-Depending on vehicle equipment, the in ­
str ument ill umination (need les and gauges)
may tu rn on when the lights are off and the
i gnition is sw itched on. The illumination for
the gauges reduces automat ically and even­
tua lly turns off as brightness outside in­
creases. This function reminds the driver to
turn the low beams on at the app ropr iate
time.
-You can select the units used for tempe ra­
ture, speed and othe r measureme nts in t he
Infotainment
system¢ page 241.
Coolant temperature indicator
The coolant temperatu re display (D ¢ page 10,
fig. 4 or ¢ page 10, fig . 3 only funct ions when
the ignition is switched on . To prevent engine
damage, please observe the following notes
about the temperature ranges.
Cold range
If onl y the L EDs at the bottom o f th e ga uge turn
on, the engine has not reached operating tem­ pe rature yet. Avoid high engine speeds, full ac ­
cele rat ing and heavy engine loads.
Normal range
The engine h as reached its oper ating temper a­
ture once the LEDs up to the center o f the ga uge
turn on. If
the . indicator lig ht in the instru-
~ ment cluster display turns on, the coolant tern-
~ perature is too high ¢ page 28 .

@ Note
-Auxi liary headlights and other accessories in
front of the coo ling-air intake impai r the
cooling effect of the coolant. This increases
the risk of the engine overheating dur ing
hig h outside temperatures and heavy en­
gine load .
-The front spoiler a lso helps to distribute
cooling air correctly while driving. If the
spoiler is damaged, the coo ling effect will
be impaired and the r is k of the eng ine ove r­
heating wi ll increase. See an autho rized
Audi dea ler or author ized Audi Service Fa ­
ci lity for assis tan ce .
-Vehicles without a coolant temperature dis­
play: to promote a long engine service li fe,
avoidin g high engine speeds, full accelera­
tion and heavy engine loads during approx i­
mately the first 15 minutes when the en ­
gine is cold is recommended. The amount of
time that the eng ine is cold depends on the
outside temperature .

Cockpit over view
The brake booster remains active for a br ief peri­
od of time after switching off the ignition. To se­
cure the vehicle from ro lling away, move these­
lector lever in the P position or set the parking
brake.
A WARNING
- Read and follow the warnings in
¢ page 316, Working in the engine com­
partment
before open ing the hood and
check ing the b rake fl uid level.
- If the bra ke system indicator light does not
tu rn off o r it t urns on while driv ing, the
bra ke fluid level in the reservoir is too low ,
and this inc reases the risk of an acc iden t.
Stop the vehicle and do not continue dr iv ­
ing. See an authorized Audi dealer or au­
tho rized Audi Service Facility for ass istance .
- If the bra ke sys tem indicator light turns on
together with the ABS and ESC indicator
lights, the ABS/ESC regulating function may
be malfunctioning. Functions that stabilize
the vehicle are no longer ava ilable. This
could cause the rear of the ve hicle to
swerve, which increases the risk that the ve­ hicle will slide . Do not continue driving . See

set.
I f the

dicator light blinks, the braking fo rc e is not b uild­
ing up enoug h or not b uilding up at all. Select the
P selector lever position to help secure the vehi­
cle. Make sure the indicator lig ht is off before you
s tart dr iv ing .
There is a mal function in the park ing brake. Dr ive
to an author ized Audi dealer or author ized Audi
Serv ice Facility immediately to have the malfunc­
tion corrected .

Warm and cold
Warm and cold Climate control system
Description
The climate control system circulates, warms or
cools, and removes humid ity from the air in the
veh icle inter ior .
It is the most effective when the
windows and panorama glass roof* or power top*
are closed. If there is a build-up of heat inside
the vehicle, ventilation can help to speed up the
cooling process.
Pollutant filter
The pollutant filter removes pollutants such as
dust and pollen from the a ir.
Key recognition
Various settings are stored and assigned to the
remote control key be ing used .
These settings are different when the power top* is open or closed .
Presetting
Several functions can be preset in the Infotain­
ment system.
Select in the Infotainment system:

A WARNING
Poor visibility can lead to accidents .
- For safer driving, keep all windows free of
ice, snow and fog.
- Become familiar with the correct use and
function of the climate control system as
quickly as possible, especially with the de­
frosting and defogging functions.
- When the temperature is below freezing, only use the windshield washer system after

the windshield has been warmed by the cli­
mate control system. The washer fluid could
freeze on the windshield and impair visibili­
ty .
Cl) Note
-If you suspect that the climate control sys­
tem is damaged, switch the system off to
prevent further damage and have it checked
by an authorized Audi dealer or authorized
Audi Service Facility.
- Repairs to the Audi climate control system
require special technical knowledge and
special tools . See an authorized Aud i dealer
or authorized Aud i Service Facility .
@ For the sake of the environment
-To save fuel, turn off the climate control
system cooling mode by press ing the A/C
button. This will also reduce emissions . The
climate control system is off when the LED
in the button turns off.

