is moved back, it will stop in its orig inal posi­
tion. The operation will stop if the button is
pressed again .

-Always make sure the front seats are up­
r ight and securely locked in place.

- Power entry assistance also works when the
ign it ion is switched offll or when the igni­
tion key is removed , so that rear seat pas­
senge rs can still move to the front of the ve­
hicle in an emergency s ituation. To reduce
the r isk of injury, childre n should never be
left unattended in the vehi cle for this rea­
son.
Front center armrest
Applies to vehicles with a front center armrest
There is a storage compartment under the arm­
rest.

Driving
When not being used, a roof rack should be re­
moved to decrease the wind resistance of the ve­
hicle. This will save you approximately 12% fuel
at speeds from 62
-75 mph (100 -120 km/h).
Save energy
The engine drives the generator, which generates
electricity; the fuel consumption also increases
with the demand for electricity. Therefore, switch
electrical equipment
off when you no longer
need it. Examples of equipment that uses a lot of
energy are air blowers at a high setting, the rear
window defogger and seat heating* .
(D Note
-Do not leave engine idling unattended after
starting. If warning lights should come on
to indicate improper operation, they would
go unheeded. Extended idling also produces
heat, which could result in overheating or
other damage to the vehicle or other prop­ erty.
- Have your vehicle maintained properly and
in accordance with the service recommenda­
tions in your Warranty
& Maintenance book­
let . Lack of proper maintenance as well as
improper use of the vehicle will impair the
function of the emission control system and
could lead to damage.
- Do not alter or remove any component of
the Emission Control System unless ap­
proved by the manufacturer.
- Do not alter or remove any device, such as
heat shields, switches, ignition wires,
valves, which are designed to protect your
vehicle's Emission Control System and other
important vehicle components.
@ Tips
The consumpt ion estimates as published by
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY
(EPA) and Transport Canada may not corre­
spond to your actual consumption on the
road, which will vary depending upon vehicle
load and speed, road and weather conditions,
trip length, etc.

Adjusting the steering wheel position
The steering wheel position is fully adjustable up
and down and forward and back.

A WARNING
Incorrect use of the steering wheel adjust­
ment and an incorrect seating position can
cause serious injuries.
- Only adjust the steering column when the veh icle is stationary so that you do not lose
control of the vehicle.

that there is at least 10 inches

tance between your chest and the steering

- If your physical characteristics prevent you
from sitting at least 10 inches

more away from the steering wheel, see if
an authorized Audi dealer or authorized
Audi Service Facility can provide adapters that will help.
- If your face is level with the steering wheel,
the airbag does not provide as much protec­
tion during a collision. Always make sure
that the steering wheel is level with your
chest.

-Always hold the steering whee l with your
hands in the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
tions to reduce the risk of injury if the airbag
deploys.
- Never hold the steer ing wheel in the 12
o'clock position or with both hands on the
rim or the center of the steer ing wheel.
Holding the steering wheel incorrectly s ig­
nificantly increases the risk of in jury to the
hands, arms and head if t he a irbag dep loys.

Switching the ignition on /off

Equipment that uses a lot of e lectricity is switch­
ed off temporarily when you start the engine .
If the engi ne does not start immediately , stop
the starting p rocedure by turning the ign it ion key
to posit ion @ and repeat after 30 seconds .

- Never remove the ignition key from the ig ni­
t ion lock while the vehicle is moving. Other ­
wise the steer ing lock will engage and yo u

increased the risk of an acc ident.

tems, critica l driving situations can be detected
by
pre sense ba sic and meas ures for preventa ­
t ive occ upant protection are can be initiated.
- The
pre sense front uses the data from the ra ­
dar sensors and calc ulates the probab ility of an
acc ident
c::> page 124. An impending collision
with vehicles ca n be detected within the limits
of the system . In this case, the system warns
the driver v isually, acoustically and with a je rk
on the brakes if necessary. If needed, it ca n ini ­
tiate a part ia l o r full dece le ra tion to reduce the
co llision speed o r to avo id t he coll is io n unde r
ce rtain c ircumstances. In conjunc tion wi th pre
sense basic, the front safety belts are a lso re ­
versib ly tensioned w hen needed . The pre sense
front is a lso active when adaptive cruise con­
trol* is sw itched off.
A WARNING

