-When you switch the ignition off or open
the driver's door, the date and t ime are dis­
played for approximately 30 seconds.
- You can also turn on the disp lay with the
10.01 button when the ignition is switched
off

Tachometer
The tachometer displays the engine speed in rev­
olutions per minute (RP/11).
The beginning of the red zone in the tachometer
indicates the maximum permitted engine speed
for all gears once the engine has been broken in
and when it is warm. You should select the "D/
S" (Drive) selector lever position or take your foot
off the accelerator pedal before reaching this
area .
It is best to avoid high engine speeds, even when
driving in tiptronic mode

Vehicles with plug-in hybrid drive* have a power
meter instead of a tachometer. A digital tachom­
eter can be displayed in the driver information
system
q page 29.

Upshifting early helps you to save fuel and re­
duce operating noise.
Instruments and indicator lights

The distance driven is shown in miles "mi" or kilo­
meters "km" . The measurement units (miles
''mi"
I kilometers "km") can be changed in the
MMI. For more information, refer to your MMI
operating instructions .
Odometer/trip odometer
@-The odometer shows the total distance that
the vehicle has been driven .
®-The trip odometer shows the distance that
the vehicle has been driven since the last time
the tr ip odometer was reset . It can be used to
measure short distances. The last digit indicates
1/ 10 m iles or 100 meter increments.
The trip odometer can be reset to zero by press­ ing the
10.01 button c::;, page 10, fig. 3.
Malfunction indicator
If there is a malfunction in the instrument clus­
ter,
DEF will appear in the trip odometer display.
Have the malfunction corrected as soon as possi­
ble.
(D Tips
- When you switch off the ignition or open
the driver's door, the odometer is displayed
for approximately 30 seconds.
- You can also turn on the display with the
j o.o j button when the ignition is switched
off

Outside temperature display
The instrument cluster display shows the outside
temperature . At temperatures below 41 °F ..,_

acceleration and heavy engine loads during
approximately the first 15 minutes when
the engine is cold is recommended. The
amount of time until the engine is warm de­
pends on the outside temperature. Check
the engine oil temperature* if necessary
¢ page 32.
-Auxiliary headlights and other accessories in
front of the cooling-air intake impair the
cooling effect of the coolant . This increases
the risk of the engine overheating during
high outside temperatures and heavy en­
gine load.
- The front spoiler also he lps to distr ibute
cooling air correct ly wh ile driving. If the
spo iler is damaged, the cooling effect will
be impaired and the risk of the engine over ­
heating will increase. See an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Fa­
cility for assistance.
@ Tips
Diesel engines: due to the high efficiency of
these engines, the engine may not always
reach operating temperature in cold outside
temperatures. This is normal and not a cause
for concern.

If the central indicator light © turns on, check
the additional information in the instrument
cluster display @ and @.
In addition to the indicator lights in the display,
there are addit ional ind icators in the tachometer .
They blink or turn on to indicate functions or mal­
functions . Messages @ may also appear briefly
with some indicator lights. A warning tone
sounds at the same time.
If there is more than one malfunction, the indica ­
tor lights will turn on one after the other for a short time.
The ind icator lights and messages in the display
can be covered by other d isplays . In cases where
the indicator light @ is hidden, the central ind i­
cator light © will remain visib le until the mal­
function is corrected.

Overview
Some indicator lights turn on briefly as a funct ion
check when you sw itch the ignition on. These sys­
tems are marked with a./ in the following tab les.
If one of these ind icator lights does not turn on,
there is a malfunction in that system .
Your vehicle has either a monochrome display or
a multicolored disp lay, depending on vehicle
equipment. In a monochrome display, the indica­
tor lights @only appear in white ¢