(D Tips
- T o prevent interference with the heating
and cooling output and to prevent the win­
dows from fogging over, the a ir intake in
front of the windshie ld must be free of ice,
snow or leaves.
- Condensation from the cooling system* can
drip and form a pudd le of water under the
vehicle. This is norma l and does not mean
there is a leak.
- The energy management system may tem­
porarily switch off certain functions, such as
the seat heating* or rear window defogger.
These systems are available again as soon
as the energy supply has been restored.

The funct io ns can be switched on and off by
pressing the buttons or adjusted by turning the
k n ob. The LED i n a butto n w ill light up wh en the
f u nction is switched o n.
Automatic climate control system
The automat ic climate control system automati­
cally maintains a temperatu re once it has been
set . In all heat ing mode funct ions e xcep t
defrost,
the blower on ly switches to a higher speed once
the eng ine coolan t has reached a cer ta in temper­
ature.
AUTO
Switching automatic mode or "eco "
mode* on and off
Automatic mode ma inta ins a constant tempera­
ture ins ide the veh icle. Air tempe rature, airflow
and a ir dist ribution are cont rolled automat ically.
AUTO mode switches off once a b utton in t he cli ­
mate control system is pressed .
When a utomat ic mode is a ct ive, pressing the
AUTO b utton briefly activa tes the "E co"
mode*ll.
In "eco" mode'<-, all sett ings are lowered slight ly
to save fue l. When in "eco" mode*,

in the disp lay. To ex it "Eco" mode*, press the
AUTO button aga in.
A/C
cooling mode
T he cooling mode on ly functions with the blower
turned on. You can turn the cooling system on or
off by pressing the A/C button. The air is not
cooled and humidity is not removed when cooling
mode is switched off. This can cause fog on the
windows . The cooling mode sw itches off auto­
matically when there are cold outside tempera­
tu res.
e / e Temperature
The temperature for the driver's and front pas­
senger's side can be ad justed separately with the
dials
(D I@ . Tempe ra tures between 60 °F
(+16 °() and 84 °F (+ 28 °() ca n be set. If o utside
of this range,
LO o r HI w ill appe ar in the climate
contro l system display. In bot h set tings, the cli ­
mate contro l runs constant ly a t the maxim um
cooling or heating level. The temperature is not
regu lated.

driver is transferred to the front passenger's
side . This applies a t emperature change to the
front passenger's side .
8/r Blower
Using the regulator 8£?, you can manually adjust
the volume of air generated by the blower to your
p reference . The blower shou ld always run at a
low setting to prevent the windows from fogging
and to ensure a continuous exchange of air inside
the vehicle . To have the blower regulated auto­
mat ically , press the AUTO button.
~/ :,0/ ~ Air distribution
The air distribution can adjusted with the but­
tons. To have the air distribution regulated auto­ mat ically, press the AUTO button.
The round air vents in the cockpit are adjustable
qpage 73.
To keep the front s ide windows from fogging up
in damp weathe r, we recommend opening the
side air vents and tilting them to the side .
Foot vents are located under the front seats and
adjustable vents on the end of the center console
to heat the rear of the vehicle .
::!_ Defrosting
The windsh ield and s ide windows are defrosted
or cleared of condensation as qu ickly as possible .
The max imum amount of air flows ma inly from
the vents below the windshield. Recirculation
mode switches off. The temperature shou ld be
set at +72°F (22°() o r higher. The temperature is
controlled automatica lly. In the
;Ix setting, the
A/C cooling mode switches on automatically , d e­
pending on the outside air temperature.
The AUTO button switches the defroster off.
cE) Recirculation mode
The recirculation mode can be turned on manua l­
ly or automatically*.
- Switching manual recirculation mode on and
off: Press
the~ button.