- Certain pre sense f unctions switch off when

- The pre sense functions may not be avai la­

- Switch the pre sense off when you are not
us ing public streets or whe n loadi ng the ve­
h icle onto a veh icle carrier, train, ship or

vent a n un des ired intervent ion from the pre
sense sys te m .
Audi pre sense basic

The pre sense basic funct io ns are activ ated a t a
speed of approximate ly 20 mph (30 km/h) or
h igher .
The fo llow ing funct io ns can be t rigge red unde r
cert ain cond itions withi n the limi ts of the sys ­
tem :
Ass istance systems
- Tensioning o f the safety belts (for examp le,
during heavy braking) : the front safety belts
have revers ib le be lt tens ione rs . If a collision
does not occu r, the safety belts loosen slig htly
and are ready to tr igger aga in.
- Initiat ing the clos ing of the w indows and the
panorama g lass roof* (for examp le when un­
der- or oversteering).
Audi drive select*: the trigger times are adjusted depending on the mode selected .
Audi pre sense front
Applies to : vehicles wi th Audi pre sense fro nt

Description
Wi thin the lim its of t he sys tem and depending
on the sit uat ion and spee d, p re sense front can
warn you about impending collisions with sta ­
t iona ry, stopped, and moving vehicles and ini ­
tiate app ropr iate braking measu res.

Early warning /acute warning
The system can provide visual and audible warn­
ings when dangerous situations are detected.
The
early warning may occur if:
- a vehicle driving ahead brakes st rong ly,

record, in certain crash or near crash -like situa ­
tions, such as an airbag deployment or hitting a
road obstacle, data that will assist in understand ­
ing how a vehicle's systems performed. The EDR
is designed to record data re lated to vehicle dy­
namics and safety systems for a short period of
time, typically 30 seconds or less . The EDR in this
veh icle is designed to record such data as:
- How various systems in your vehicle were oper­
ating;
- Whether or not the driver and passenger safety
belts were buckled/fastened;
- How far (if at all) the driver was depressing the accelerator and/or brake pedal; and,
- How fast the vehicle was traveling.
These data can help provide a better understand­
ing of the circumstances in which crashes and in ­
juries occur. NOTE: EDR data are recorded by your
vehicle only if a non-trivia l crash situation occurs;
no data are recorded by the EDR under normal
driving conditions and no personal data (e.g.,
name, gender, age, and crash location) are re­
corded . H owever, other parties, such as law en­
forcement, could combine the EDR data with the
type of personally identifying data routinely ac­
quired during a crash invest igation .
To read data recorded by an EDR, special equip­
ment is required, and access to the vehicle or the
E DR is needed. In addition to the vehicle manu­
facturer, other parties, such as law enforcement,
that have the specia l equipment, can read the in­
formation if they have access to the vehicle or the
EDR.
Aud i w ill only access the EDR and/or sim ilar data
or give it to others with the consent of the owner
or lessee or in accordance with applicable law.
States vary in their access/disclosure restrictions
for EDR data, but typically such data can be ac­
cessed/disclosed in the following c ircumstances :
- when the vehicle owner (or lessee if the vehicle
has been leased) agrees; or
- upon the officia l request by the police; or
- up on the order of a court of law or a govern-
ment agency; or
- for the defense of a lawsu it through the judicial
dis covery process.
Intelligent Technology
-Audi may also use the data, once retrieved from
the vehicle under permissib le circumstances, in
an anonymous format.
- for research about vehicle operation and safety
performance or provide the data to a third par­
ty for such research purposes.
Vehicle control modules
Your vehicle is also equipp ed w ith a number of
electronic control modules for various vehicle
systems, such as engine management, emission
control, airbags, and safety belts.
Th ese elect ronic control modules record data
during norma l vehicle operation that may be
needed by trained technicians for diagnostic and
repair purposes. The recording capabi lity of these
modules is limited to data (no sound is record­
ed) . Only a small amount of data is actually re­
corded over a very limited period of time, or stor­
ed when a system fault is detected by a control
module . Some of the data stored may relate to
vehicle speed, direction, or braking, as well as re­
straint system use and performance in the event
of a crash. Stored data can also only be read and
down loaded with specia l equipment that is di­
rectly connected to the vehicle .