Lap timer and engine oil
temperature indicator
Introduction
Applies to vehicles: with lap timer (S models)
The engine oil temperature is only shown in the
lap timer display.
Lap timer
You can record and evaluate lap times with the
lap timer in the display
i=:,page 32, fig. 16. Th e
time is measured in minutes, seconds and
1/10
seconds . With lap times longer than 60 minutes,
the hour is also shown and the display of
1/10 seconds is removed.
The time measurement on an individua l lap ends
after
99 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds. A
new lap starts automatically after that .
The measurement ends after a maximum of
30
laps. You can then evaluated the lap times or
start a new time measurement .
Engine oil temperature indicator
I f the engine o il temperature is below
140 °F
(60 °C), the 'l=:1: symbol followed by three hy­
phens"- --" and the °C un it is shown .
The engine has reached its operating tempera­
ture when the engine oil temperature is between
176 °f (80 °C) and 248 °f (120 °C) under nor­
mal d riving conditions. The engine oil tempera­
ture may be higher if there is heavy eng ine load
and high temperatures outside. This is not a
cause for concern as long as the .¢
page 20 or
Ill i=:,page 24 indicator lights in the display do
not blink.
A WARNING
Your focus should always be on driving your
vehicle safely . As the driver, you have com­
plete responsibility for safety in traffic . Only
use the functions such as the lap timer in such
a way that you always maintain complete con­
trol over your vehicle in all traffic s ituations.

In vehicles with a light/ra in sensor*, the wipers
turn o n when it is ra ining, whe n the vehicle is s ta ­
tiona ry and the leve r is tapped in the ® position,
o r once the vehicle speed exceeds app roximate ly
2 mph (4 km/h) . The higher the sensit ivity of the
rain sensor is set (switch @to the r ight), the ear­
li er the windsh ie ld wipers react to moisture on
the windshie ld.

tion longer, the wipers switch from slow wiping
to fast wiping.

temperat ure is above app rox ima tely 39 ° F (4 °C) .
You can swi tch th is func tion off by mov ing the
l ever to posit ion ® within 10 seconds o f the af ­
te rwipe. The afterwipe function is reactivated the
next t ime yo u sw itch the ignition on.
Cl eaning the headlig hts*. The headlight was he r
system * operates only when the low beam head ­
li ghts are on .
If you move the lever in position @,
the headlights will be cleaned in fixed interva ls .
Applies to vehicles wi th rear window w iper:
The rear wiper automa tica lly switches on when
the reverse gea r is engaged and the front wi nd­
shield wipers are on and in ope ra t ion.

Digital compass

The digital compass only works when the ign ition
is turned on. The direct ions are indicated with ab­
breviations : N (north), NE (northeast), E (east),
SE (southeast), S (south), SW (southwest), W
(west), NW (northwest).
You must recalibrate the compass if it does not
display the correct direction

To prevent inaccu rate compass readings, do
not bring any remote controls , e lectr ical devi­
ces or metallic objects near the mirror.
Lights and V ision
Adjusting the magnetic zone
Applies to vehicles: with digita l compass
The magnetic zone must be adjusted correctly
for the compass to read accurately.

Climate control system controls

The functions are controlled using three dials and
buttons . The LED in a button will light up when
the function is switched on.

Manual climate control system*
For a comfortable temperature, we recommend :
- in warmer times of the year, set the tempera-
ture so that it is only a few degrees below the
outside temperature .
- set the blower at a moderate speed
- don't direct the air flow directly on the passen- gers
IA/C l Switching the cooling mode* on and off
The cooling mode only functions with the blower
turned on . The air is not cooled and humidity is
not removed when cooling mode is switched off.
This can cause fog on the windows. The cooling
mode switches off automatically when there are
cold outside temperatures.
~ Adjusting the blower
To prevent the windows from fogging over, the b lower should a lways run at a low speed. When
the w indows are fogged, we recommend using a
higher blower speed and tu rning the knob to~-

Adjusting air distribution and air vents
The air distribution is adjusted with the dials~.