- Automatic * reci rculation mode: auto recircula ­
tion needs to be activated in the Infotainment
system. Select in the Infotainment system:

Air conditioning > Auto recirculation
The air
quality sensor that is designed for diesel and
gasoline exhaust automatically sw itches the re­
circulation mode on or off depending on the
level of pollutants in the outside air.
In rec irculat ion mode, the air inside the vehicle is
c ir culated and filtered. This prevents the unfil­
tered air outs ide the veh icle from entering the
vehicle inte rior. Switching rec irculation mode on
whe n driving through a tunnel or when sitting in
traffic is recommended

Pressing the~ button, AUTO or the ;fx button
switches recircula tion mode off.
T he system switches to recirculation mode when
driv ing in reverse when the engine is cold .
SP. Rear window defogger
If the rear window defogger is activated when
the igni tion is switched on, the battery manage­
ment determines based on the battery charge if
i t is possible to turn on . Otherwise, the rear w in ­
dow defogger functions with the engine running
and switches off automatically after approxi­
mately 10 -20 minutes, depending on the out­
side temperature .
To prevent the rear window defogger from
switching off automat ica lly, press and hold the
!fP. button for more than two seconds. This re­
mains stored up to approximate ly 15 minutes af­
te r turning off the ignition.
J Seat heating*
Pressing the J button switches the seat heat ing
on at the highest setting (level 3) . The LEDs indi­
cate the temperat ure level. To reduce the tem­
perature , press the button again. T o switc h the
seat heating off, press the button repeatedly un­
ti l the LED turns off .
After approximately 10 minutes, the seat heating
a utomat ically switches from level 3 to level 2.

Vehicle transport
Applies to: vehicles with plug-in hybr id drive
The following contains information you should
know about transporting your vehicle.
The MQB-A high-voltage lithium-ion battery sys­
tem equipped in your vehicle is composed of SA­
NYO 12 UF 261 591 high -voltage batteries and
has passed test 38.3 in accordance with the UN
Tests and Criteria handbook. The vehicle may be
transported with the high-voltage battery instal­
led as conventional class 9 hazardous materials
without additional official consent for air and sea
shipment (current law !CAO-TI and IMDG-Code
01.01.2012).
Jump starting
Applies to: ve hicles with plug -in hybrid drive
The term "vehicle battery" refers to the 12 Volt
battery in your vehicle.

The vehicle is equipped with one vehicle battery
and one high-voltage battery .
If the vehicle battery is drained, it can be charged
with a charger or you can jump start the vehicle
using another vehicle's battery in the same way
as a conventional vehicle.

device or jump start cable to the positive termi­

You must not give a jump start with your vehi­
cle. This could cause significant damage to
the electrical system in your vehicle.

that are separate from each other:
@ : expansion tank for gasoline eng ine and elec­
tric motor.
@: expansion tank for the high-voltage area.
The expansion tank @ must not be opened

• Always check the coolant level in both coolant
expansion tanks @and @ using the outer
markings .
• When you fill coolant i n the expansion tank @,

• Do not drive any farther if the coolant level in
the expansion tank @ is low. Contact an au­
thorized Audi dealer or authorized Aud i Service
Facility immediately

Trailer towing
Driving with a trailer
General information
Your Audi was designed primarily for passenger
transportation.
If you plan to tow a trailer, please remember that
the additional load will affect durability, econo­
my and performance.
Trailer towing not on ly places more stress on the
ve hicle, it also ca lls for more concentration from
the dr iver.
F or this reason, always follow the operating and
driving instructions provided and use common
sense.
Technical requirements
Trailer hitch
Use a weight-carrying hitch conforming to the
gross tra iler weight. The hitch must be suitab le
for your veh icle and tra iler and must be mounted
securely on the vehicle's chassis at a technically
sound
locat ion . Use on ly a trailer hitch with a re­
movable ba ll mount . Always che ck with the t rail ­
er hitch man ufac tur er to make s ure t hat you are
using the co rrect hi tc h.
Do not use a bumper hitch.
The hitch must be installed in such a way that it
does not interfere with the impact -absorbing
bumper system. No mod ificat ions should be
made to the vehicle exhaust and b rake systems .

W hen you are not tow ing a tra iler, remove the

Trailer brakes
If your trailer is equipped with a brak ing system,
check to be su re that it conforms to all regula­
tions .