Your vehicle may be equipped w ith Audi con­
nect. Your use of certain Audi connect fea­
tures requires wire less services that are pro­
vided by a third party wireless telecommuni­
cations provider . For details regarding how in­
formation obtained through Aud i connect is
collected, processed, transmitted, used, and
shared, please see your contract with the
wireless telecommunications provider.

is switched off, you can switch on the data con ­
nect ion for the use of all Audi connect Infota in­

Wi-Fi hotspot
A ppl ies to: ve hicles with Wi-F i hotspot
You can use the MMI as a Wi-Fi hotspot to con­
nect up to eight Wi-Fi devices to the Internet.
While driving, restricted use of unsecured, light,
small wireless devi ces is only possible from the
rear of the vehicle.
Requirement: the ign ition must be switched on.

Wi-Fi
The MM I Wi -Fi hotspot is deactivated at the fac ­
tory. Switch the Wi-Fi hotspot to

and your Wi -Fi device.
- On : the MMI Wi -Fi hotspot is active and visib le
to ot her devices. You can connect your Wi -Fi
device to the MMI and use the Internet connec­
t ion if necessary.
Audi conn ect (Inf otainment )
-Off : the M MI Wi-Fi hotspot is deactivated. An
Internet connection for Wi -Fi devices is not
possible .
A WARNING

- To reduce the r isk of an accident, use the
Aud i connect Infotainment services with a
W i- F i hotspot only in the rear seat when the
ve hicle is in mot io n, or only when the vehi­
cle is stat ionary .
- It is o nly safe to use tablets, laptops, mo ­
b ile dev ices and other sim ilar devices when
the vehicle is stat ionary because, li ke all
loose objects, they co uld b e thrown around
t he inside o f th e ve hicl e in a c rash and ca use
serio us inj uries . Store these types of devices
secure ly while driving .
- D o not use any wireless dev ices on the front
seats within range of the airbags whi le driv ­

-As the driver, do not allow usage of the Wi ­
F i hotspot to distract yo u from driving, as
this cou ld increase the r isk of an accident.

- Under some conditions, ce rtain mobile devi ­
ces and operating systems may automati ­
cally switch from your vehicle's Wi -Fi hot­
spot to the device's mobi le data connection.
In that event, standa rd text and data usage
rates would apply wh ile the device's mobile

Wi-Fi audio player

Using the Wi -Fi audio player media source on the
MMI, you can connect and operate your Wi-Fi-ca­
pable media player (such as a smartphone) to
wirelessly play music from your media player
li­
brary. The media player is connected through the
vehicle's Wi-Fi hotspot. A UPnP Server opp or an
integrated UPnPIDLNA server on your media
player is required to access your media player
li­
brary.
Requirement: the Wi-Fi function on your media
player must be switched on. The
Audi MMI con­
nect
app or a UPnP server app must be installed
on your media player .
Or: you must be using a
media player with an integrated UPnP/DLNA
server.
-Connecting a media player: press the I MEDIA !
button. Press the left control button until the

-If necessary, select and confirm Wi-Fi turned
off> Turn on Wi-Fi
to activate Wi-Fi in the
MMI. Select
Wi-Fi settings, if necessary. Select
the same settings on the wireless media player
that are used for the Wi-Fi hotspot.
-Starting the Wi-Fi audio player: start the Audi
MMI connect
app or a UPnP server app, or set
media permissions on your media player.
Operating the media player: the media player is
operated through the MMI.
-Press the left control button repeatedly until
the
Folders menu item appears. Select and con­
firm
Folders.
-Playing music from the media player: select
and confirm

A WARNING
-
-As the driver, do not allow usage of the Wi­
Fi hotspot to distract you from driving, as
this could increase the risk of an accident.
-It is only safe to use tablets, laptops, mo­
bile devices and other similar devices when
the vehicle is stationary because, like all
loose objects, they could be thrown around
the inside of the vehicle in a crash and cause
serious injuries. Store these types of devices
securely while driving.
-Do not use any wireless devices on the front
seats within range of the airbags while driv­
ing. Also read and follow the warnings in
c::;, page 2 73, Front airbags.
