The 12-volt socket can be used for elec trical
accessories. The power input must not exceed
120 watts.
There is an addi tional 12-vo lt socket in the
cente r console .
Before you purchase any accessories, always
r ead and fo llow the information in
~ page 282, Additional accessories and parts
replacement .

The socket and the electrica l accessories
connected to it operate only when the igni­
tion is sw itched on. Incorrect usage can
lead to serious injuries or burns. For this
reason, children should never be left unat-

tended in the veh icle because this increas­
es the risk of in jury.

-Never connect e quipment that generates
electrical current, such as a solar pane l
or battery charger, to the 12-vo lt socket.

cal system.
- To avoid damaging the socket, only use
plugs t hat fit properly.

When the engine is off and accessories are
still pl ugged in and are on, the vehicle bat­
tery can still be drained.
Storage
General overview
.&_ WARNING
-
- Always remove objects from the instru-
ment panel. Any items not put away
could slide around ins ide the veh icle
while driving or when accele rat ing or
when applying the brakes or when dr iv­
i n g arou nd a corne r.
- When you are dr iving make su re that
anyth ing you may have pla ced in the cen­
ter conso le or other sto rage locations
can not fall ou t in to t he footwe lls. In c ase
of sudden bra king you would not be able
to brake, dep ress the clutch o r acce ler ­
ate.
- Any pieces o f clothing that you have
hung up m ust not interfere with the driv­
er 's view. The coat hooks are des igned
only for lightweight cloth ing. Never hang
a ny clothing with hard, pointed or heavy
objects in the pockets on the coat hooks .
During s udden braking or in an accident -
especia lly if the a irbag is d eployed -
these objec ts co uld inj ure any passen­
gers inside the ve hicl e.

Warm and cold Climate controls
Description
The climate control system warms, cools and
adds humidity to the air in the vehicle interior.
It is the most effect ive when the windows and
sunroof are closed . If there is a build-up of
heat inside the vehicle, ventilation can help to
speed up the cooling process.
I n all heating mode functions except
defrost,
the blower on ly switches to a higher speed
once the engine coolant has reached a certain
temperature.
Condensat ion from the cooling system can
drip and form a puddle of water under the ve­
hicle. This is normal and does not mean there
is a leak.
Pollutant filter
The pollutant filter removes pollutants s uch
as dust and pollen from the air.
The air pollutants filter must be changed at
the intervals spec ified in you r Warranty
&
Maintenance booklet, so that the air condi­
tioner can properly work.
If you drive your vehicle in an area with h igh
a ir po llution, the fi lter may need to be
changed more frequent ly than specified in
your Aud i Wa rranty
& Ma intenance booklet. If
in doubt, ask your authorized Audi Service Ad ­
visor for advice .
Key coded settings
The climate control settings are automat ically
stored and assigned to the remote control key
that is in use.
A WARNING
Reduced visibility is dangerous and can
cause accidents.
-
- For safe driving it is very important that
all windows be free of ice, snow and con­
densation.
- Comp letely familiarize yourself with the
proper use and function of the heating
and ventilation system and especially how to defog and defrost the windows.
- Never use the windshield wiper/washer
system in freez ing weather unt il you
have warmed the windshield first, using
the heating and ventilation system. The
washer solution may freeze on the wind­ shie ld and reduce visib ility.
(D Note
- If you suspect that the air conditioner
has been damaged, switch the system
off to avoid further damage and have it
inspected by a qualified dealership.
- Repairs to the Audi air conditioner re­
quire special technical know ledge and
special tools. Contact an authorized Aud i
dea ler fo r assistance.
@ For the sake of the environment
By reducing the amount of fuel you use,
you also reduce the amount of pollutants
emitted into the air.
(D Tips
-Keep the air intake s lots (in fro nt of the
w indshield) free from ice, snow and de ­
bris in order to maintain the proper func­
tion of the climate control system.
- T he energy management system may
switch the seat heating* or rear window
defroster off temporarily . These systems
are available again as soon as the energy
balance has been restored.
- Air escapes through vents under the rear
window. When placing items of clothing
on the luggage compartment cover, en­
sure that the openings are not covered.

