It contains important information,
tips, suggestions and warn ings for using your ve­
h icle.
Keep this manual in your vehicle at all times . This
is especially important if you loan your vehicle to
others or sell it.
This owner's manua l describes the

specified for this mode l at the time of
printing. Individual equipment options described
may on ly be available at a later date or may only
be offered in certain countries .

Do not assume the roads are free of ice based
on the outside temperature display. Be aware
that there may be ice on roads even when the
outs ide temperature is around 41 °F (+5 °C)
and that ice can increase the risk of accidents.

right thumbwheel up or down during voice
guidance.
A WARNING
The route calc ulated by the navigation system
is a recommendation for reaching your desti­
nation. Obey traffic lights, stopping restric­
tions, one-way streets, lane change restr ic­
tions, etc.

On Board Diagnostic
System (OBD)
Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)
The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) ¢4 in the
in strument cluster is part of the On Board Diag­
n ostic System (080 II).
The indicator light turns on when the ign ition is
switched on and turns off once the engine is
started and is running in idle at a stab le speed.
This indicates that the MIL is functioning correct­
l y .
Cockpit overview
If the light does not turn off after starting the
engine
or turns on while driving, this may indi­
cate there is a malfunction in the engine.
If the
indicator turns on, the cata lytic converter may be
damaged .
Drive
with reduced engine performance (avoid
high speeds for extended periods of time and/or
fast acceleration) and have the malfunction cor­
rected . See an authorized Audi dealer or author­
ized Audi Service Facility.
The electronic speed limiter may be fau lty if the
indicator light turns on. For additional informa­
tion, see
Q page 23 .
The MIL may also turn on if the fuel filler cap is
not closed correctly

On-Board Diagnostics

On-Boa rd Diagnostics monitors the components
of your emission control system . Each monitored
component in your engine system has been as­
signed a code. In case of a malfunction, the com­ ponent will be identified and the fault stored as a
code in the control module memory .
The MIL light may also illuminate if there is a
leak in the on-board fuel vapor recovery system.
If the light illuminates after a refuelling, stop
the vehicle and make sure the fuel filler cap is properly closed
¢ page 314.
In order to make an accurate diagnosis, the stor­
ed data can only be displayed using special diag­
nostic equipment (generic scan tool for 080) .
In order to connect the special diagnostic equip­
ment, push the plug into the Data Link
Connector .,.

Your author ized Audi dealer or a qualified service
s ta tion can interpret the code and perform the
necessary repair.
A WARNING
Do not use the diagnostic connector for per­
sonal use. Incorrect usage can cause malfunc­
tions, which can increase the risk of a colli­
sion!
Indicator Lights
Description
The indica to r lights in the inst rument cluste r
blink or t urn on. They indicate funct ions or ma l­
functions .
-
Messages may appea r wi th some indi cato r lights.
A wa rning signal w ill so und at the same time.
The indicator ligh ts and messages in the instru ­
ment cluster display can be covered by other dis­
p lays. Yo u can have these displayed again in the
drive r information system by opening the second
Veh icle tab (messages) using the
l <1 ~ I button on
the multifunction steering wheel. If there are
several malfunctions, you can d isplay them one
at a time us ing the thumbwhee l.
Some ind icator lights in the display can display in
several colors .

may vibrate .

The brake booster remains active for a br ief peri­
od of time after switching off the ignition. To se­
cure the vehicle from ro lling away, move these­
lector lever in the P position or set the parking
brake.
A WARNING
- Read and follow the warnings in
¢ page 316, Working in the engine com­
partment
before open ing the hood and
check ing the b rake fl uid level.
- If the bra ke system indicator light does not
tu rn off o r it t urns on while driv ing, the
bra ke fluid level in the reservoir is too low ,
and this inc reases the risk of an acc iden t.
Stop the vehicle and do not continue dr iv ­
ing. See an authorized Audi dealer or au­
tho rized Audi Service Facility for ass istance .
- If the bra ke sys tem indicator light turns on
together with the ABS and ESC indicator
lights, the ABS/ESC regulating function may
be malfunctioning. Functions that stabilize
the vehicle are no longer ava ilable. This
could cause the rear of the ve hicle to
swerve, which increases the risk that the ve­ hicle will slide . Do not continue driving . See
an aut ho rize d Aud i dea le r o r authori zed
Audi Service Facility for assistance .
PARK!<®)/ ~ Electromechanical parking
brake

indicator light t urns on, the park ing brake was
set.
I f the

dicator light blinks, the braking fo rc e is not b uild­
ing up enoug h or not b uilding up at all. Select the
P selector lever position to help secure the vehi­
cle. Make sure the indicator lig ht is off before you
s tart dr iv ing .
There is a mal function in the park ing brake. Dr ive
to an author ized Audi dealer or author ized Audi
Serv ice Facility immediately to have the malfunc­
tion corrected .

A WARNING 1=
- Never open the hood if you can see or hear
steam or coolant escap ing from the engine
compartment. This increases the risk of
burns . Wa it until you no longer see or hea r
steam o r coolant escap ing .
- The e ngine compartment in any veh icle can
be a dangerous area. Stop the eng ine and
allow it to cool before wo rking in the engine
c ompar tment. A lways fo llow the informa­
t ion found in
r=:> page 316, Working in the
engine comportment .

gine damage .

• Switch off engine! Oil pre ssure too low
Stop the eng ine and do not continue driving.
Check the engine oil leve l r=:> page 321.
-If the engine oil level is too low, add engine o il
r=:> page 319. Only cont inue dr iv ing o nce the in­
dicato r light turn s off.
- If the engine oil level is correct and the indica­
tor light st ill tur ns on, turn the eng ine off and
do not con tinue driving. See an a utho rized Aud i
dealer or author ized A udi Service Facility for as ­
sistance .

The oil pressure w arning is not an o il level in­
dicator. Always check the oil level regu la rly.

There is a malfunction in the alternator or the ve­
h icle electrical system .
