared of condensation as quickly as
possible. The maximum amount of air flows
main ly from the vents below the windshield.
Recircu lation mode switches off. The tempera­
ture is controlled automatically . In the ~ set­
ting, the
! A/C l cooling mode switches on auto­
matically, depending on the outside air tem­
perature.
The
! AUTO I button switches the defroster off.

off
The recircu lation mode can be turned on man­
ually or automatically* .
- Switching manual rec irculat ion mode on and
off: Press the
1 - 1 button. The LED light up
when switched on .
- Automatic* recircu lation mode: The recircu­
lation mode must be activated in the MMI.
Select:

The air quality sensor that is de ­
signed for diesel and gasoline exhaust auto­
matically switches the recirculation mode
on or off depending on the level of pollu­
tants in the outside air.
In recirculation mode, the air inside the vehi-
cle is circulated and filtered. This prevents the unfiltered air outside the veh icle from enter-
i ng the veh icle interior . We recommend
switching recirculation mode on when driving

engine is switched off - there is a risk of
damaging the engine. For this reason, let
the engine run for at idle for approximate­
ly two minutes before shutting it off .
(D Tips
-After the engine has been switched off,
the radiator fan can continue to run for up to 10 minutes - even with the ignition
switched off.
It can also switch on again
after some time if the coolant tempera ­
ture rises as a result of heat bui ldup or if
the engine compartment is heated by
sunlight and the engine is hot.
Starting the engine if there is a
malfunction
Appl ies to vehicles: with convenience key
It may not be possible to start the engine un­
der certain circumstances , for example if the
battery in the vehicle key is drained, if inter ­
ference is affected the key or if there is a sys­
tem malfunction.

Driver messages
Turn off ignition before leaving car. Battery
is discharging
This message appears and a warning tone
sounds if you open the driver's door when the
ignition is switched on. Turn off the ignition
so that the battery will not discharge.
Pressing start/stop button again will switch
off engine!
This message appears when you press the
!STAR T ENG INE ST OP!* button while driving
¢ page 74, Emergency off function.
Engine start system malfunction. Please
contact Service
The eng ine automatic start system has a mal­
funct ion. Drive to an authorized Audi dealer or
qualified repair facility immediately to have
the malfunction corrected. To start the en­
gine, press and hold the
I STAR T ENG INE ST OP I button.
DI Key not recognized. See owner 's manual
This message appears if there is no conven­
ience key inside the vehicle or if the system
does not recognize the key . The convenience
key may not be recogn ized, for example, if it is
cove red by an object that
disrupts the s ignal
(such as a briefcase), o r if the key battery is
weak . Electronic devices such as cell phones
can a lso interfere with the signal.