Automatic mode ma inta ins a constant tem­
perature inside the vehicle. Air temperature,
airflow and air distribution are controlled au­
tomatically.
Adjusting the temperature
Temperatures between 60 °F (+16 °C) and
84 °F ( +28 °C) can be set . Outside of this
range,
LO or HI will appea r in the climate con­
trol system disp lay. At both of these settings,
the climate control system runs continuously
at maximum cooling or heating power . There
is no temperature regu lation.
~ Adjusting the airflow
You can adjust the a irflow manually to su it
your needs . To have the airflow regulated au­
tomatically , press the
!AUTO ! button.
~ Adjusting the air distribution
You can manually select the ve nts where the
a ir will flow . T o have the air d istribution regu­
la ted automatically, press the
IAUTOI button .
~ Adjusting seat heating*
Pressing the button switches the seat heat ing
on at the highest sett ing (level 3) . The LEDs
indicate the tempe rature leve l. To reduce the
temperature, press the button again . To
switch the seat heating off , press the button
repeatedly until the LED turns off .
After 10 minutes , the seat heating automati­
cally switches from level 3 to leve l 2.
I@ FR ON T I Switch the defroster on/off
The windshield and s ide windows are defrost­
ed or cleared of condensation as quickly as
possible . The max imum amount of air flows
mainly from the vents below the windshield.
Recirculation mode switches off . Th e tempera­
ture is controlled automatically. T

!AUTO I button switches the defroster off.
l !iiil R EAR I Switching rear window heater
on/off
T he rea r window heater only operates when
the engine is running . It switches off auto­
matically after a few m inutes, depending on
the outside temperature .
T o prevent the rea r window heater from
switching off automatically, press and hold
the
l oo REAR I button for more than 2 seconds .
This remains stored until the ignition is
switched off.
Air vents
You can open and close the center and rear air
vents using the thumbwhee ls . T he levers ad ­
just the direction of the airflow from the
vents.
In veh icles with a 3-zone deluxe automatic cli­
mate control system*, you can adjust the air
temperature in the rear by turning the thumb­
whee l toward the red side to make it warmer
or toward the b lue s ide to make it cooler.
A WARNING
-- Do not use the recirculation for extended
periods of time . The windows could fog
up since no fresh air can enter the vehi­
cle . If the windows fog up, press the air
recir culation butto n aga in imm ediately
to switch off the air recirculation func­
tion or se lect defrost.
- I ndivid uals w ith reduced sensitivity to
pa in or temperature could develop burns
when using the seat heating function . To
red uce the risk of injury, these individu­
als shou ld not use seat heating.
(D Note
To avoid damage to the heating elements
in the seats, do not kneel on the seats or
place heavy loads on a small area of the
seat.

@ Tips
The seat heati ng only works when the seat
detects bo dy weight on it. P lacing objects
on the seat cou ld create enough we ight to
sw itch seat heat ing on.
Setup
The basic climate control settings can be ad­
justed in the radio or MM!*.
~ Select: I CAR I f u nction button > A/C control
button. Or
~ Se lect: I CARI f u nct ion button > Car sys -
tems *
control button > AC.
Automatic recirculation*
When switched on, automatic recirculation
contro ls the recirculation mode automatica lly.
If the windows fog up, press the
1 ~ FRONTI
button.
Synchronization*
When synchronization is sw itched on, the
same settings are applie d to both the drive r
a n d front passenger, except for the seat heat­
ing/ventilation *. Synchronization switches off
when you ad just the settings on the front pas­
senger's side.
You ca n also switc h synchronizat io n on by
press ing and ho lding the knob on the driver 's
side.
Supplementary heater
The supplementa ry heater warms the inter io r
of vehicles with flexib le fue l engines more
q uic kly. The supp lementary heater is control­
l ed automatically in the
Auto setting.