In the~ setting, the windshield and side w in­
dows are defrosted or cleared of condensation as
quickly as poss ible . The recirculation mode
switches off, but can be activated again by press­

T he round a ir vents in the cockpit are adjustable

To keep the windows from fogging in damp
weather, we recommend opening the side air
vents and tilt ing them to the side ~

Adjusting the air vents .
Foot vents are located under the front seats to
heat the rear of the vehicle .
laol Switching recirculation mode on and off
In recirculation mode, the air inside the vehicle is
circulated and filtered. This prevents the unf il-
tered air outside the vehicle from entering the

vehicle interior. We recommend switching recir­
culation mode on when driving through a tunne l

Recirculation mode is switched off in the defrost

Automatic climate control system controls

The dial adjusts the temperature and the blower
speed . Press the buttons to turn the functions on
or off. The LED in a button wi ll light up when the
function is switched on.

Automatic climate control system
We recommend pressing the IAUTOI button and
se tti ng the temperature to 72 °F (22 °C). The au­
tomatic climate control system automatically
maintains a temperature once it has been set.
The air temperature coming from the vents, the
b lower speed, and the a ir distribution are also
automatically adjusted. In all heating mode func­
tions except
defrost, the blower only switches to
a higher speed once the eng ine coolant has
reached a ce rtain temperature .

A WARNING
You should not use the recirculation mode for
an extended period since no fresh ai r is drawn
i n . With the air-conditioning* switched off,
the w indows can fog up, whic h increases the
risk of an accident.
IA/C l Switching the cooling mode on and off
The cooling system is turned on and off with the
IAJC I button. The air is not coo led and humidity is
not removed when cooling mode is switched off .
This can cause fog on the windows. The cooling
mode switches off automatically when there are
cold outside temperatures.
I AUTO I Switching automatic mode on and off
The automatic mode is turned on using the
IAUTOI button. AUTO mode switches off once a
button in the climate control system is pressed.
Automatic mode maintains a constant tempera­
ture inside the vehicle. Air temperature, a irflow
and air distribution are controlled automatically.
When automatic mode is active, pressing the
IAUTOI button b rief ly act ivates the "Eco"
mode*
1> . I n "Ec o" mode*, all settings are low-
e red slightly to save fu el. When in "Eco" mode*,
Ill-

Eco is shown in the display. To exit "Eco" mode*,
press the
I AUTOI button again.
I• I • I Setting the temperature
The temperature can be adjusted individually for
the driver and front passenger using the dials.
Temperatures between 60 °F ( +16 °C) and 84 °F
(+28 °C) can be set. If outside of this range, LO or
HI will appear in the climate control system dis­
p lay. In both settings, the climate control runs
with constantly at the maximum cooling or heat­ ing level. The temperature is not regulated.
Synchronization: by pressing the IAUTOI button
for two seconds, the temperature setting for the
driver's side is transferred to the front passeng­
er's side. This applies a temperature change to
the front passenger's side.
~ Adjusting the blower
To prevent the windows from fogging over, the b lower should a lways run at a low speed. You can
adjust the volume of air generated by the blower

Adjusting the air vents .
Foot vents are located under the front seats and
adjustable vents on the end of the center console
to heat the rear of the vehicle.
~ Switching the defroster on and off
The winds hield and side windows are defrosted
or cleared of condensation as quickly as possible.
The maximum amount of air flows mainly from

ty sensor that is designed for diesel and gaso­
line exha ust automatically switches the recircu­
lation mode on or off depending on the level of
pollutants in the outside air .
In rec ircu lation mode, the air inside the vehicle is
circulated and filtered. This prevents the unfi l­
tered air outside the vehicl e from enter ing the
vehicle interior. We recommend switching recir­
cu lation mode on when driving through a twnnel
or when sitting in traffic¢ .&..
T he
1-1 button, IAUTOI or the [ii button switches
recirculation mode off.
T he system switches to recirculation mode when
driv ing in r everse when the engine is cold.
_&. WARNING
You should not use the recirculation mode for
an extended period since no fresh air is drawn
in. With the air-conditioning switched off, the
windows can fog up, which increases the risk
of an acc ident.