The t rai ler hydraulic bra ke system must not be
directly connected to the vehicle's hydraulic
bra ke system.
Safety chains
A lways use s afety chains between you r vehi cle
and t he tra ile r.
Trailer lights
Traile r lights must meet all regula tions . B e s ure
to check w ith your Aud i dea le r fo r cor rect wir ing,
switches and relays .
Mirrors
If you are unable to see t he traffic behind you us­
i ng t he regular outs ide mir rors, then yo u
must in­
stall extended mirro rs . It is impo rtant that you
always have clear vision to the rear.
&, WARNING
Afte r remov ing the tr ailer hi tch, do not s to re
i t i n yo ur vehicle. In case o f su d den braking,
the hitch could fly fo rwa rd and injure you or
your passengers .
Operating instructions
Maximum trailer weight
A tra iler f or yo ur vehicle is lim ite d to a typical
class 1 or class 2 trailer.
Trailer load distribution
Be sure the load in the t rai le r i s he ld se curely in
pla ce to p revent i t from shi fting forward, bac k­
ward or si deways.
Never allow a passenger to ride in a trailer c> &.

Engine cooling system
Towing a tra iler makes the engine work harder. It
is important that the cooling system's perform ­
ance is up to the additional load . Make sure tha t
the coo ling system has enoug h flu id.
Tire pressure
When towing a trailer, inf late the tires of your
vehicle to the tire pressure listed under "Full load" on the label

-Before changing your oil, first make sure
you know where yo u can properly dispose of
the used oil.
- Always dispose of used engine oil prope rly .
Do not dump it on garden soil, wooded
areas, into open streams or down sewage
drains.
- Recycle used engine oil by taking it to a used engine oil collection facility in your area, or
contact a serv ice stat ion.
Cooling system
Coolant
The engine coo ling system is filled with a mixture
of purified water and coolant additive at the fac­
tory. This coo lant must not be not changed.
The coolant leve l is monitored through
the . in­
d icator
light ¢ page 28. However, we do recom­
mend occasionally checking the coo lant level
manually.
I f you m ust add coolant, use a m ixture of water
and coolant addit ive. Mixing the coolant additive
with distilled water is recommended.
Coolant additive
The coolant addi tive is made of anti-freezing and

vehicle matches the percentage appropriate
for the climate. This is especially important
when driving in colder climates.

available in an emergency, do not add any

store the correct mix tu re ratio with the

When the engine is warm it can be slightly above the upper marking.
Adding coolant
Plug-in hybrid drive* : Your vehicle has two cool­
ant expansion tanks that are separate from each
other. The smaller of the two expansion tanks
must not be opened

~ Let the engine cool down.
~ Place a cloth over the coolant expansion tank
cap and unscrew the cap counterclockwise

Add more coolant if necessary.
~ Close the cap securely.
Coolant loss usually indicates there is a leak . Im­
mediately drive your vehicle to an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility
and have the cooling system inspected.
If the
cooling system is not leaking, a loss can come
from the coolant boiling through overheating
and being pushed out of the cooling system.
.,&. WARNING
The cooling system is pressurized and can be­
come very hot. To reduce the risk of burns
from hot coolant:
- Do not open the coolant expansion tank cap
when the engine is hot. This increases the
risk of burns.
- Stop the engine and allow it to cool.
- Protect your face, hands and arms from es-
caping coolant and steam by covering the
coolant tank cap with a large, thick cloth.
- Turn the coolant tank cap counterclockwise
slowly and keep light pressure on the cap.
- To reduce the risk of burns, do not allow any
antifreeze or coolant to drip onto the ex­
haust system or hot engine components.

The ethylene glycol in engine coolant can
catch fire under certain circumstances.
- The coolant additive and the coolant can be
dangerous to your health. For this reason,
keep the coolant in the original container
and away from children . There is a risk of
poisoning.
- When working in the engine compartment,
remember that the radiator fan can switch
on even if the ignition is switched off, which
increases the risk of injury.
(D Note
Do not add coolant if the expansion tank is
empty . Air could enter the cooling system and
damage the engine . If this is the case, do not
continue driving . See an authorized Audi deal­
er or authorized Audi Service Facility for assis­
tance.

· Radiator fan
The radiator fan switches on automatically by it­
self
An auxiliary electric radiator fan switches on and
off depending on coolant temperature and other
vehicle operating conditions.
After you switch the engine off, the auxiliary fan
can continue running for up to 10 minutes