Manually adjustable steering wheel
The steering wheel position is fully adjustable
up and down and forward and bock .

u ntil it locks.
There must be at least 10 inches (25 cm) be­ tween your chest and the center of the steer­
i ng wheel. If you cannot sit more than 10 in­
ches (25 cm) from the steering whee l, see if
adaptive equipment is available to help you reach the pedals and increase the distance
from the steering whee l.

A WARNING
Improper use of steering wheel adjust­
ment and improper seating position can
cause serious personal injury.
- Adjust the steer ing whee l co lumn on ly
when the veh icle is not moving to pre­
vent loss of veh icle control.
- Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel
so that there is a minimum of 10 inches
(25 cm) between your chest and the
steering wheel

yo u cannot maintain this min imum dis- tance, the airbag system cannot protect
you proper ly.
- If physical limitations prevent you from
sitting 10 inches (25 cm) or more from
the steering wheel, check with your au­
thorized Audi dealer to see if adaptive equ ipment is ava ilable .
- If the steer ing wheel is aligned with your
face, the supplementa l driver's a irbag
cannot provide as much protection in an
accident . Always make sure that the
steer ing wheel is aligned with your
chest.
- Always hold the steering wheel w ith your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
tions to reduce the risk of persona l injury
if the driver's airbag dep loys .
- Never hold the stee ring wheel at the 12
o'clock position or with your hands inside
the steeri ng wheel rim or on the steering
wheel hub . Holding the steering wheel
the wrong way can cause serious injuries
to the hands, arms and head if the driv­
er's airbag deploys.
Ignition lock
Starting engine with the key

The ignition is switched on and the engine
started with the ignition key .

Sw itching the i gnition on /off
If you wou ld like to switch the ignition on
without sta rting the engine, follow t hese
steps :
~ Insert the key i nto the igni tion lock .
~ Press the key b riefly w ithout press ing the
clutch peda l (for manual transmissions) or
the brake peda l (for automatic transmis­
s ions) .
~ To sw itch the ignition off, press the key
again .
When starting the engine, ma jor e lectr ica l
loads are switched off temporarily .
You can only remove the key with the ignition
switched off.
I f the engine sho uld not star t immediately,
the starting process is automatically stopped
after a short time. Repeat starting procedure .
A WARNING
-Never allow the engine to run in confined
spaces -danger of asphyxiation.
- Never remove the ign ition key from the
ignition look while the vehicle is moving.
Otherw ise, the steering lock could sud­
denly engage and you would not be able
to steer the vehicle.
- Always take the key with you whenever
you leave your vehicle . Otherwise, the
engine could be star ted or e lectr ica l
equipment such as the power w indows
cou ld be operated. This ca n lead to seri­
o us inj ury.
- Never leave c hildren or persons requ iring
assistan ce unattended in the vehicle. The
doors c an be lo cked using the remote
t ransmit ter, preventing people from es­
caping from the vehicle on their own in
the event of an emergency. Depend ing
on the time of year, people inside the ve-

cause the oil press ure must first bu ild up
in the hydraulic valve ad justers. This is
normal and not a cause for concern.
- If you leave the veh icle with the ignition
switched on, the ign it ion w ill switch off
afte r a certa in per iod of t ime . Please
note that ele ctrical equ ipment such as
exterior ligh ts w ill sw itch off as well
when that happens .

Starting the vehicle with the emergency
key
Applies to vehicles: with ig ni tion lock
You can use the emergency key as an ignition
key in on emergency.

the adapter . Make sure that the Audi rings
are facing up.
.. Press the emergency key in the adapter
down until it latches audibly.
.. Insert the adapter with the emergency key
forward into the ignition switch. The engine
can now be started as usual.
Stopping the engine

.. Bring the vehicle to a full stop.
.. Automatic transmission: Move the selector
lever to the P or N position .
.. Press on the ignition key. The engine is
turned off.
.. You can now
remove the key.
Steering lock
The steering locks when you remove the igni­
tion key. The locked steering helps prevent
ve­
hicle theft.
Emergency off
If it is necessary in unusual circumstances, the
engine can be switched off while the vehicle is
moving. The engine will be switched off if you
press on the key for an extended period.
A WARNING ~
- Never turn off the engine before the ve­
hicle has come to a complete stop. The
full function of the brake booster and the power steering is not guaranteed. You
must use more force to turn or brake if
necessary. Because you cannot steer and
brake as you usually would, this could lead to crashes and serious injuries.
- For safety reasons, you should always
park your vehicle with the selector lever
in P. Otherwise, the vehicle could inad­
vertently roll away.
- The radiator fan can continue to run for
up to 10 minutes
even after you have
turned off the engine and removed the
ignition key. The radiator fan can also
turn on again if the engine coolant heats
up because of intense sunlight or heat
build-up in the engine compartment.
- Always take the key with you whenever
you leave your vehicle. Otherwise, the
engine could be started or electrical
equipment such as the power windows
could be operated. This can lead to seri­
ous injury.
- Never leave children or persons requiring
assistance unattended in the vehicle . The
doors can be locked using the remote
transmitter, preventing people from es­ caping from the vehicle on their own in
the event of an emergency. Depending
on the time of year, people inside the
ve­
hicle can be exposed to very high or very
low temperatures .

If the engine has been under heavy load
for an extended period, heat builds up in
the engine compartment after the engine
is switched off- there is a risk of damaging
the engine . Allow the engine to run at idle
for about two minutes before switching it
off.

and open the dr iver's door. The locked stee r­

Emergency off
If necessary, the eng ine ca n be sw itched off
with the selector leve r in the R or D/S pos i­
tions. To do so, step on the brake pedal and
p ress and hold the
I START ENGINE STOP I but­
ton vehicle speed must be less th an 6 mph
(10 km/h).

- Never turn off the eng ine before the ve­
hicle has come to a complete stop . The

This message appears and a warning tone
sounds if you open the d river's door when the
ignition is sw itched on.
No key id entified
This message appears when the
I S TART ENGI NE STOPI button is pressed if
there is no master key ins ide the veh icle or if
the system does not recognize it . Fo r exam­
ple, the master key cannot be recognized if it
is covered by an object (e.g. al uminum b rief
case) which
screens the radio s ignal. Elec tron­
ic dev ices such as cell phones can also inter­
fere with the radio s ignal.
Pres s brak e pedal to start engine
This message appears if you do not press the
brake pedal to start the eng ine in a veh icle
with an automat ic transm iss ion.
Press clutch pedal to sta rt engine
T his message ap pears if you do not press the
clutch pedal to start the engine in a vehicle
with a manual transmission. .,.

Shift to N or P to start engine
This message appea rs whe n attempti ng to
sta rt the engine if the se le ctor lever for the
a u tomatic t ransmission is not in the P or N
p osition. The engine can on ly be sta rted w ith
the selector in these posit ions .
Is the key in the vehicle?
This m essage appears if the maste r key is re­
moved from t he vehi cle w ith the eng ine run­
ni ng.
If the mas ter key is no longe r in the ve ­
hicl e, yo u ca n not swi tch on the igni tion a fter
s t opping the eng ine a nd you also canno t st art
the eng ine again. Mo reover, yo u cannot lock
the vehicle from the outside with the key .
Shift to P otherwise vehicle can roll away.
Doors do not lo ck if lever is not in P.

parking brake
Operation
The ele ctromechani cal parking brake replaces
the hand br ake.

Your vehicle is equipped with an e lectrome ­
c hanical p arking bra ke. The pa rking bra ke is
d esigned to p revent the ve hicle from rolling
u nin ten tionally and repla ces the hand b ra ke.
In add ition to the normal fu nctions of a tradi ­
t ional ha nd b rake, the electromechanical
par king b rake provides vario us conv enience
and sa fe ty f unct ion s.
When starting from rest
- The integral start ing ass ist helps you when
